“Huge!”
Reviewed December 28, 2012

It is so big that it looks like the ocean. What gives it away is the color brown of its waters, rather than the blue of the ocean. It's interesting to observe the choppy waters.

“Wish we had 10 hours of our life back!”
Reviewed December 21, 2012

We took the Buquebus from Buenos Aires to Colonia...that was the best part of the trip. The ferry is smooth, fast and has a decent bar for snacks, drinks, etc. Colonia is a small 3rd world sleepy town with virtually nothing to see or do. We salvaged the day by sitting at an outdoor cafe listening to a guitar player/singer for about an hour. We spent $25 each on the hop on/hop off bus that was a very unsatisfying 30 minutes. There was no need to hop off this bus since there was nothing to see! Do not go to this city.

“River not the sea”
Reviewed December 18, 2012

The brown colour makes it look so dirty but you have to remember that this body of water is a river not the sea. That said, we found it to be clean and we were able to swim in it. We explored the river from downtown Colonia all the way out to the barrio of Real de San Carlos. Here the river is edged by sandy beaches so you get much more of a seaside feel. Outstanding free entertainment was watching the sunset across the river. Spectacular especially when Buenos Aires was also highlighted in the back ground.

“Mediocrity has its own ship...”
Reviewed December 16, 2012

I traveled with Buquebus to Colonia and then to Montevideo. I have to say that if this company´s objective was to excel at mediocrity, they have certainly achieved their goal. I tried repeatedly to contact Buquebus to no avail and after 2 pm on Saturday their offices were closed. I tried rebooking online and their web site was down for almost two days. Their staff tried to help but it seemed like they didnt have a clue to what was going on. I am unclear as to how a company of this size is just so provincial in their mindset and customer service, which was terribly absent.

“Wouldn't go in water, but nice to see!”
Reviewed November 5, 2012

We took the public bus from Barrio Historico up to Real de San Carlos, walked to the waterfront and back down the Old Town. Really nice views, lots of small beaches. A few waterfront restaurants, all pretty expensive. Water wasn't as murky as in BA/Tigre, but still didn't seem right for swimming.
