Three nights at Posada del Virrey did not exhaust its many charms.

Excellent service staff, immediate response to every inquiry.

Clean, antique filled rooms were a delight.

Excellent breakfast, well beyond the standard fare, included
some local delicacies.

Central location made short walks a delight, whether off to the
pier a block away, to good restaurants nearby or to several
nearby "bars".

This was one of the best hotels in a month long South American
trip, in a truly wonderful place - Colonia, a World Heritage site.

While on a trip to Buenos Aires my husband and I decided to take a side trip over to Colonia del Sacramento, Uruguay and stay at the Hotel Posada del Virrey. Located on a side street near the water this hotel takes you back in time. Upon arrival the first thing you notice is its tall handcarved front doors. Once inside the hallways and rooms lead you to an open courtyard. The rooms have tall ceilings with ceiling fans and beautiful antique furnishings. If you're looking for quiet this is definitely the place for you. Bedding was comfortable and the rooms are very clean. Staff is friendly and very helpful. The continental breakfast is more than one would expect with fresh juices, coffee, an assortment of sweet cakes and breads, croissants, cheeses from the area and much, much more. It is centrally located and within walking distance of most attractions. Don't miss the fantastic views and sunset from their room top terrace.

This is a lovely little courtyard hotel in the heart of old Colonia, close to restaurants, river front and the main tourist shops.
We had attractive clean rooms, each named after a famous person. My "superior" room even had a bath with jets. The hotel has a roof terrace overlooking the sea, (from which we saw stunning sunsets). Breakfast was in a room with a log fire. We had a choice of croisants, cereals, breads, cheese, fruits etc .....
The service was very quick, smiling and friendly. I would definitely go back there.

There is not a huge amount to do in Colonia itself, but the contrast between the hectic bustle of B.A. and the quietness of the town was very soothing. Travelling on the Busquebus to Colonia from B.A. and finding our hotel, was very easy. You do not even need to change your money as they will take Argentinian pesos almost everywhere.
