This fort has been rebuilt and it’s fascinating to see how they did it in film and by looking around you. Very interesting exhibition of photos made by British explorer Sir Wilfred Thesiger. We parked at the Al Jahili park entrance and it was a lovely walk through, amazing birds everywhere. Really recommend a visit here.

Funny place with funny parking policy and security. One of these places where there is plenty of space, but were security takes his role very or too serious. We spend there 15 minutes, but I was guided to a parking lot in the other side of the road were coffee sheds are, despite having plenty of spaces including some in front of the fort ....unfortunately they are for staff....please review your customer happiness approach!

We wandered all over Al Ain and were pleased by the couple of forts we found, then we stumbled on this one. Like the others it has been restored and it looks great. We particularly liked the setting with the large surrounding gardens. It’s the one to visit.

The Al Jahili Fort counts among the top attractions of Al Ain. It is obviously a key part of of local and Emirati history.

The fort was built in 1891 to protect the Oasis and its date palms, a prized asset at the time. It has been neatly restored, and is worth a quick visit, along with a stroll in the park behind it. An ice cream there is probably not a bad idea either.. :)

There is not much to do or see other than the structure itself, though, and if you are looking for really impressive old forts and castles, I recommend the other side of the Oman border.

If you are in Al Ain, though, then no doubt that this should be on you to-do-list.

Since I am here in UAE, I was searching for history. And here I found it. While visiting the fort you will get an image of the history of the nation. Free entrance.
