The food at El Drugstore is good, but you'll be dining here for the decor more than anything else. The interior is filled with kitschy objects and artifacts from the Southern Cone, and the cobblestone street next door is lined with old cars from the 1940s, each equipped with seats and a tiny dining table (on a nice day, you can have your lunch or dinner inside one of these super cool cars). If you're in Colonia, it's one of the more interesting dining experiences to be had.

Over-priced and over-rated. We must have had the same waitress as your reviewer Vaquero Viajero, when we visited recently on a quiet mid-week evening. We sat in what were interesting surroundings for several minutes before the waitress noticed we were there and handed us the menus. She spoke no English, appeared to be in a daze, and we wondered if she had been asked to step in at short notice, despite her having no waitressing experience. We ordered the set meal for two, and managed to let her know we wanted mashed potato with our fish (which turned out to be good). My starter arrived- a very basic baked potato with a cheese topping- but not my wife`s salad. Despite enquiries as to its non-appearance, we couldnt understand the explanation and shrugs of the shoulders. The main course arrived (while I was finishing the potato) with one basic salad of grated carrot, lettuce and a few tomatoes, between two. By this time we were feeling pretty fed up, so chose to skip the tea/coffee and pay as soon as possible. We were presented with a bill for two complete set meals, just to rub salt in the wounds. There followed a 15 minute discussion with the woman on the cash desk, who had a small amount of English, but who had kept well out of the way during our fruitless `discussions` with the waitress, and after a phone conversation with her boss, she graciously agreed not to charge us for the tea/coffee. Words failed me at that point, so we paid up and left.

El Drugstore served more adventurous food than is common in Uruguay. I had the curried shrimp and my spouse had the Japanese stir fry. Both were tasty and for Colonia, reasonably priced. The live music was a surprise as we were there on a Tuesday evening but it certainly added to the experience.

We thoroughly enjoyed the decor, the music, and the food here at El Drugstore. For lunch it was steak sandwiches (chivitos) and entrecot with a huge salad - all of it well-prepared and delicious. We were here about noon on a Saturday afternoon - at the right time for entertainment by guitarist/vocalist Jorge de Lizaarza and vocalist Maria Mercedes Horare. Ended up buying a CD of theirs because we enjoyed their music so much. Highly recommend this restaurant for its location in heart of Colonia del Sacramento. Be sure to go inside and see their open kitchen with the chefs at work!

As many reviewers mention the Drugstore has an inviting fun atmosphere and live music. When we stopped here for lunch, however, the service was unbelievably bad. Our waitress was not even marginally interested in taking our order or seeing to our needs. The problem was not language, we speak Spanish and only used Spanish in the restaurant. It took nearly An hour and a half for our meal to come. The waitress would appear periodically wandering from table to table with a bewildered look on Ther face, asking the customers if the dishes she had went to their table. The food was ok but after waiting so long we just wolfed it down and left. The bill was greatly excessive for the service and expensive for the quality of the food.
