“Bring Your Cash”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 30, 2014

Excellent location if you are arriving late in Entebbe (or Kampala) or need to stay overnight before an early flight from Entebbe. Also a great location from which to take a short (half day) trip to the swamps to view the rare Shoebill Stork. The staff of this small hotel was very accomodating. We arrived about midnight, but they had waited up in case we wanted a late dinner (we did) or a drink (we did). They told us they always wait up as long as guests may need them.
The location felt very secure (walled, with a guard), the rooms were comfortable (no air conditioning, but the climate is moderate enough that fans make you comfortable), the pool area was attractive, and the food was very good.
One word of warning -- they only take cash, and there is no anytime teller on the premises, although there is one a short drive away. So, bring your cash, which is true many places in Uganda.

Dear Janet,
Thanks for taking the time to write a review, we appreciate your feedback. We are glad that you enjoyed your stay. We do mention in our emails the various payment options (such as by bank transfer etc), and there is a notice on the reception to remind people at the point of check-in. We are always happy to provide transport to a nearby ATM if people need to use a credit card.
Thanks, and best regards from everyone at the Boma.

We used the Boma for a night after arriving on a late flight and for a day room and dinner before getting on a 1am flight. In both cases it was ideal. A very nice place with good rooms and food. A very good atmosphere.

This is a lovely little guest house about 5 mins drive from Entebbe airport. It is within its own totally fenced compound and has a guard. It has lovely gardens at the front of the property and there are a few seating areas including a gazebo that you could take a book down and read there.
The Boma has a swimming pool with lounges and shade umbrellas as well 2 dining areas. Breaks fast is served near the pool area and for dinner you can eat there or at reception which look over the gardens. There is a plethora of bird life and every now and again the Boma dog walks thru the courtyard.
I ate breakfast and dinner there as part of my package. Drinks are well priced. Soft drinks 2000 shillings (approx 2400/$1USD), wine about 10000.
Dinner is a la carte. Breakfast is buffet.
I had the chicken salad to start followed by lasagne. The lasagne a little different to what I am used to but tasty all the same. They have a nice selection of ice creams for dessert .
I had a single room which had a king size 4 poster bed complete with mosquito nets. Beds are firm and comfortable. They do have twin rooms available. The room is spacious and fan cooled. En suite facilities include a shower and your own toilet. There is a tv with basic channels inc BBC World. They do have free wifi. I found it a bit slow in my room and my phones were only able to pick it up in public areas. However, this aside, there is wifi if you need it.
Special mention to Patrick on the front desk and Florence my waitress at dinner.

Hi,

Thank you for your detailed review; it is much appreciated! We are glad you enjoyed your stay. We are working to improve the strength of our wifi by adding more routers, so hopefully this should result in a more consistent signal across the compound.

Best regards from everyone at The Boma.

The Boma is a great choice if you are leaving / arriving from/to the Entebbe Airport. It is only a 10 minute drive from there and is also a short distance away from the Botanical Gardens and Lake Victoria. Rooms are nice; none have A/C but we found the fans to be adequate. The Boma's service was fantastic and their food was even better. Check out the great, little restaurant that overlooks the pool! The lawn and gardens are well maintained and attracts numerous birds enough to make the bird-lover a happy person. It is a short, 10 minute walk from the Boma to Anna's Corner for some good shopping for Ugandan / Conga arts and crafts and some good coffee.

We chose to stay a night in Entebbe as we were leaving on a flght leaving at 1am in the morning. We stayed the night before so that we had the day to relax before the flight. Most airport hotels are dreary and mostly used for wasting time before a flight. Not this one! The Boma is surrounded by a lush forest and the entire stay was positively luxurious. The pool was lovely and especially appreciated as we spent the afternoon lounging around waiting for our flight.

This hotel is wonderfully positioned to explore Entebbe from. I rented a bike for the day and cycled around the beaches and botanical gardens - Entebbe is very different from the chaotic centre of Kampala. It has wide roads (ideal for cycling) and lots of monkeys on the road sides which are very entertaining to watch.

Overall, an absolutely brilliant find and excellent end to our holiday. Strongly recommended. The owners were especially helpful and kind in my frantic stamp-buying and post card - sending rush just before we left for the airport! Thank you!

This is a quaint British-colonial property and the grounds are beautiful! I love the wood trim on the different buildings! It's so nice to get away from contemporary design. The furnishings, the décor, everything about this place says "British-colonial".

The staff is what really sets this place apart, though. I have never experienced this level of friendliness and warmth, from the staff or the owner. They have a cute dog that will follow you around, if you call him.

Truly a treat before heading off to rural northern Uganda. I will be back!

Room Tip: Room 1 has more privacy on the balcony, but I like the rooms that overlook the walkway.
