Reviewed October 27, 2013

Myself, my wife and four friends came back from our holiday at Casa De Maris today and I cannot recommend it highly enough. We were looking into booking again for next year whilst still there. I have summarised a few point below:-

Prior to Arrival
Prior to arrival I contacted the hotel to ask about Wi-fi (which is free) and diving centres in the area amongst other things and received a prompt reply from Anna in guest relations with answers to all my questions. We met Anna whilst there when she introduced herself and asked us how we were enjoying our holiday. She was very helpful and always smiling.

Arrival
The transfer from the airport to the hotel was very long at around 3 hours in total, though as others have said it is worth it. We booked through Monarch who in turn use Cosmos, we were on a full sized coach and were the last to be dropped off. One of our friends seems to recall we could have chosen a slightly more expensive transfer which may have resulted in us being put on a minibus. As such I would recommend taking this option.

Room
We were quickly booked in and shown to our room. The rooms are very spacious and modern, though a little limited on storage. Lighting is also a little low and as such my wife said she found it difficult applying make-up etc. As others have said the walk-in shower is great. We had a side room which overlooked some land occupied by chickens and as such a cockerel crowing in the early hours was a bit of a pain as I am a light sleeper. Earplugs sorted the problem so might be worth picking some up, either that or an air gun!!! The rooms were always kept extremely clean and the cleaners we met were always very polite and helpful.

Food
The food was excellent. We have stayed at a number of large complexes in the past and were worried the food might have been limited. We could not have been more wrong. There was lots if choice and it was always delicious. The chefs work really hard and do an excellent job. The head chef, I think his name was Mustafa was also really friendly.

Service
Service was also very good and always with a smile. Mahmet (I think that was his name) was particularly good and always helped find us a table for 6.

Pool and Beach
The pool area was very good and clean and as some have said sun beds were limited but there were always beds on the beach. As we wanted 6 beds together by the pool we did tend to get up early to get them but then we have always had to do this when holidaying with a group of people.

The beds were a little uncomfortable and if anyone from the hotel is reading this I would recommend getting some cushions.

The beach is not very big but it is big enough and clean.

Location
The location of the hotel is ideal with a short walk along the promenade to either Marmaris centre and the harbour in one direction or to Iclemer in the other.

Services
The hotel has a shop, jewellers, a small gift shop, a photographer and a leather display (shop in Marmaris and someone calls in occasionally). Tahir and Nesli from the Selma Jewellers, Yasha, the shop owner and part owner of the hotel and Suet, the photographer, were very friendly and always laughing and joking and would regularly join us when we were having a drink. The jewellers were very good value and all off us bought a number of items from them whilst there, my wife would have liked to have bought a lot more.

The Turkish people and in particular the hotel staff are really friendly and I feel this, along with a good hotel and location really make for a good holiday and we can't wait to go back again.

Stayed here October 2013 for two weeks. Some very good points some bad.

Reception - Service very poor here at check-in. Receptionist seemed to think it was a chore to check us in. Heard many stories of people requesting full sea view yet not receiving it. Seems like this was the Hotels policy! Paying 25 Euros for a safe in a 5 star hotel also unacceptable. We also ordered a take away breakfast for an early start mid week yet this never materialised and we were told that we hadn't booked it.

Room - Initial thoughts were that it was small, yet this didn't prove to be a problem. Room was clean and provided everything you need for a holiday. Bed was super comfortable as were the two plump pillows on each side. The shower is amazing, and the sink in the bathroom although initially we thought was strange was actually quite practical. Storage space adequate although some drawers would have been useful. Re-stocking of the water in the mini bar was somewhat sporadic, often not getting it. Cleaning of the room OK although we had to ask for the sheet to be changed after a newspaper print stayed on it for three days. Fresh towels every day. Some signs of damp in the corners, wouldn't expect this in a five star but it certainly didn't effect our holiday. The view (partial sea view) was stunning. The cockerel was on our side of the hotel and to be honest didn't really bother us.

Dining

Food was plentiful with always plenty to choose from. Soups were very tasty. Breakfast was a little repetitive, but thats fairly standard for hotels. We tended to sit in the same area, served by the same waiting staff and they were always SUPER efficient with drinks and clearing tables. Had some banter with some of the other waiters too and they were all very very friendly.

Bars

Service around the bars was excellent. Most of out first week was spent at the pool bar with superb service and friendly chat from Enes. Shinazi made awesome cocktails and again very friendly. Emre (Our adopted SON) is a very nice young man and his banter and service was great. Special mention must go to Emir "Georgeous, Dangerous, Funny Guy, Lady Killer" who really made it for us in the lack of the animation team (see below)! Service on the beach is awesome with drinks being brought to you pretty much on demand.

Animation Team

Well that is lack of animation team, This was the biggest let down of this hotel. Our first night they were racing dressed up chairs. Yes it was as stupid as it sounds!!! The animation manager never once acknowledged a smile and we found him to be very rude. It seemed that he would only talk to what we called "Bar street candidates". That is young people that he thought would go along with the animation team to Bar Street after hours. I guess they doubled up as some sort of promoters. There was one very good outside act that we enjoyed, we were also very privileged to have been allowed to attend a Turkish reception that was held at the hotel. Apart from this the entertainment was appalling. If it wasn't for the bar staff we would have been in bed by nine oclock every night.

Shops (Hotel)

The general stores was useful with a good selection on offer at what seemed reasonable prices. Not too sure what the fascination is with the Jewellers. We found that both shop keepers would hang around the entrance to the restaurant which we personally found very annoying. The manager of the general stores would often come to your table and hang around silently, very strange!!!

General

The location of the Hotel is excellent and we regularly walked to both Icemeler and Marmaris. About 10K total with the hotel pretty much in the middle. A short walk to the main road with Dolmus' running both ways on a regular basis.

We met some lovely people at the hotel. Spent a wonderful last day with Carol and Keith, beach time with Mary and Jo, and a big hello to Alison and Ricky (hope your house was in a better state than ours when you got home)

The hotel is around 2 years old and is kept absolutely spotless. The check in was easy and quick and we were shown to our room by a bell boy who brought our cases. The room was a good size with ample bed. The shower was fantastic. Linens changed daily.

Food very good, menu is repetitive, but a wide variety of choice each meal, so you don't have to eat the same thing every couple of days. Desserts to die for, especially Baklava! Thank you to Hakan for looking after us in restaurant.

Pool area can be congested with sun loungers very close together, advise to get up early and re-arrange furniture!

Beach small and shingly, but the hotel is ideally situated to travel to sandy beaches in either Icmeler or the other end of Marmaris.

All drinks 1st class, not diluted as many hotels in Tunisia we have visited. All hotel staff pleasant and helpful, with special thanks to the young ladies at the indoor bar, especially 'Checknaz', happiest bar maid with infectious laugh.

Arrived home on 25th October, 26th October booked to return in May and October 2014.

Fantastic location, spotlessly clean hotel, lovely rooms with rain shower to die for and huge bed! Great pool and private beach and brilliant spa....do not leave without experiencing the Turkish bath...sublime:). Spa ladies and housekeeping team were great...so accommodating and friendly. Food good considering number of guests and varied nationalities catered for. Only let down were reception team...no warm welcome, no interest in how your holiday was? Also during dinner we had to get our own drinks on more than one occasion...not acceptable in a 5 star hotel! Some of team just didn't want to interact...we quickly realised in whose section to sit in...as the blonde lady and one of the waiters were clearly more switched on. Would have been 5 stars with better service!

This was our third visit to CDM and it certainly will not be the last. We stayed in August 2013 but am writing this in October.
Once again booked with Thomson and have to say flights and transfer were really good.
Casa de Maris is a hotel where they pay attention to detail.
When we arrived we had fresh fruit and a bottle of wine in the room. This we were told was because were were classed as regular guests. It was a lovely touch.
Anna on guest relations remembered us immediately and went out of her way to check we were having a good time whenever she saw us. I am writing this in October three days after returning from marmaris again. This time we took our daughters and granddaughter with us and decided not to stay at CDM as they do not do big family rooms. However we went to the hotel and were immediately greeted as we walked through the front reception, it does make you feel special that the staff who see thousands of people remember your name.
In my previous review I mentioned that I would not recommend the jeweller in the hotel. As a result of that when we stayed this time Nesli and Tahir from Selma Jewellers came and found us to talk to us.
I must say now that my opinion has changed. Nesli is a lovely girl very helpful and Tahir is very knowledgeable. We spoke to them at length and promised we would see them when we came back to marmaris in October.
I can say now my wife purchase 2 rings from them and we are extremely happy with the service we received. The quality is excellent and We have been given excellent guarantees.
To Nesli and Tahir I am sorry for the previous bad review. We know what happened and we are all sorted now.
I hope that anyone who visits the shop gets the service we received.
With regards the rest of the hotel.
Cleaning 5 stars
Food quality excellent could do with a little more variety.
service in the bars excellent. This is the sort of hotel where the staff remember you and what you drink. That does not always happen in the larger hotels.
Can honestly say CDM was as good as it was last year.
Thoroughly recommend it to everyone

We stayed here as a group, some stayed for a week or 11 nights and we stayed for 14 nights. Unfortunately four of our group had to stay at the kaya maris as the CDM was fully booked, which we thought was very close but was actually about 15 mins walk. We had emailed CDM asking for advice on a close hotel for the extra four ppl but unfortunately they didn't reply to our emails.

A couple had booked the shuttle transfer, big mistake, we booked a private transfer,..thankfully via DM transfers. Brilliant service, lovely vehicles and reasonably priced. On arrival at 11.15 we were really pleased to see the hotel was lovely, and the reception staff very welcoming. We quickly ditched the bags and headed to meet our friends in the bar, last orders for the all inclusive being midnight, but they didn't mind us getting a few drinks in before last orders and didn't rush us out.

The 5 rooms we booked were all located on the 5th floor with side sea views even though 2 of the rooms should have only had land views. The management were kind enough to upgrade all the rooms to the side sea views which was lovely of them. The first couple to arrive were given a room on a low floor which didn't have the side view they had booked but this was changed the next morning after a quick chat at reception. They were facing area where chickens and rooster were kept but they never disturbed my sleep once, again this may be a benefit of 5th floor, but personally think those who have complained about them must have very sensitive hearing. I have suffered for months with a bad back but not at CDM, the beds are huge with variable pillows, so you can choose which suits you. I obviously need to buy a new mattress for home. The shower area is fab, with both a hand held shower head and a huge powerful monsoon head, separate toilet and separate sink. The mirrors are a bit of a pain but I had packed a little makeup mirror after reading previous reviews so wasn't a problem. There was a hair dryer and complimentary toiletries. There is also a kettle and tea/coffee. Still and sparkling water is replenished free of charge daily in the minibar but you had to pay for other drinks/chocolate. The maids cleaned the room daily and replaced the towels. Do note the use of electronic pad just inside the door which lights up either do not disturb or maid request. One morning I lay in til 9.30 and my partner hadn't hit the do not disturb before he left the room. Whilst applying suntan lotion butt naked in my room, a man walked in to check the minibar, I don't know who was more shocked, me or him lol. The sun hit the balcony most of the day so was a fab place to sunbathe, the wasps, bees and hornets didn't seem to bother flying that high which was a bonus for me. Paid £10 deposit for a beach towel which we changed daily at the spa, the money was refunded at the end of the hol. Some paid for the safe and extra British tv channels, I personally think they should be free in a five star. A little more bedding would have been appreciated as it was quite cold for a few days, usually find on holiday you get a sheet to lie on and a sheet and a thin cover to go over you but here there is just a sheet to lie on and the thin cover.

We did have to be up to get sunbeds but the hotel was booked to capacity so guess that's the norm, we didn't use the beach. The poolside bar and snacks were nice, the food was basic but it was great for a snack whilst sunbathing. Cocktails not very good. I like vodka red bull which isn't on all inclusive but I was buying large cans of a substitute energy drink at a shop up the road for just 2 lira and nobody at the bar minded me drinking them in the bar which was a big plus. A couple of members of staff seemed surly no matter how friendly we tried to be but the vast majority were incredibly friendly and helpful. A pianist played in the piano lounge every night and a violinist played at breakfast. Whilst these were very nice, it did become a little tedious after a week, sorry but variety is the spice of life, and maybe a singer or other indoor act occasionally would have added to the atmosphere.

Our rep Oz arranged for us to go on a free Turkish bath in the town. We upgraded to the extra treatments so had a full day. The place wasn't the nicest looking place but was buffed and polished so much that 3 weeks later my skin is still lovely and soft. We also booked a jeep safari and boat trip through him. Cheeky kev was the lead driver on the jeep safari (our driver) absolutely brilliant day, it is a huge water fight, with some off roading, lunch, waterfall visit (icy cold water but several braved the jump into it), visit to Jesus beach. The boat trip was a huge disaster, the clues were all there and ignored on the morning of the trip...woke up late, hangover, dark clouds, cold and windy...boat called the black pearl and the music playing as we boarded....theme tune to titanic! Our group braved the cold and went to top deck, a few even braved the first swimming stop. Lunch was the usual chicken pasta salad and bread with chips available to buy extra which was good. The weather worsened and eventually we asked the captain to abandon the trip and take us back. He agreed as the skies were growing more ominous but left it too late. The sea was too rough too Dock so we ended up trying to find somewhere else to try and dock but couldn't so the captain dropped the anchor and got everyone downstairs. Next thing we know it's very dark, the sea is heaving, thunder, lightening and torrential rain. We survived to tell the tale though. Guess even turkey can lose its hot sunshine, unfortunately the storm carried on all night so everyone sat inside at CDM to eat but the staff did their best bringing extra tables in to all available space to make sure you didn't have to wait long to eat and even brought the entertainment inside, luckily it was a single acrobatic belly dancer so he didn't take up much space.

We booked a trip via travel agent on the strip to turtle beach, kings tombs and mud baths. A lovely day, it was a long trip leaving at 9.00 and returning at about 630pm but worth it. Initially we were on one of the large boats but then transferred to river boats. Turtle beach was lovely, would have liked longer sunbathing there, only got a glimpse of a turtle though. Wasn't expecting the mud baths to be as nice as they were, chose which bath to get in depending on your skin type, I chose the one with addition of roses! Let it dry then shower off and return to the boats with beautifully soft skin.

We also booked the Cleopatra island boat trip, which thankfully was when the blue skies had returned, the seas were amazingly clear and the swimming stops were really appreciated on this trip. The trip was lovely although the beach wasn't what I expected. Bear in mind whatever trip you go on they will try to sell you extras, ie upgraded food, drinks, photos, videos, extra body treatments.....errr thinking about it we bought them all lol. You also have to barter when booking the trip and for some extras which I find a little trying but the starting prices are set high so they can barter, wish they would just lower them and fix them.

Can't say anything good about shopping in marmaris unfortunately. I wanted to buy things but the hassling is just too much for me, I love to browse and think about what I want but they just don't leave you alone. You only have to glance towards a shop or even an item in a shop and then the pestering begins, even pester you telling you they won't pester you lol. My fellas wallet was happy and we were under the baggage limit returning home but I was a little disappointed.

We did walk along the promenade (right by the hotel) to icemeler which was a lovely walk and had a sea taxi back for 10 lira(£3) a dolmus ran from the top of the road to icemeler for 2.50 lira or into marmaris town for 2 lira. We found we jumped on and off these all the time as they are constantly running up and down, and it is a good walk into town especially if you want to go as far as the main bazaar and port.

The younger members of our group went to bar street with the hotels animation team and from all accounts (and judging by the hangovers and pictures) they had really good nights. The bus left from the hotel at about 1130pm giving them time have a few free drinks the returned at 3.30am I think. Some of the entertainment in the hotel was really good and the animation did their bestut when the weather cooled it made their job more difficult. We joined in the water aerobics and was looking forward to burning off a few calories (as the hotel was providing me with so much yummy food) but when the weather cooled the pool went from refreshingly cold to flipping freezing. Even when the weather warmed I wasn't tempted back into the pool, the sea was warmer, but I missed the water games we usually play on holiday.

Had an English breakfast at the white lion near the roundabout, have to say my bacon had been missed up until this point and it was delicious :)

Had a mcdonalds at the airport before we returned, ten flipping quid for a very poor mcdonalds which took them half to cook after taking the money! Give that a miss!

All in all it was a lovely hotel, actually liked the location as it was close enough to icemeler and marmaris town to make visiting easy but it wasn't rowdy. The staff, food and room were brilliant, the pool is a let down. There are some great places of interest to visit on trips. A heated pool would guarantee my return but then again maybe it wouldn't feel as cold if the weather hadn't been as unseasonably cold as it was.

Room Tip: Fifth floor side sea view got a lot of sunshine on balcony, and no bugs. Rooms over the pool got bes...
