Bin Majid Mangrove

Even though Mangrove is a 4 star hotel, the rooms, service, food, sheesha was all of 5 star standards. From the outside its just a simple building situated on a road opposite the creek & flanked by very regular looking shops, grocery & sheesha cafes. You would be looking forward to a very average stay because it doesn't really give u the feel of having a luxurious experience, but it only gets better once you have stepped in.
The staff is very accommodating and friendly, cozy ambiance, we got early check in and a late check out (on request) even during a busy season. The rooms were BEAUTIFUL...and if a 'Standard Room' was sooo stunning & spacious, I can only imagine the facilities of a delux room.
next morning we got to enjoy a wide array of scrumptious breakfast, absolutely delicious and the sheesha at the hotel was simply AMAZINGGGG!! ( for 40 bucks its even worth the 1hr drive from Dubai) moreover the restaurant manager handed us some 25% off coupons which made it even more worth it....
The only disappointment was the swimming pool, which is quite small, but the huge TV in the room kind of compensates and u still get to experience your lazy, cozy noon.
In all, 2 thumbs up for Mangrove Hotel... Wouldn't mind paying even a little more than what we did. Total value for money

The ambience is elegant with high-backed chairs and earthy color scheme, unlike the traditional blue-and-white rice pattern we are accustomed to (with those white plastic table cloths) at the take-aways and smaller establishments.

The entree and appetizer plates are a unique, modern style in bright white china with geometric lines and cutlery in thick, stainless steel, very retro.

The menu is unlike the traditional one we are accustomed to and offers a vast array of toufu, seafood, lamb, (pork - shhhh - as conveyed via whispers from the waiter), chicken and beef - grilled, baked, breaded, fried, in various interesting marinades and sauces. Soups include a variety beyond the usual wonton and sweet and sour (e.g., asparagus and corn chowder). I'd like to have tasted a little more ginger and garlic in my dishes but like back home, perhaps they think Westerners prefer the bland version. I'm sure the chef would comply with any special requests. Nothing was oily, salty or overcooked. I did not taste MSG. The "kimchi" type appetizer was divine and brought us another portion upon request at no extra charge, and diminutive sized whole wheat buns resembling baozi but made of wheat, not rice flour, fresh out of the oven, served with butter. Service is excellent. Entree portions are large. Also there is a palatable choice of desserts - trio cointreau mousse and the usual Chinese baked bananas with dollop of vanilla ice cream, etc.

They serve alcohol and there are also two bars in the hotel - the Polo Club (10 pm - 2 am - after hours club?) and the Blue Bar. The jasmine tea was served in a flat "pancake shaped" vermillion and white floral patterned pot like the traditional "gung fu" pots with the traditional Chinese demi-tasse cup (no handle). I loved the black granite-type chopsticks with silver trim and silver kuai-zi rest. Not wood or plastic anywhere!

Soups are in the 20s and entrees 40s and above. The appetizers and buns are a gratis. It's a pleasant experience.
