Marlo is a great place for steaks, chops, sausages, and virtually any sort of meat you might want. Very attractive place, and lively. Also, we loved the music. Not live, just very well chosen Jazz.

Had a great bottle of wine from Altos de la Ballena, a winery in Punta we had also visited.courtesy of The Wine Experience (something else in Colonia, Montevideo and Punta del Este that you should seek out).

Staff was friendly, food was delicious, atmosphere was great. One of our Uruguayan favorites.

Nice welcome and service, we were the second table in at 8.45 on a spring Monday but people were waiting for tables by 10pm.

Starters of grilled prawns with paprika and sweetbreads were both over cooked. Not good for a restaurant where all the main courses come from the grill. However, mains of swordfish and ribeye were very good and cooked to perfection. We really enjoyed the grilled veggies too.

That would normally give a redeeming 4/5 for food and service but it drops to 3 because

1) it suffers from "idle child syndrome". There's a young chap we are assuming is the owners son who swanned around all evening not doing anything but chatting even when the pass was full of food going cold or tables needed clearing to allow waiting guests to be seated. We're not telling them how to run their business or family, but it looks and feels bad for guests

2) We saw the more mature chap (assumption: father/owner) recycle shot glasses of garnishes/sauces that had not been consumed by passing them back to the in-restaurant grill chef for re-use. Bad enough doing it, disgusting to do it out front.

So poor starters, great mains but management and hygiene strike it down for us.

The place is small, but it's very nice. The service was good and efficient. We ate a delicious steak and drank a great wine for a reasonable price.

We had an excellent dining experience at Marlo. The restaurant is inviting, with exposed stone walls, beautiful glassware, an open fire grill and racks of wine on the walls. The wine was a highlight, with the owner walking us through the extensive wine menu and making a range of excellent recommendations. Our meal was delicious - lamb cooked on the open flame, with side orders of flame roasted sweet potato and capsicum. Simple ingredients, but prepared perfectly and served with flare. Really recommended.

Really a fantastic meal. My wife had the Hake accompanied by a baked sweet potato which was excellent. I had the Kasler which is a smoked pork chop with apple and mashed potatoes. Incredible dish for me it was one of the finest pieces of meat I have had. The best description would be the flavor of a thick slice of smoked bacon.
Really enjoyed the size - small- and the overall ambiance. Service was spot on and we enjoyed the Tannat wine from Uruguay. We always try to go with the local wine and were not disappointed.
Great find and highly recommended
