“Authentic Vietnamese street food bursting with flavour and fun”
Reviewed December 28, 2013 via mobile

Okay so when in Hoi An everyone wanders up and down the old town streets and there are lots of nice restaurants here but it is so worth venturing up the hill to try this one out. The best place I went to in hoi an.

It's down a little back alley but there is a sign outside and a nice old man trying to tempt people in.

This is authentic Vietnamese street food.

There is no menu (apart from drinks and I'd really recommend the lemonade it's home made I think and so tasty) you just sit down and they bring you food. It's a selection of meat on sticks, salad, vegetables which you roll everything up inside rice pancakes and dip into satay sauce.

They a obviously used to having tourists as they speak very good English and also show you how to make the pancakes. However try as I might I just couldn't get mine to hold together as well as they did, they all just fell apart, however that was part of the fun.

Then they bring you a choice of mouses for dessert, the choice is mango or chocolate. Definitely go with the mango it was amazing. Finally you get some pineapple to finish it off.

All this for 110,000 which seems very reasonable. Drinks are also reasonably priced with the lemonade at 15,000.

There is a good mix of locals and tourists and the place has a lovely atmosphere.

They staff are really nice. One of the people in the table next to me was vegetarian so they made him some noodles instead if the meat and charged him less for it. This is excellent customer service and also it's really nice to see that they are not trying to exploit the tourists.

If you are in hoi an you really should go. I can't recommend it highly enough.

“Fantastic food and experience”
Reviewed December 27, 2013 via mobile

After seeing a write up for this one in Lonely Planet we thought we'd give it a go and we were not disappointed.

Just down a little side street we were greeted with a warm welcome and told about the set menu.

The out came the pork satay, crispy pancake rolls, salad, mixed veg, omelette, rice paper wraps ... the table just kept on filling up.

Our looks of confusion must have been obvious as we maybe made two wraps out of the lot... our waitress showed us how and then kept going... to be honest if we hadn't said we were full I think they would have brought even more out!

Full to the brims with 2 beers and fab food for 260k VND (330k approx £10) and that was for two!

Amazing, fab, fantastic... Thoroughly recommend hunting this one out. You will not regret it!

“Authentic and great value”
Reviewed December 26, 2013

Delicious food of banh xeo, spring rolls, pork satay skewers in rice paper. Staff are very friendly and helpful, meal is excellent value and setting can be described as 'comfortable street'. A good choice after you have eaten at the more westernised and touristy places closer to the river, but are not yet confident enough to try the street food.

When you think you have eaten more than you should, the staff bring out a selection of mousses and fresh pineapple.

“Delicious street food”

We had a great meal. The women are all very nice and helped show us how to eat the bbq in rice paper to make rolls. Clean and a real sized table made it more comfortable. They even do take away for people!

“Fun experience, lots of flavor”
Reviewed December 18, 2013

I had heard about the actual Bale Well in Hoi An that supplies special water that restaurants use to cook their food, so I figured might as well try a place named for it. The restaurant is located down a small alley, but as long as you're coming from the larger street, someone is bound to flag you in. We sat down, ordered drinks, and then were immediately brought all the food on their fixed menu. You're supposed to wrap the ingredients together in a sort of spring roll, but if you're slow or look like you don't know what you're doing, a lady will come by and do it for you (without asking, so if you care about that you may have to firmly decline). That was fine with us though! Tons of flavor in each bite. I read it's AYCE but we were already stuffed after the first round. Choice of chocolate or fruity dessert was a nice touch. Total meal came out to something like $12 USD for 2 and we were in and out of the place within 15 minutes. Really fun, authentic experience.
