The historic barrio is extremely interesting. It was good to have a guide explain the differences between the Spanish and Portuguese occupations and architecture. loved wandering the side streets. Totally laid back, no traffic, sleepy gentle dogs roaming.

Quant and bathed in lantern liight Colonia is wonderful. After many love/hate reviews we ex[erieced it for ourselves and fell in love. Escape to the quiet streets, which at night are lantern light and this place is magic. Don't come her if you want a shopping/hustle/bustle mecca. Relax annd enjoy

The old UNESCO listed area of the city was wonderful, with many buildings restored and in use. The lighthouse has a particularly good view, with many steps to its light. There are many excellent outdoors eating cafes and quality gift shops to be browsed. I enjoyed just wandering taking the sites in and having a bite to eat when hungry. This town will be a worthwhile addition to Uruguay's tourist economy.

Worth taking the drive (2hrs) from Montevideo to see this 1600 century town. Walk around the - unfortunately - abbandoned beatiful buildings surrounded by paved roads. Lots of little good restaurants. A few museums.

Colonia is so beautiful, calm, peaceful and well worth the hour ferry ride from Buenos Aires. This area is great to leisurely stroll through, grab a bite to eat and a drink. My friends and I were feeling a little overwhelmed after several days in Buenos Aires and needed break from the big city. There's not much to here so an afternoon or an overnight trip is enough.
