This is a nice Looking place by the River. Beer Was cheap and cold but food was simply quite bad. Luckily also portions were small. Had to go eat elsewhere afterwards.

At our first day in Hoi An we passed by this restaurant and were attracted by the location. This was a big mistake! We ordered spring rolls as a starter and they were really good. We waited a long time for the main courses. We ordered "roasted duck" and "satay with peanutsauce" which according to the restaurant were among their specialties. We didnt know if we should laugh or cry. The appearance and the taste of the dishes showed a complete lack of passion and carelessness. The dishes were served with two slices of cucumber and tomato! We didn't complete our meal and thank god for the local skinny cat who did instead! The horrendous experience were completed by a rat running down the wall and one of the waiters hitting the cat with a stick!!

Conclusion: Don't go there! You will regret it!

We were staying in Hoi An for the moon festival and ended up getting down the the river a bit later than expected...and had not eaten yet. So as we were walking down the street towards the bridge in town, we stopped here because it has a great view of the river and all the people walking by. That's where the good part ends.

The service at Cafe Can was modest at best and horrendous by Vietnam standards - where most folks fall over themselves to make sure you have what you need. The food was pitiful. I ate it, but I it was out of necessity and not enjoyment. And to boot, it was overpriced. There are too many good/great places with fantastic food to stop here...unless you want to have a beer and people watch. It's really hard to screw up a beer.

From the roadside it quite an attractive little establishment & nice view looking upon the river. This facade hides many of it inadequacies, speed of service is totally in taking the order and delivering it slow would be kind. They delivered the incorrect meal to me, I realized this and was just about to tell them when a rather irate customer stormed up to my table and grabbed it then proceeded to start bellowing that was his, luckily for him he directed this at the senior male waiter. Because my wife had been given both her meals and had finished them. What made this incident more to my disliking was the waiter aggressively proceeded to take his humiliation out upon the very young female waitress. The food was nothing to rave about in any way shape or form. It is disappointing that during a meal the only thing you forward to is leaving.

The staff were incompetent and rude. The size and quality of the meals were equally atrocious. Most orders were taken without a word, several requests for a drink are needed for one drink. They did seem suddenly more animated when a gang of chinamen appeared and starting flashing their fancy cameras in all directions...honestly, that crowd and the cam cafe staff should be thrown in the river.

Don't be fooled by the potentially great location. Avoid as you would a rabid dog.
