“worst service ever experienced”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 24, 2010

This hotel should have it all, its close to Dubai has a spa, beach restaurants and the Hilton nsme however thats where it stops. We travelled for one night for a break from Dubai, on arrival we queued to Valet park, then proceeded to unload our luggage while the attendnt spoke to another worker close by. Check it was painless enough except for a disgustly warm glass of orange juice which they presented us with. On arrival to the room we where surprised, the rooms are very nice and we had a great view.
We then changed and went for lunch which was good by any standard for a pool lunch. At this stage we were begining to enjoy our staybefore we went swimming. The pools were digustingly warm. Never have I swam in anything so hot and with no where to cool down had to leave the pool only 20 mins after arrival.
When we went back to the room we discovered there were no in room movies and only 1 childrens channel which is a little poor for a family hotel of this size when your trying to keep children away from the hot swimming pools.
We decided to eat in the Asian restaurant, howver found that this no longer existed, so instead chose the south american. Concierge told us that this was 1.5km away so not possible to walk howver he would arrange a buggy. 20mins later I asked how long the buggy would be at which point he only phoned to order one. ANother 15mins and it eventually arrived. The buggy turned out to be a warm sweaty van which left us absolutly soaked on arrival at the restuarant. Again no air con in restauarant and only a air con unit blowing out cold air in the corner which we sat beside so where relativly cool. The other diners where constantly sweating anf one family took there food to take away.
On our return to the hotel we again boarded the bus only this time to be squeesed in like sardines and though full the driver stoped 4 times along the awy to try to let people squeese in. Eventually we he appeared happy that we were all soaking with sweat he granted our wish to just get us back to the hotel and out of the bus. I asked for a manager to show him the state of us to which he replied sorry sir there is no air con on the bus before walking away.
Final morning breakfeast was very good however again when leaving we rang for our bags to be taken, 40 mins later we decided we would bring them orselves as no one seemed to be coming.
On checkout we were asked to come up presented with our bill and then told to wait while he attended another guest, another 15mins just to check out.
Worst service ever experienced. Disgraceful temp in the pools. Bad managment who cant even build on ther good staff and rooms.

This hotel is very old. It's almost like entering the "Twilight Zone". You find yourself asking is this really a Hilton? Everything is very dark, lobby, rooms, bars , restaurants. They are building a mall next door so when that's finished you could spend all your time there until you are ready to fall asleep.

Dear "jtp4050",

First of all thank you for taking the time to write your review, which is appreciated.

Not ignoring the fact that our hotel from a design point of view perhaps does not reflect the most modern standards, I hope that you, as so many other according to their reviews on Tripadvisor, have however received the highest service standards for which we are known.

For your information, we are continuously reviewing opportunities to modernise, or rather upgrade our facilities, without affecting the image of the hotel, which has attracted many guests based on it being truely a "home away from home".

Hilton is proud to offer additionally to this hotel, a brand new resort in the same city, and I hope that you, as well as many other discerning travellers, will find the best accommodation in either of our properties, which are both unique in their own way.

Once again I thank you for the feedback, and I hope that if you will visit the Emirate of Ras al Khaimah again in the future, you will stay at Hilton again, perhaps at the resort which might be better suitable for your requirements.

Kindest regards,

Erwin van der Veen

It was our 40th wedding anniversary 30th June so we went later than usual this year weather very hot but bearable. This hotel has to be one of the best we have ever stopped in, OK it is not that attractive but the service the staff and food is 1st class.
You can use all the facilities of the resort and spa which is 5 minutes away by the hotels shuttle bus which runs promptly every hour howether we like the pool at the city hotel.
The resort and spa is a beautiful hotel with every possible facility and ideal for honeymoons, first time visitors to this part of the world and families with children but i would recommend all inclusive if you go to this hotel.
This year we were on H/B which suited us fine breakfast is excellent and the evening meal could not be faulted the a l carte restraunt is very reasonable and you are given an allowance against your evening meal, the staff in the Hoof and Fin will do everything to make it a meal to remember.
Drinks are a bit expensive but not that bad compared with other hotels, the CO-OP supermarket (honest) is only 5mins walk away cans of soft drinks 18p water 15p .
All Inclusive is ok if you are a big eater but a bit restrictive on drinks only house wine and Tuborg lager but all the soft drinks you can name.
This hotel we love for a quiet holiday good staff and value for money we paid £40 night for H/B where else can you get the use of 7 pools, gym, spa .
The town itself is nothing special but you can walk around and everyone is friendly and helpful internet cafes 60p 30 mins.
The hotel runs a free shuttle to Dubai twice a week well worth a day out.
Lots more places in the world we would like to go, but we will be going back to RAK because this hotel ticks all the boxes.

The water in ALL of the RAK Hilton swimming pools is hot. It is so hot that even the kids won't get in the water.

Initially the management claimed that the machines to chill the pools were broken but we eventually discovered that they only turned on the machines when they had a certain amount of guests.
Hot swimming pools made for a very unpleasant vacation.

Visited for a week and it was just soooo relaxing. The weather was really hot, but there was a nice breeze, especially at the far end (by the Dhow Bar) so recommend you had off up there since it's quite a bit quieter and really laid back. Hotel was lovely, staff great, room really nice, and food brill. First tip: get a lilo and just while the days away out at sea in the sun to keep you cool (we tied a boy around our feet to stop us from floating into shore - everyone was doing it by the end of the holiday ha ha). Tip Two: You get 70hms (about £14) towards a meal at the specialist restaurants each. I originally thought this was per day, but its NOT - which means you could go to the Dhow Bar for lunch (really great food and you most likely wouldn't spend the £14 anyway since food around £10-£12) and then go to the Italian, Asian, or Brazilian and have another £14 in the evening. This could mean to be honest, that you might not actually spend a bean on eating out. Tip Three: Make sure you have the fillet mignon at the Brazilian - wow what a steak, and if you like it rare, ask for medium or it will come out mooooing at you on your plate. Absolutely brilliant steaks however, couldn't get any better.

Beach is beautiful by the way, lovely white sand though don't forget to walk to the sea in your flip flops because the sand gets VERY hot.

Definitely going back when passing through next time, since value for money-wise and relaxtion and standard of accommodation/food, it's great.

The hotel itself is very elegant, beautifully appointed and in my experience immaculately clean. I travelled with my husband who was on business (actually we're still here), and the salt water pool, beach, and public areas are all top class. Our room was beautiful with a lovely terrace, Crabtree and Evelyn toiletries, and on the whole the staff are to be praised.

I've had a couple of treatments in the spa and they were excellent - especially the oriental (Alana was the therapist) - and as someone who uses spas in international hotels on a regular basis, it's certainly amongst the best.

Clearly it is very new and so yes, there are a few teething problems that to some extent I think have to be expected. My main disappointment is that there are just not enough places within the complex to eat. There are people here who are on holiday, and frankly we've only been here four days and we've already more than exhausted the dining options on offer. As you're a drive away from the nucleus of the town, you are quite reliant upon the hotel for dining.

The Italian is quite good (I wouldn't say five star really), the buffet restaurant also has an al a carte menu. My meal again was ok, but my husband (who is not finicky) wasn't too keen on his. It seems that the main seafood restuarant is closed (perhaps because it's low season?)

In terms of comparing this with Dubai, well frankly it depends what you want out of a stay. I know Dubai quite well and will be heading there tomorrow for a few days business, (and have grown to dislike it the more blinged up it's become), and certainly in the cooler months this end of the UAE is far preferable in terms of places to visit and adventures to have. Obviously, this is limted in the middle of the summer and in all honesty I can't imagine why you would holiday in this part of the world at this time of the year anyway!

One thing I have to mention is that some of the All Inclusive guests are really quite rude and crass. Not least two German men who thought nothing of stripping naked in the middle of the pool area, to change their swimming attire, regardless as to the fact that there were children and a Moslem family in the area. I was utterly shocked and disgusted at this - it would be bad enough around a UK pool area, but for goodness sake, in an Islamic country????? Do people have no respect or sensitivity for the culture of others? So beware, that may well be a problem if it is being promoted to the mass holiday market.

My husband and I stayed in a King Deluxe Room and it was lovely. Modern, clean and a perfect size for the two of us.

Considering it was a Friday, we were allowed to check in two hours before we should of which was nice as normally they make you wait.

Location was perfect, right on the beach, away from the city. Only problem was the signage to the Hotel from Dubai, in that there wasn’t any! Luckily our Sat Nav had the road name but not the hotel so we worked it out.

For the size of the hotel and it being a five star hotel there was a poor selection of lunch offers. You could either have sushi which was a 'restaurant' just off the lobby, cafe in the lobby, buffet which isn’t suited to all especially if you wanted something light for lunch and room service which we opted for. The food was edible but NOT 5 star quality.

Pools were amazing and scenery stunning. Advice for the Hotel would be to offer waiter service at your sun lounger. Having to swim to the bar each time you want a drink can be a tad annoying especially when you have to trawl through drunken people by the pool bar.

Italian Restaurant - nothing special. Location is poor in that it is just off the main reception. No atmosphere, dark, food was pretty poor and the tiramisu was disastrous! Shame the Asian restaurant was closed – not sure why!

Would we visit again? Yes, you can get some great rates including breakfast which was amazing but we’ll go when the Asian restaurant reopens.
