Definitely one of the best B+Bs on our South American trip. Fred is a charming attentive host -- even bringing us a huge pate of bread, fruit and cheeses when we arrived late at night, exhausted from our journey from South Africa. The upstairs room was large and attractively furnished. Breakfast a sumptuous feast. Our host found restaurants for us, gave us advice and was generally far more helpful than the norm. We would definitely go back even though it was on the expensive side. We stayed 3 nights.

Very discrete, very clean. Huge rooms, air cond., flat tv, mini kitchen, all with a fine small town taste. The city is very safe, and this place, the place to sleep.

My wife and I stayed at Colonia Suite in September on a trip to Montevideo and Buenos Aires. We were only in Colonia for about 24 hours (noon to noon), but it was a wonderful place. We saw about everything in Coloniawith in 24hr, but I think we would have stuck around just to stay another night here. Fred, the owner, was a fantastic resource. He was full of helpful suggestions for places to snack, eat, relax and shop (which are the main attractions in Colonia!). The B&B had really nice, large and well appointed rooms. Ours had a living are and small kitchenette, which was a nice touch. I'm not sure if all the room are so equipped. There's also a beautiful back yard/garden that would have been a great place to relax if we'd had more time. Breakfasts were fantastic, too. Great bakery, meat and cheese, homemade jams... I can't imagine a better place.

My husband and I stayed at Colonia Suite for four days in early September, when we were in Colonia for our wedding. We had come over from Australia for our wedding (and subsequent honeymoon), and we had an absolutely beautiful experience staying here - I cannot recommend it enough.

Fred (owner) is a lovely person, extremely knowledgeable about the area and helpful with any problems or questions that come up. Even when we were organising the details of our (very small) wedding from afar, Fred was able and happy to help. He also arranged some celebratory drinks after the ceremony, along with Jacky (who also works at Colonia Suite) and several other friends, in the beautiful courtyard out the back.

We stayed in the Garden Suite, which is the largest, and has its own little deck that looks out over the garden. We found everything we needed there and even if there was something we needed that was missing e.g. an iron, Fred would find it for us. We also loved the design and style of our room and the common areas - they are beautiful, artistic and incredibly charming, but still relaxed and comfortable enough for you to feel at home.

Breakfast was delicious - a selection of fresh artisanal breads, medialunas, jams, cheeses, cold meats, stewed fruits some mornings, coffee, tea and particularly nice freshly squeezed orange juice. Both of us thoroughly enjoyed it and a couple of times ate more than necessary because we found it so nice :-)

Colonia itself is a lovely place. We arrived in on a Sunday and it was bustling with tourists, but the weekdays were much quieter, which we preferred. Walking around the streets was lovely, the historic centre is quite small, everything seems only a few blocks away. One day we hired a scooter and went out into the countryside around Colonia, which is absolutely pretty and highly recommended.

Overall, our experience was even better than we had anticipated. We enjoyed Colonia and loved staying at Colonia Suite. We also loved meeting Fred - we found him to be a gracious and quirky host - and Jacky too.

I would definitely recommend this to anyone coming to Colonia.
