“Peaceful Ambiance”
Reviewed November 13, 2008

This resort is lovely set 1hr 15mins outside of Dubai, its rooms are in blocks of 4, and are extremly spacious, ours had 2 large doubles, 2 lounge chairs and table, chest of drawers, dressing table, tea and coffee facilities, mini bar, veranda/balcony, area for styling hair, large bathroom with double basins, bath and seperate shower. It had good lighting in the bathroom and a magnifying mirror, great products and a bidet too. All the facilities worked really well, ie flushes, showers, taps etc, their plugs are the same as ours 3 pin. There were also two large wardrobes.
The resort is set around a half moon shaped beach which is very clean, and the waters calm, with a sandy bottom, no sea weed or rocks, there are comfortable loungers and umbrellas and a great beach bar and restaurant. The evening meals are served in the Waterfront Restaurant and are buffet, but are of a high quality compared to some buffets we have experienced. The Staff were superb and bent over backwards to please, the management were also very visible and gracious.
The only bads points I can think of were I got seriously bitten by mosquitos, one night, before I bought some spray from the hotel shop. The pillows on the beds are quite hard and uncomfortable.
The drive back to the airport will take you much longer than it took to get too the hotel, due to Dubai's traffic problem, but Virgin who we flew with, make sure you are picked up well inadvance because of this problem.

  • Liked — The size of the rooms and the fact they had thought of everything.
  • Disliked — The hard pillows

Just returned from an 8 night stay here. 4 adults/3 children. It was great for all of us, very relaxing, clean, superb food and service.
We were a bit put off by the photos of the hotel on the internet, as it's rather ugly but we all fell in love with it. We really couldn't fault it and we're fussy travellers!
The beach shuttle bus was easy and frequent and became part of the daily adventure. The beach resort is beautiful and also clean, excellent service and great food too.
The children really enjoyed it down here as the brach was pristine, water clear and a choice of 2 large lovely pools also spotless. When you were down there you could have been in the carribean, though the palm trees are still only babies as it's very new. Yes they are building a large hotel down at the beach (which I'm sure will be superb) but it is far enough away from the beach to not hear or see anything.
We will all definately go back when we have saved up!

I've set out my review starting with comments about the hotel and surrounding area and finished with some general tips/information about visiting RAK & Duabi. In the past Tripadvisor reviews have provided me useful 'insider' information about various countries, not just the hotel, and I'd like to return the favour.

Pros:
- The price was good. I went with my girlfriend for 2 weeks all inclusive and we paid £1,000 each. This price was largely because September is Ramadan and is the UAE in general is quieter. Overall the impact of Ramadan on our holiday was minimal (see below for more details).
- The staff are fantastic! Their command of a number of languages is impressive and you are always greeted warmly and rarely kept waiting. They make an effort to remember your name, room number and where you like to sit in the restaurant. The cleaning staff are also excellent and I couldn't fault any aspect of how our room had been cleaned. If you receive consistent, good service then please tip at the end of your stay.
- The food and drink is of a high standard. Personally I'm not a big fan of all inclusive buffets but was impressed by the quality and choice. The all inclusive booze is branded and it was so nice to wander to the pool bar and be able to choose a wide variety of soft drinks. They run a great system whereby you can use your daily all inclusive meal allowance (60 Dirhams) in the other restaurants giving you even more choice. The Beach bar in particular offers a good burger or club sandwich for just over 60 Dirhams. The Hoof and Fin restaurant is very nice but your meal allowance doesn’t go far and you’ll end up paying an equivalent price to a restaurant in the UK. I would recommend upgrading to all inclusive for a number of reasons: you will get through a lot of soft drinks during the day; there aren’t many places to eat out in RAK; I’m sure it works out to be a lot cheaper.
- The hotel is a fairly unattractive concrete block but then again this is in keeping with most of RAK. The room was comfortable and perfectly acceptable (especially for the price) and you’ll receive complimentary water and toiletries each day. For those who have stayed in Hiltons be prepared for the fact that this hotel is not as luxurious as previous experiences; we overheard a few unhappy people who had high expectations given that they were staying at a Hilton. I would compare this hotel to a top of the range Holiday Inn, offering good value especially if you choose the all inclusive option. There is a very nice pool and a small gym which we didn’t use but looked well stocked.
- This Hilton actually consists of 2 sites: this hotel and the beach resort (has its own section in Tripadvisor). You can travel between the 2 sites using a regular shuttle service. The beach is lovely, the sea felt like a warm bath and we didn’t have a problem getting beds under an umbrella (although weekends are busier due to an influx of locals). Towels are provided and the resort has its own buffet/restaurant and beach bar. Prepared to be jealous of the people staying in the beach villas! They look lovely and are probably closer to a true ‘Hilton experience’, albeit at a true Hilton price! We really liked the fact that you could choose between relaxing at the hotel pool or the beach.

Cons:
- There really isn’t a lot to do in RAK! Also don’t be fooled into thinking that RAK is next door to Dubai, the journey is in fact an hour and a half each way. On the whole this Emirate resembles a dusty building site, which is fine if you’ve just come to relax on a resort holiday. If you’re a bit more adventurous then I recommend hiring a car (see section below for details). The hotel offers a free shuttle service to the local mall which is fairly boring and I guarantee you’ll be bored before the collection time.
- While most of the staff were excellent I found the reception staff to be polite but useless. Initially they didn’t have a key for our room and claimed that the manager would be able to retrieve it the next day; eventually they decided that it was lost and we had to move all our stuff to another room. Also don’t expect them to ever have half hour Internet cards or change for large notes. If you want to use the Internet go to the beach resort as the free email computer let us access the rest of the Internet free of charge.
- The hotel offers a free coach service to Dubai, which is surely a good thing? Alas no, the problems are that you’re only allowed to use it once for free during your stay and it doesn’t stay in Dubai long enough. By the time you get there it’s nearly 11am and it leaves at 5 sharp. Given that it takes ages to get anywhere in Dubai means you have very little time to do anything (be careful with your timings if you choose to do the bus tour). If you’re going to do some of the sights in Dubai then I’d recommend hiring a car or getting a driver for day (should be a reasonable £75).
- There is a lot of building work next door to the hotel and the beach resort which isn’t very pleasing to the eye and means that the labourers sit on their breaks and stare at the ladies round the pool. However I was pleasantly surprised at the lack of noise and to be honest I didn’t notice it after a while. It’s certainly not as bad as you would expect and I don’t agree with some of the overly negative comments in previous reviews.

Overall we were happy with the hotel and the holiday. My only reservation is that there is very little to do in RAK so unless you’re planning a relaxing resort holiday, or hire a car, you’ll go stir crazy.

General Tips & information:
- We hired a car in second week which really made a positive difference. We used the Hertz desk in the hotel which is more expensive but less hassle and had the benefit that you could speak to a representative at any point. The car meant that we could go to the mall and the beach whenever we wanted and more importantly, it allowed us to visit Dubai and Musandam. The best thing: it cost £11 to fill the tank! Driving in the UAE is interesting and if you’re going to do it then buy a small map from the local supermarket because the street signs are fairly useless (even in Dubai). In RAK we had a number of maps from various sources are none of them were particularly accurate; if you stop to ask directions then use building/place names, don’t bother with road names as the locals don’t use them and many roads don’t have names. Driving in Dubai isn’t as bad as people make out and I coped fine (bear in mind that I’ve never driven a left-hand drive before) but I’d certainly recommend driving in RAK for a few days before tackling Dubai. Overall the most frustrating thing was getting lost, so purchasing a map of Dubai is essential.
- An essential trip is Musandam which is a small sultanate of Oman. Here you will be able to go on a wonderful Dhow cruise, see dolphins and snorkel with tropical fish. You can either sign up with the hotel’s tour guide or do it yourself for half the price. We drove there not knowing what to expect and without booking anything. The drive is a simple, straight drive to the border followed by the visa process (admittedly a little intimidating). Once inside Musandam you follow the road all the way around until you see signs for the boat tours. As we were not with a tour our Dhow was practically empty bar 4 others and overall the cost was 250 Dirhams (which includes the car hire, extra insurance, visa costs). The only thing to watch out for is that many of the Dhows go out once a day, so get there before 1pm.
- Another recommended trip is the 4x4 safari which is great fun and offers great photo opportunities in the desert.
- Ever fancied a bit of shooting at the local shooting club? RAK has its own shooting club and the great news is that they’ll let anyone have a go! When we eventually found it (it’s near the golf course) we were given the option of the handgun or the rifle range. For the cost of a box of bullets (80 Dirhams) we had a great experience firing a Beretta at targets. Certainly recommended, even my girlfriend had a go!
- There’s a lot to see in Dubai but you’ll need to hire a car or get a driver if you want to see the major sights. We did both the Dhow cruise, which was very nice, and the bus tour which is good for seeing a lot of the city if you’re short on time. The gold souk is a must if you’re after jewellery you can easily spend an hour or so negotiating the best price for a piece of jewellery. My advice is that you should be looking to get the price to about 40% of their initial, quoted price. Is jewellery a bargain in the Gold Souk? Certainly! I bought my girlfriend a necklace for £320 and saw an equivalent piece in the UK for £750. We also went to Wild Wadi park which was good fun but over-priced for the limited number of rides available.
- The Burj Al Arab is iconic and certainly worth a visit if you want that extra special meal. We went to their evening buffet and were wowed by the whole experience. Total cost including a drink in the Sky Bar was £100 a head, but definitely worth it. For a little less you can do afternoon tea in the Sky Bar but from what we could see this just consisted of various courses of nibbles. Just standing outside watching the nice cars come in was interesting, needless to say my rubbish Chevrolet hire car did not turn heads!
- Ramadan. While this didn’t really affect us in the hotel it was more noticeable in Dubai as you’ll find it harder to get a cab, struggle to buy lunch and get stuck in more traffic in the afternoon. One thing that you soon notice is that Dubai wants to welcome tourists as warmly as possible so Ramadam isn’t strictly enforced under certain conditions. If you’re on a Dhow Cruise or bus tour then drinks are freely available, if you go into Wild Wadi all restaurants are open as per normal and many shops (especially in Gold Souk) will offer you a sneaky drink in a back room.
- Bugs. Don’t worry about them. We didn’t use any spray and did not get bit once.

We stayed at the Hilton resort and spa 29th Sep to 14th Oct We had a shakey start , we booked with value added travel and was not overly impressed with their customer service prior to going, but things got worse at the airport going they had not put our 3 year old down as a child so we almost had to have separate seats on the plane as a result of this both going and coming back it was only when I kicked up a fuss with the airlines that we eventually got seats together. Our requests for a down stairs villa was also not passed onto the hotel so in the early hours of the morning we had to sort this out when we were taken to an upstairs villa! Will not be booking with VAT again !

The Resort and Spa was very nice, could not fault the room very spacious and comfortable ~ they have a dvd player in so take along some dvd's as night life pretty none existant, which wasn't a problem for us but others may find it so.

Food great, always plenty of choice on the buffet , however I was a little concerned with the temperatures they were holding food at ! I did mention this to Bernard and the temperatures were raised.

Staff very friendly indeed, when we arrived it was the end of Ramadam so the place was heaving with locals but after about 3 days it quietened down !

Now for the negatives ! We have visited Dubai before and I must say the luxuries of cold towels and attendants coming round with portins of fruit was kinda missed you don't get any pampering at all here, to a lot of people who have not experienced this pampering you donb't know any difference but you do get at 5 star hotels who pamper more that this resort.

The grounds are not overly pretty I think more could be done with the lanscaping , which I think they were possibly on with before we left. Some areas were a little overgrown. Sun beds were a bit tatty and dirty looking and another concern was a worker cleaning the black off the swimming pool but all the dirt was going into the swimming pool !! We did enjoy our stay but don't think we would go back, you cannot help compare hotels and in our eyes this Hotel didn't compare to the standards we have had in other hotels

So after a shakey start we did enjoy our holiday

we stayed at the creek hotel, on a half board basis. We landed at 7am and they had sent a car to meet us at the airport, the guy was waiting outside.

We were at the hotel by 9:30am, assumed as check in is after 2pm we would need to wait for our room, but were given one immediately we arrived.

Rooms have 2 queen size beds, plenty of room. They were cleaned thoroughly each day. Good size bathroom.

The food was great, buffet style for both breakfast and dinner. Don't go thinking there will be lots of restaurants to eat in because there aren't - it is mainly the hotels. I'm so glad we decided to go half board, or we would have been a bit stuck.

Nothing was too much trouble for the staff. They went out of their way to make your stay as pleasant as possible. The pool area is very quiet, loads of sun beds/towels.

There is a shuttle bus to the beach resort. we were so pleased we didn't stay they, was a bit down market compared to the hotel.

As for RAK - well there is nothing there and i mean virtually nothing. There is a new mall, not far from the hotel, but entertained us for about 30 mins, we included a Starbucks coffee. We went down on the evening shuttle bus to the mall, but decided we couldn't wait the 2 hours for it to collect us, so got a taxi back, which cost about 60p. Near the mall there are a few fast food places.

There is a guy that organises trips in the lobby. we booked a car for the day to take us into Dubai, which cost £75. This was fantastic, the driver was brilliant took us where we wanted, we decided how long at each place. well worth it.

There is an awful lot of building work everywhere in Dubai. There is some very close to the hotel and the beach resort, but it didn't interfer, which i was really surprised about. When i first saw it I didn't think the pool would be an option (as they are building an office block about 30 feet away from it), but hardly any noise and no dust what so ever.

The people in UAE were so friendly. The weather was fantastic about 37/38 every day.

Overall we had a great time, but don't think we'd go back.

We were guests of Hilton RAK from 8th till 15th of October 2008 and we would like to thank team for their care of us.
We absolutely enjoyed our stay in UAE in RAK and pay mainly F+B and FO teams compliments. Above all cooks, Mr. Amr from reception and Mrs. Minerva from the main restaurant. They exercise their work excellently, amazing, professionally
and they grasped to make our stay comfortable. What we are able to appreciate because we have been engaged in hotel-business for 6 and 11 years. All our hotels-managers in Czech republic could envy these your colleagues.

Many thanks for everything and we look forward to next visit in hotel Hilton RAK.

We have just returned from our second visit to this Hotel, and once again we had a great time, the staff just cant do enough for you, we loved the beds , they were so comfy.
We didnt hear any noise from the building work going on near by. food was great, plenty of choice, and if you wanted something e
se they would make it for you, and bernard is going to be back at the resturant soon so he will make your stay even more special.
there is music most nights and occasional bellydance show, just outside the hotel there is a disco, and a lebenese restaurant

I would recommend going all inclusive, excellent choice of Premium drinks ,cocktails, and Amstell lager. Lovely coffee, and hot chocolate in white china teapots.
We were also all inclusive at the hilton resort and spa, wonderful beach, sun loungers with thick mattresses, and they even put your towel on the beds for you, bring your drinks ice cold to your lounger, clean beach, water very warm, pools a bit cooler,

I recommend this hotel if you want to try U.A.E without paying Dubai prices, personally I wouldnt stay in Dubai as its to busy, its ok to visit, but to much traffic for me,

hope this report helps, we booked with Valueadded travel, and had a good deal.
