Posada de Campo Gondwana

We truly did not want to leave Gondwana. Isabella thinks of everything you might need before you realize you need it. The setting is beautiful and tranquil, there are bikes to ride and dogs to accompany you, and the breakfast--especially if you have recently experienced breakfast in Buenos Aires--is something to anticipate. If we returned to Colonia, we would never consider staying inside the town center. And Andy's wine is superb!

We had a wonderful stay here with my 3 young children, spouse and mother in law. The rooms are beautifully decorated and the setting is peaceful. You are far enough away from Colonia to feel disconnected from everything yet close enough to go back into town to walk around, dine out or visit museums. Our hosts knew about small beaches we could bike to that were incredibly private. You can try their homegrown wine, order homemade meals and relax around the pool with a view of horses and the river in the distance. A great escape from Buenos Aires for some R & R!!!!!

Andy and Isabella the lovely Swiss couple who own and run Gondwana made us feel extremely welcome . The rooms are spacious , clean and well decorarated. The swimming pool and grounds are also very well maintained . The food , wine and service made us not really want to leave after 3 nights . If you are looking for somewhere tranquil and peaceful and like horse riding, golf and beaches this place is for you.

My husband and I spent 5 days around New Year at Gondwana. We chose it because we stayed there a few years a go and loved it, and this time it was as good as we remembered. Because it is small and it has bungalows and rooms in different sites, you have a sense of being alone, as if it were your own house. The views are of the rolling countryside and farmlands of Colonia that stretch all the way to the river. The rooms are done in a comfortable rustic style and filled with lovely old objects and pieces of furniture and fabrics that Andy has picked up on his many trips around South America. It is truly a place to relax, to take hikes, to go riding or to simply lie by the pool. Isabella and Andy are excellent hosts with a high standard of service and extremely friendly.

We learned of Gondwana 8 years ago on our first trip to Italy when we sat with a woman at dinner who was the proprietor at the time. She gave us her card and we said if we were ever in Buenos Aires, we would try and visit her B&B. When we finally made it, it was 8 years later, and that woman was no longer in residence. No matter, we decided to stay after reading the reviews on TA.

It totally exceeded our expectations, especially not knowing how ready we would be for quiet and fresh air after one week in BA. The surroundings are serene and the room could not be more inviting. Isabel is an incredible hostess, and could not have been more gracious to us. Not only was the breakfast incredble, but Isabel prepared us a tasty pizza the night we arrived which we ate with some of the wine made by Andy on the premises.

I would recommend anyone staying overnight in Colonia to stay at Gondwana instead of in town. It was one of the highlights of our 2 weeks in Argentina and Uruguay.

The hospitality that Andy and Isabella offer in Gondwana is incredible. The attention given by them is unique. We couldn´t have found a better place to stay where the details make all the difference. Thank you very much for all, you have made our trip much nicer and unforgetable.

After the pace and noise of Buenos Aires, we needed time to be in the country, listening to birds, looking at flowers and eating well. Gondwana was the answer. We arrived late in the afternoon tired and hungry. Isabella and Andy produced a great pizza and a beautifully fresh salad on a moment's notice. The rooms are beautifully rustic, clean and comfortable. We loved Andy's stories of guiding winderness adventure trips into remote regions of South America. Isabella's perfect English was ( we must admit) music to our ears. We watched the grape harvest and sampled their excellent wine. We grew to love their oldest dog and both horses. The Swiss reputation for excellence in hotel keeping is intact here on the shores of the Rio la Plata.
