“Great, authentic street food”
Reviewed February 5, 2014

Bale Well has an interesting concept; you sit down and the staff just bring out a set 'menu' of food, give you a quick run through of how to roll it all up and then off you go. Even though I'm not a huge fan of prawns, the food really is very good and incredibly great value. You can stuff yourself full of good food and beer for very little.

“Delicious and great value”
Reviewed February 1, 2014 via mobile

I usually don't go to proper restaurants for Vietnamese food because it's cheaper and just as good on the street. This place is my exception. It's great, you just sit down and they bring out plates and plates of food as well as show you how to make/roll your food with the rice paper. It's great fun and well worth it.

“Wow wow wow, amazing local flavor!”
Reviewed February 1, 2014 via mobile

Seek this out and eat here, a must visit in Hoi An. No menu, just stroll up, sit down and prepare to eat. One of the lovely women who works there will come over to serve the first course. Rice paper wraps with greens, pork skewers and spring rolls. All rolled up and dipped in incredibly savory spicy peanut sauce. Later comes the typically Hoi An rice pancake, also to be rolled in rice paper filled with greens. Helpfully, our server made both of our first rolls for us so we could see what to do! The delicious and filling meal was capped off with a little dessert. I'm partial to chocolate and adored the chocolate mouse, but my husband loved his mango mouse as well. This set menu was under $6 USD equiv per person. Reasonable beer prices too...under $1 equiv for the local Bierre Larue.

TIP: I didn't like some bites of the food due to an odd fishy taste... I learned later, at a cooking class, that this actually stemmed from a green on the salad plate! Not an off piece of fish! These greens look kind of like arrows with smooth edges. If you tear them in half and smell, you'll know what they are. Apparently many people don't like them, but some obviously do. Just a tip!

It is a bit hard to find...down an alley. It's best to get to the right general area and then ask for help finding the restaurant. The locals all know it.

“Cheap and amazingly tasty!!”
Reviewed February 1, 2014 via mobile

This is the second time I had been to Balewell, this time bringing my lovely girl along. Was stuffed stupid on the pork-fresh greens - satay rice paper wraps, and they even threw in 2 mango puree cups and a plate of pineapple for dessert! Only cost us 275,000 VD..equivalent to $13.50 Australian, top feed for next to nothing:)

“Favourite restaurant in Hoi An”
Reviewed January 28, 2014

My partner and I loved this restaurant so much we visited twice during our 4 day stay in Hoi An. The restaurant offers a fixed menu of grilled pork and Vietnamese pancakes together with rice paper, herbs and salad, pickles and sauce. Don't know how to eat it? No problems - they roll the first one for you. Service was great and food was amazing and the price - phenomenally cheap for the quantity and quality. Highly recommend Bale Well!
