The Al Jahili Fort counts among the top attractions of Al Ain. It is obviously a key part of of local and Emirati history.
The fort was built in 1891 to protect the Oasis and its date palms, a prized asset at the time. It has been neatly restored, and is worth a quick visit, along with a stroll in the park behind it. An ice cream there is probably not a bad idea either.. :)
There is not much to do or see other than the structure itself, though, and if you are looking for really impressive old forts and castles, I recommend the other side of the Oman border.
If you are in Al Ain, though, then no doubt that this should be on you to-do-list.More
