“Impressive”

Impressive architecture, beautiful tile work. A monument to man's desire to impress others.

A few too many shops but this is the curse (and means of survival) of sites in Uzbekistan.

“An amazing revival”
Reviewed October 22, 2012

Old photographs show the degradation of the three main monuments constituting the Registan. What has been done to bring them back to their original grandeur is truly amazing. When comparing with the other monuments in Uzbekistan, its the huge size of those buildings which impress the most when you discover them for the first time. They look like cathedrals! An absolute must in a city so rich with superb monuments.

“Very good for a Day!”
Reviewed October 8, 2012

I am lucky enough to live in Tashkent, so a day trip to Samarkand was the order of the day. My wife and I took the train in the morning which took just over two hours. £50 for 1st Class, outstanding value. We had a guide organised who took us around Samarkand. The monuments are very beautiful, but certainly by the end of the day they were much the same. It is a place you must visit but I would only recommend you go for the day. Bukara is next on the list!

By local rates the cost to enter each attraction is relatively expensive.

“Main attraction - not to be missed”
Reviewed October 7, 2012

Try early morning or late afternoon when the sun rises or sets. Best for photo opportunities. One needs to spend a minimum of 3 hours here to see Registan.

“Past and hopefully present glory”
Reviewed October 4, 2012

It,s really awesome! You can use yr imagination of the days gone by.
Uzbeks are friendly and courteous people.
Only thing is, cleanliness of the toilets should be improvised. Most of them were smelly and dirty. For Muslims, you have to bring water bottle to take water to clean yrself even though most of the washrooms are charged 500 Cym.
