Cove Rotana Resort Ras Al Khaimah

Reviewed August 3, 2009

I have just returned from a long weekend at the Cove Rotana. Flew out from London Thursday night and got to the hotel mid morning on the friday.

First impressions, hotel is 80km plus outside of Dubai (but we had a private transfer so was a very easy drive) Hotel lobby and communal areas were all very clean and well airconditioned.

We stayed in one of the lagoon villas which was brilliant. 2 minutes walk to the beach and very close to the pool so could choose where to swim. Villa was perfect as it had a small kitchen area to make tea and coffee etc. We had a lovely terrace area in which to sit out and look over the lagoon towards the sea. Very quiet and relaxing.

Food in the resturant although i did not go the Basilico but the Cinnamon resturant was excellent, lots of choice for a buffet and fresh food added all the time.

Staff were all incredibly friendly and polite and nothing was too much trouble.

The pools were both lovely as was the beach. I had a massage on the beach which i highly reccomend.

All in all, i would definately go back for a long weekend or 4-5 days.

However if you are looking for lots of nightlife and shopping i would recommend Dubai itself as this is brilliant but for a more laid back trip

Going there for a weekend getaway with ''Madam'' we have been impressed by the attention to detail and guest recognition shown by the staff. No need to mention about the amazing location, a pure dreamland from the rooms to the facilities. Thought room service could have take a while due to the fact that all the rooms and villas are being spread around an extensive complex but all came on time with the right service and attitude. Buggys to travel you around the place help as well getting familiar with the resort. Didin't hear a single 'no'' of the entire stay, everybody there is so helpful. Bed are very confortable and the entire athmosphere super quiet. The perfect place to enjoy a peaceful weekend and change your mind ... should you have the chance to spend an entire week, no worries there is plenty to do there as well with every day a ''leisure activity'' program. Could also notice a kids club, and tried the water sports activities that are not over priced at all. The value for money can't be beaten ...

Amazing view, nice clean room, friendly staffs except for one rude driver of a minivan that drove us to the beach at 7AM, but over all I was happy we stayed there and we will definitely comeback, it is a great place for couples and small families.

very good remake of Santorini, especially individual rooms area. rooms enjoy a better high sea view than villas. food is very good in Basilico, poor in Cinamon. pool area are the main draw back!! very nice setting, but the finishes are very poor. slippery and cracked tile at pool deck! plastic grass that gets heated up! fake plastic mosaic sheets for the pool! uncovered kids's pool! pools not cooled in summer! cheap looking pool pumps! it is apparent that the architect who did it lacked experinece in doing 5-star hotels! aslo the resort lacks a charming cafe street remnant of santorini, instead of badly located aracade

I've spent 5 days in this great hotel with my husband and our 18 month old son.
The service was amazing, which is not a rule in 4 and 5 stars hotels in UAE.
The room wasn't huge however it had a beautiful balcony overlooking the ocean, where we could have our breakfast or late dinner (the room service was really quick).
The food was excellent.
There were 2 swimming pools, also separate ones for kids.
As the resort is quite big, and is located on the hill it may take a few minutes to get to the beach. However those of you who do not like walking, it is possible to arrange for the complimentary buggy service that shall take you directly to the beach.
As the resort was still improving its services, there was no bar at the beach and no water sports. However, as we were told they are working on this (so maybe at the time you're there, everything will be already there).

There was amazing Kids Club, where the hotel staff was really looking after kids and playing with them.

I must admit that the hotel manager, who if I remember well is Dutch, is really doing a great job all the time improving the hotel's services

So if you're visiting UAE, and do not want to be in noisy Dubai -- Cove Rotana in Ras El Khaimah is a great place to rest.

The design of the resort is stunning. We went for a weekend with my husband's grandparents, and were happy to find out when booking that golf carts were the method of transportation within the resort and they wouldn't have to walk too far. But actually getting a gold cart to your room could take up to 40 minutes, and that was after 3 calls to the concierge!!

The resort itself was very pretty. We stayed in a villa with a private pool, which was very spacious and perfect for a large family. The pool wasn't very clean the first day we were there, but it was then cleaned the 2nd day and was quite enjoyable. The beach was nice, and quiet. The 2 swimming pools were large, and clean. The restaurants were good and the lounge were very comfortable. The relaxation area with a hot tub, sauna and steam room was well done and has a ladies only 2 hour slot every day.

As this is still a very new hotel, they should work out the kinks in the coming months. I will return with that hope.

Have just returned from the Cove Rotana after a six day break.
We were fortunate to recognise our names on a greeting board 100 metres before the exit to the airport. We were asked to take a seat in the C.R. office where six other guests waited for the private transfer to the resort. Two of the guests had waited 2 hours as the C.R. Personnell were attempting to co-0rdinate 4 flights, arriving at different times, in order to fit them all on the private transfer minibus. Not the best start to a holiday after a long flight. Apparently this was controlled by the resort Concierge who needs a week or so retraining in our opinion.

Apart from the above, we could not fault the rest of our stay. This resort is probably not as 5 star as the main Dubai hotels, but the service is excellent, the food fresh and abundant in quantity and variety.
Rooms are clean, cool and everything is new. The bed was the most comfortable we have experienced in any hotel. There are coffee and tea making facilities as well as a fridge for your own use.
The Beach is a beach, very natural and the water is quite shallow as you can walk out quite a way and still be touching the sand below. There is a peculier smell that blows on the wind,( No not from my partner), some days and we believe the management are investigating same, although not sure what can be done about it.
There are quite a lot of steps up and down the resort which could be aproblem for people with limited mobility but there are plenty of buggies and vans available to take you on the most shortest of trips around the resort.
The evenings are spent with a meal and drinks as there is no entertainment of any kind on the complex. Maybe improvements could be made in this department.
On the whole this is a great resort for a short holiday, ( 7 days is ideal), The people who work here are a team trained to make your stay as enjoyable as possible,Without being over the top,( Concierge needs to raise his game to keep up with the others). If you require anything they will make sure it is available to you.
Your holiday starts with the flight and I would like to say that was more than satisfactory flying with Emirates.
Everyone has a different take on what a good holiday consists of, but I can only say we are attempting to make this a regular annual occurence as long as the costs don't escalate too much.
