Description: Lentas Maravillas isn't exactly a restaurant, it's a coffee shop/tea-room that also serves lunch and occasional private dinners. We are a small venue that sits up to 14 people in our living room and up to 16 people in the garden. We like being small because we can provide better service to our clients. We specialise in gourmet sandwiches and salads in Summer. In winter, in addition to our sandwiches, we make a spicy goulash and a chicken curry...There's also a hot, fiery soup to welcome our clients as they wait for their food to arrive...Desserts are home-made and some of the cakes are a revised version of my mother's Austro-Hungarian recipes.

Dubbed our favorite little hang-out in Colonia, we visited twice during our short stay. Both the inside and outside seating are superb. Inside you're surrounded by a large collection of books: old and new, written in an array of different languages, and sprinkled around them are unique treasures like a checkers set, funky tea pots, and an old typewriter. Then outside there are little alcoves of chairs underneath the shade of tall trees, all looking out at a view of the river. All the food we had was exceptional, sandwiches and desserts alike. The homemade coffee ice cream (a family recipe) was great for a warm day, as was the iced ginger tea! A great environment to sit back and relax, whether you want to read, chat, or simply enjoy a quiet spot to clear your head and enjoy some scrumptious eateries. With that said, probably not a place for someone who wants a quick in-and-out spot to eat. Better to take your time here and enjoy all it has to offer.

Lentas Maravillas is perfect after a long day walking around Colonia. The garden and the armchairs overlooking the river are a perfect spot to relax and contemplate life. This is not the place to go for lunch unless a sandwich will do for you. The iced coffee and the ginger iced tea are fantastic. In my opinion, it is a bit overpriced, but everything in Colonia is overpriced. There is a cocktail, which is a must called "Frozen de Maracuya" which is great, made out of champagne, white wine and maracuya. Service is very friendly and nobody will rush you to leave so sit down, relax, and enjoy.

We had a sandwich and a glass of wine X3 and were billed 1.100 pesos uruguayos. Thats twice as much as I pay in a similar context in Europe, which says it all about prices.
The food per se was good (the wine less) but all those may seem out of context after you ve visited the place. The place is uniquely furnished & decorated and thats before we mention a collection of art books that beats mine. I d probably be a regular if I spend more time in Colonia. Again, not sure what to think of the prices though.

We made two visits to Lentas Maravillas while we were in Colonia. It was so relaxing there, sitting in the garden watching the hummingbirds darting around. The tea selection was outstanding and the cake was delicious. We also had lunch there, which was really good. There is also an extensive collection of books you can choose from and there is wifi there also. The ladies working there are super friendly - would highly recommend a visit for a chat and a cup of tea!

“We are what we eat” said 19th Century German Philosopher Ludwig Feuerbach and if he'd found this hidden gem in Colonia del Sacramento he'd be right. A gorgeous little place - part cafe part library with a sloping garden down to the shores of Rio de la Planta is the perfect spot to sit, relax and gobble up cakes, coffee and wine alone or with friends. It's self-described as Colonia's best kept secret and if it came to it, they'd have my vote. Lovely.
