Kaspiy Hotel
Ranked #12 of 35 Dnipropetrovsk B&B and Inns
Reviewed March 25, 2013

I was in Dnipropetrovsk for business. Stayed in this hotel for three nights and promised 4 star hotel was a bit of a let down for me. Hotel looks a bit kitschy for my taste. Fake wood and outdated furniture if you are used to European standards. nevertheless its a sure thing to choose because the whole city has everything from worst to excellent and you may never know what to expect.

Hotel was overall quiet with nice beds. Morning breakfast was included but everything too greasy.

Other restaurants close to the hotel were surprisingly good. So eat out and you'll be fine. Price of a hotel is a bit too step fro what you get. Standard room is about 150 EUR per night and expect european standard 3 star or 2,5 star hotel. Also to sit on a toilet you need to be thin. There is not much room between toilet seat and a bath :) Hot water tends to run out in the mornings.

Hotel is located in the centre. Don't be surprised to find abandoned hose just across the street from the hotel. We walked around and it seems to be a common thing. This hotel would not be my first choice in any other city but in that environment it is a safe choice.

This is a strange hotel. It is tall and narrow, stuck between the two adjacent buildings, looks like it is being squeezed and pushed up towards the sky.
From outside nothing gives away that it is a hotel or that there is a restaurant too.
The surprise comes inside: a luxurious ambient of marble, paintings, rugs and quality furniture in the lobby and in the rooms. Nothing similar to other hotels of the same level and price.
Cleanness is very good.
Sleep quality is excellent.
Wi-fi is included in the room price.
Rooms are comfortable and there is also a 24h security man on service making it a safe place.
Location is good as located close to the main avenue and great for a walk downtown.
Definitely a good hotel for the business traveller.

However there is space for much improvement. The staff is mainly untrained and lacks a hotel culture. Besides the receptionist, no one else speaks English.
Breakfast is a bit of a disappointment: forget the buffet as there is none. You must order in advance the day before and decide your menu and time of breakfast. This certainly does not apply to a hotel of this category.
As for the restaurant I cannot comment not having dined there. It looks, however, a bit on the slow side as I have never seen many customers.
One other odd thing is that you must settle the complete bill in advance and pay extras upon leaving, strictly in cash. No charging for extras on the room bill. Quite odd, as I said it lacks hotel culture and this is a shame considering the nice ambient.
I also found some minor snags in the room (defective desk lamplight, safe with low battery, poorly lit bathroom).
My impression is that it is a nice hotel but no one is really interested to run it as it should be.

I have chose this hotel in the first place because it was listed as one of the best of the city in the Lonely Planet guide of Ukraine... Usually they are not wrong in their selection but this time I must say that I was extremely disappointed!!!
The overall "look" of the hotel is obsolete and needs for sure some re-styling...
I booked a studio on the 3rd floor which was big but poorly decorated.
No cable TV (only local!!!) and worst above all: the bathroom smelled of sewer!!!
I couldn't even take a bath because as soon as I tried to fill the bath tub I realised the water was... yellow!!!
Breakfast was also dispappointing. The staff in the restaurant is yet nice but do not speak English at all so it was very hard to make a proper order or understand the choices of plates (even in the evening for dinner)!
Well this was not as good as expected and for sure I will try to find something else in the future...

Room Tip: Bad smell in bathroom (sewer) and not good bedding! Do not choose this hotel!

The Kaspiy hotel in Dnepropetrovsk is indeed a hidden gem. I've been to Dnepr 4 times and have stayed at both the Kaspiy and at the Grand Ukraine. The Kaspiy is much newer, looks only a few years old. The location is great only a block from the Reporter restaurant and cafe and other shopping. One block off Karla Marksa. Staff is understated and professional. The english spoken at the front desk may not be as crisp as a larger hotel, not a concern at all really just speak a little slower and enjoy your host's professional demeanor. The hotel could not be cleaner. The rooms are furnished with fine rugs and paintings, well above standard hotel fare anywhere. The restaurant is just wonderful, wide variety of native Ukrainian food, not to be missed for dinner, so uncommon for those used to hotel food in the US. I asked for an iced tea, not a common request in Ukraine, after consultation with the restaurant staff and bar tender who were amused at why anyone would want cold tea, perhaps the best iced tea I have ever had was served up, garnished with mint. Just a great experience. Breakfast was included in my room, wide array of hot and cold dishes and an omelet cooked to order. Fine cappuccino was included as well. I had the hotel do some laundry for me during a two week stay, it was done in a couple of hours perfectly, a little pricy but for this level of service, no complaints. The top most floors may suffer from slightly low water pressure in the peak morning hours, small inconvenience. The rooms are very quiet. During my stay they did not exchange currency at the front desk. Again small inconvenience, an exchange shop is a block away, an ATM is located in the lobby. All in all I can't say enough good about the Kaspiy, you will not be disappointed.
