“We loved this hotel”
Reviewed September 13, 2010

After spending more than a week in Buenos Aires and at the Iguazu Falls in Argentina, we took the ferry over to Colonia from B.A. for a few days to unwind a bit. This hotel was perfect for relaxation. We got in late, but were greeted by hotel desk trainee, Rocio, who spoke perfect English and was most helpful throughout our 2 day stay. She's a rising star! Dinner at the Del Carmen restaurant was very good and we enjoyed the Tannat wine which you must have while in Uruguay (and also the "Patricia" beer). After we unpacked, we took a quick tour of the hotel and noted the beautiful outdoor infinity pool, the small fitness room and indoor pool. There was, also, a casino attached to the hotel which got very crowded on bingo night! Our room was fairly large and comfortable, but as we reserved a certain type of room, my husband and I were stuck with 2 Queens instead of one KIng (but it was a minor issue). The breakfast at the Del Carmen was outstanding -- everything from fresh squeezed orange juice to cereal to yogurt to fresh fruit to omelets to sausages, etc. The hotel is on the river so we had a great view of the water while eating breakfast, especially since our room did not face the river. One night, I met the manager as he was leaving the hotel and he was most gracious and welcoming. The location was near to many of the sites in town which was quaint and historic. We certainly enjoyed ourselves at the Radisson and in beautiful Colonia. We will definitely return.

Good location -- not in the middle of the old city, but very close to it; not far from ferry terminal; just off the main street where the restaurants/shops are. Everything very glossy and new, unlike many of other the 3-4 star hotels we stayed in during 5 weeks in South America. Buffet breakfast included, but unfortunately the reception didn't tell us until we were checking out and they said "and are you going to have breakfast before you go?" and we didn't even have time! Lovely poolside area that also overlooks the river.

We really liked this hotel, it has a great location, one block from one of the main streets in the historic part of Colonia, and within easy walking distance of the main historic sights. It is also by the sea and has stunning views of the sunset in the evenings over the water. The hotel has an outdoor infinity pool, but we didn't use it as it was only 12 degrees when we were there. There is also a small gym and an indoor 'pool' but I use this description very loosely, as it was so small (maybe only 2 metres by 2 metres!). We didn't use this either. The hotel is modern, and the rooms are spacious and basically what you would expect from a Radisson. We ate dinner once in the restaurant, which was slightly more expensive than eating out perhaps, but the food was good. The breakfast was also fine (standard continental affair). The restaurant overlooks the water with great views. There are two PCs in the lobby with free internet access. The staff were friendly and helpful when we asked about taking the bus to Montevideo. I would definitely stay in this hotel again if I am lucky enough to go back to Colonia one day.

The best thing about this hotel is the location otherwise it is nothing special. The service is not very good and the breakfast was probably the worst during our 7 weeks in south america.

After a week "Buenos Aires Escape" in Uruguay, we spend our last night in Uruguay in this hotel. We were looking for a 4 star hotel in the old center of Colonia, and this was the only choice, because I wanted to be sure that rooms were big enough with all lugage + child. The location is super, staff friendly, rooms are OK, but very dark inside with few lights to put on , and some small defects in bathroom (only shower was working, could not fill up bath tub with regular tap). The outside pool is great, the inside pool is not very interesting, too small (4x4meters approx) and too warm. Food and breakfast is ok. The attached Casino is not very interesting if you compare with European or "las Vegas" standards. For some 200us$ i find it a bit overpriced, so in my global quotation I have to give an "average". Without children i would have preferred a romantic 3 star in the old town, but for our purposes it was ok.(kids corner with nintendo wii etc.....)

We have been many times in Colonia, but this was a first for this hotel. It is very well located, near major attractions (in Colonia, that means the historic district!) and has all amenities of a 4/5 star hotel.

We got a room in the third floor looking into a internal patio (we have two kids and it seems those are the rooms with two full beds). Best rooms look into the Rio de la Plata, with king (queen ?) beds. Some of them have also veranda, great to enjoy the sunset.

Staff was ok at the front desk but then you have to call them many times to get the extra towel or any services. Its true that the hotel was full, but we also saw most staff wearing "Trainee" badges. For this particular week (Carnival) it was not a good idea to understaff.

Breakfast buffet was ok, with good fruit and breads. But again, service was bad. Tables were left uncleaned till you called them, coffee took too long to arrive, etc. We went at around 9.45 am most days and this happened every time.

There is a small Casino attached to the building. You can just walk from the second floor. Very convenient if you like to gamble. As usual, the house wins !

Outside pool is fantastic. Its a rimless overlooking the River, cold but very nice. Chairs and umbrellas were provided. There is also an indoor pool, very small but heated (and not very well maintained). Two jacuzzis in the outside (there were cold the first day, jets didnt work).

My wife had a very good massage at U$ 45. Not a bad deal.
