Hilton Ras Al Khaimah Resort & Spa
Ranked #3 of 27 Hotels in Ras Al Khaimah
Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed April 7, 2009

We have just come back from a 7 day all inclusive stay at the new Hilton Resort and Spa Hotel in Ras al Khaimah (28th March - 4th April 2009). We have two young boys and we had arranged everything via Virgin Holidays. Before leaving, we were very anxious regarding whether the hotel was properly finished and whether there would be excessive noise from the wing which is still under construction. We were pleasantly surprised. The wing which we stayed in (on the right side of the lobby) was complete; we were on the same level as the lobby. No noise from any drills etc. The other half of the hotel is having internal building work done and is not complete at all. However, this had remarkably little impact on our stay. The outside pools etc are all complete as is the kids pool and swings/slides etc (see photos). We went all inclusive; I would definately recommend this. Ras al Khaimah is a small, sleepy place. There are few good restaurants that we could find and particularly with two young kids, we were very happy to have our meals in the hotel. The Maarid restaurant is where the vast majority of guests have their meals. This serves a buffet with a large variety of dishes; the menu changes on a daily basis. On the whole, the food is very good; as with any buffet you tend to find a few good dishes for every meal.

The staff are excellent. Very polite, welcoming and they make you feel right at home. Nothing is too much trouble. Always very helpful. Small things were really touching. Our departure was early on Saturday morning (04:15 am). Clearly this is too early for breakfast. We were provided with a small selection of croissants, tea/coffee, fruit etc without us asking. Just shows that the staff were thinking of us.

ONE BIG TIP REGARDING TAXIS: There is a private tour company, RAK & Sun who have a desk outside the main lobby entrance with at least one chap who is constantly present. They will happily arrange a car to take you wherever you wish (Dubai for example). They also arrange tours etc. These are not metered Ras al Khaimah taxis. There is almost certainly some deal between the hotel management and this company. When we asked the main loby staff to get us a taxi, they were going to arrange a car with this company rather than get an official Ras al Khaimah cab. This is of great relevance as a metered taxi is significantly cheaper than these private cars. For example, a single trip to the Al Manar mall cost us 15 dirhams with RAK & Sun and 7.5 dirhams on the way back with a metered taxi. This may be insignificant for local journeys but becomes important if you want to go to Dubai. We asked RAK & Sun about a private car to Dubai and were quoted a price of 200 Dirhams one way. We went with a metered official Ras al Khaimah taxi who picked us up at 13:00 hrs, dropped us back at the hotel at 22:00 hours; this also included 3 hours that the taxi driver waited for us whilst we went around Dubai mall and also included journeys within Dubai to and from the meena bazaar. For all this we paid a total of 360 Dirhams. The telephone number for one of the government owned taxi companies (Al Hamra) is [--]. Also, our taxi driver, Sabir's mobile number is [--]. The other taxi deiver that we used carries a mobile telephone [--]. These taxis will always turn on the meter and this is your assurance that you are not being fleeced. Also, the security guy who sits on the main hotel entrance and mans a barrier will not let these taxis in unless you tell him that you have called the cab. Further evidence to us that there is a bit of a racket going on.

Otherwise the hotel is great. We would have no problems in recommending it.

We went to this hotel and were promised a completed resort, saddly it wasn't. Bars, restaurants, childrens pool, out door toilets, shops not completed. The hotel had been rushed into completion with out correct qualitity control. Therefore, alot of workman doing remedial works, these should be completed in the next few weeks. But the Al Bahar restaurant, indoor childrens area and 50% of the room are a good way from completion.

The all inclusive drinks package is not ALL drinks as you are given a list by the hotel of what you can have ,this did not include draft beers or many premier brands of spirits.

Be carefull the cost of the watersports and diving is high. Diving is double the cost I have paid anywhere else in the world.

This will be a very good resort when it is completed and we would then recommend it.

This hotel will be good when finished, but can assure you it is far from finished, building rubble around, painting banging chipping grinding, painting, plus bar and restuarant not finish nor is the shopping malls . There was no public toilets except in the resturant. The childrens swing area was full of sand with brick rubbish in it. Would recommend it when finished but do not pay full price at the moment

I stayed here for one night because I wanted to dive in Ras Al Khaimah. Although Arabian Divers is building a center at the Hilton Resort, it moors its boat at the city center Hilton by the creak so you get to lie in a bit longer by staying here as opposed to the resort.

Upon check in I was told that they had no record of my reservation (booked via Expedia) and that the hotel was full. After producing my confirmation and waiting ten minutes they managed to find me a room. Other than that little niggle, the service was wonderful. Meal service in the coffee shop is lightning fast and the food is good and prices fair.

The decor of the hotel is very 1970s and the number of ashtrays sprinkled about the place and guests (mostly German) puffing away adds to a flashback of tha era, but it's not distrubing to non smokers. There is building work going on next door to the hotel but I wasn't distrurbed by the noise.

My room was spacious, clean and quiet. Bathroom has older fixtures but everything worked fine. They did have some problems with the airconditioning in the lobby and coffee shop but not to the point that it ever became uncomfortably hot. Cable Internet (70 dirhams) is blazingly fast.

This isn't a hotel or town that has a lot of local color so I wouldn't spend my holidays here, but it was fine for my purposes and the place made me feel very relaxed.

We stayed in the beginning of march 2009 in this new Hilton property, exceeding our expectations, we returned completly relaxed.
We had a room in the just opened Hotel by the beach (not villas) with a great view. Staying 10 days seemed like 1.
This unique property has great restaurants, service & to my personal surprise a huge salt water pool, besides the other normal pools.
The rooms are modern & spaciouse just like the whole property itself.

My husband and I will def. return next year and we hope to meet the familiar friendly faces of the staff again.

We stayed at the new Hilton from 14th-20 march. Not knowing what to expect after some negative reviews, we were pleasantly surprised with what we found.
All the pools finished and water very clean, gardens ablaze with petunias and all outside lighting in place.
Reception very clean ,modern and beautifully furnished.
Downstairs dining room . Very spacious, leading out onto terrace where you could eat also. Curved counters held a vast variety of foods with hot dishes contained in covered containers. We found the meals excellent both in quantity and quality. Must mention the lovely dining room staff here. Nothing was too much trouble for them and they soon made us feel like one of the family.
On to our room on the 2nd floor. We had booked a deluxe with sea-view room . It was most spacious with 2 double beds, which were very comfy with bouncy pillows. plenty of cupboard and wardrobe space, sofa and chairs and a big TV The bathroom was something else twin bowls large walk in shower bath, bidet and toilet also a blind that went up and down at the touch of a switch - even a digital scale high class toiletries were replaced each day along with new fluffy towels. I even got flowers and chocolates arranged on the bed some nights. They know how to spoil a girl.
Now if you are thinking that this is too good to be true here is what we found lacking ,
Some people were not so lucky with their room. One person had to vacate after finding the bath and shower leaked after use. Others next to where the kids pool was being built had noise during the night ( they work round the clock there) we only heard the odd noises.
There was a distinct lack of finished toilets one was open near the dining room but ones in reception were not ready. Some rooms off this area were empty shells, and by our estimation it will take the best part of this year to finish everything.Outside a further toilet block was unfinished also a restaurant. There are two beach bars and a further restaurant and toilets open just a short walk along the beach.
Our verdict is we enjoyed the facilities that were finished , and had a good holiday.
