I'll be honest, the only reason we went in was to use the toilet so we thought we'd get a drink while we were there. What seemed like very cheap cocktails turned out to have no alcohol on them and even though they were advertising happy hour we still got charged full price. We only took a few sips of the drinks as they looked disgusting, I had a fake mojito that had some black stuff floating in the bottom of the glass (as did my wife's piña colada) and the ingredients didn't look fresh at all. Although we didn't try the food, there's no way we would have eaten in this disgusting place, especially after a rat shot across the floor near our table. We'd already eaten earlier at the Mai Fish down the road anyway which was delicious and fresh Vietnamese food.

Nice setting made better using the kerosene lamps. Cafe walls has indication of flood levels over the years and nice old pictures of Hoi An. Food was nice. Try the grilled fish with lemon grass or something. The grilled stuff here are good! Prices are reasonable as well. Cafe does not look classy from the outside but do go there for the "ancient" and local feel.

Check out the flood markers on the walls inside the cafe. Only a tiny place but always filled with people. Food was excellent.

We were travelling on a budget so could not really afford the other cookery classes that were offered in Hoi An. After doing a bit of research we managed to find Cafe 96 with Mr Bup as our teacher.

It was incredible! It was just the two of us and we made 3 different dishes that were all delicious: spring rolls (steamed and fried), green papaya and prawn salad, and fish wrapped in coconut leaf.

All in all great quality food and extremely good value for money giving you an insight into making Vietnamese dishes with recipes to take away with you. Exactly what we wanted.

Thank you Mr Bup!

Hubby and I ate at Bup's Cafe 96 on our first day and it was absolutley delicious! We loved it so much that we then did a cooking class the following day at his Cafe. The Cafe overlooks the river & is beautiful at night with the lanterns on everywhere.
The papaya salad is amazing & the spring rolls (both steamed or fried) are addictive.
Bloody cold beer always available & cheap cheap cocktails!
Cooking class $12 AUD (5 courses) & beers less then $1AUD!
Thanks Bup for the beautiful food. You are a great host mate!!
