“One if the best holidays we have ever had!”
Reviewed July 30, 2013 via mobile

We have a 13 yr old son so going on holiday where we are all kept busy and happy is our aim - this holiday was spot on for us.

It's not the most luxurious or best food, pool, sun beds, bar or common areas BUT its an idillic location with a relaxed feel and so much on offer freely available with top tuition and friendly staff.

We loved that the resort is not to vast that popping back to the apartment between tennis lessons to sailing lessons doesn't take long.

We loved that our son was kept busy day a night with the kids club that had around 15 children aged13-14.

Our bill at the end of the week was reasonable but you could save money by buying duty free on the way over as the fridge in the room is big. As the luggage allowance is large I brought over a kettle and towels so saved on hire costs.

We didn't see wasps but got a few small bites from Mosquitos .

I wish we had booked two weeks. We will be back or book another neilsons holiday at one of the other resorts. If only they had flights from edinburgh !

With a 17 year tagging along, the walking holiday in the Lakes was out, So asked our Thomas Cook rep and friend to find us somewhere quick. Has she has previously been on a Neilson holiday this came with a great recommendation, so off we went. The 7am, 4 hour plus flight, out on Monarch airlines was a little cramped, I would recommend paying for the extra legroom if your budget will stretch to it. The transfer from the Airport to the resort went "drinking water supplied" without a hitch, although a rep positioned inside Dalaman airport directing the way to the coaches would be of help. During the transfer a Q&A session went ahead with Jonny, although having never been to the resort nor a Neilson holiday I was not sure what questions I wanted answers too. The water transfer was smooth and a nice way to arrive, the bags were taken to the room for us, whilst we picked up the key and had a quick look around. The rest of the day was spent, getting to know what was available and winding down from the early start.
The following morning was the get together, You do need to attend this if a first timer, as at the end the activity sheets are presented at the end in order that you can book/sign on to what ever activity you want to do during your stay, don't worry if you sign on to too many things as we did, when you sit down later with a drink if you find you are double booked, see the rep who will try and change your times. We tried most of the activities available, and have the bruises to prove it. Unfortunately with so much available we did not have time to relax, the equipment was just great, the staff were friendly and knew their stuff.
My 17 year old joined the Tag group and went out on several trips which he enjoyed, as it was less formal than the younger groups. at the end of the Holiday they and the adult guests played the staff in a game of volleyball, the guests won "1st time this season" and the Tag team lost :(
The evening meals which were very good, were from 7:30 until 9:30, but if you were to go at the later time then there is a good chance you would have a limited choice as they are pretty slick at cleaning away..
The room facing the pool was adequate although it was strange that the small room the my son was using had the TV, Fridge and hairdryer. we could have done with somewhere to allow the damp costumes to dry.
The highlight for me was the regatta on Friday, and just like Billy Tyne in the Andrea Gail from the book the Perfect storm I went down twice, but loved it. The rescue team were there should I have needed them.
On the last evening various certificates are awarded to winners of most improved, just taking part and winning, the event held in the beach bar is attended by most of the people on Holiday and a great end to a fantastic holiday.
Although the holiday is expensive, if you try and do all the activities whilst in a more modest hotel it may cost you a lot more in the end.

Room Tip: Facing the pool gives a better view, but when asking others in other locations they were happy, and...

This was our first holiday with Neilson and it was a very positive experience overall.

FLOTILLA: Our boat was an old 37ft Beneteau (too small in the cockpit for a family of 5) it was clean but certainly a bit tired & showing its age (and the toilet smelt all week!). However the sails worked and the beds & linen were all clean and we got some decent wind so the sailors were happy! (this is not the Ionian so make sure you have 2 competent sailors on board). Buy plenty of frozen water from the shop before departure (dont leave this too late) the fridge struggled in the heat. The over night stops were all on pontoons so the evenings were spent very sociably in restaurants (approx 35/40 lire ph) rather than anchored out alone & self catering (I would have liked a bit of both). There was not a lot of local knowledge shared by the Neilson crew and sadly we spent one night close to some magnificent ruins which I only read about later (i'd do your own research if you are interested) Overall it was a great weeks sailing, its always good if your kids make friends on other boats and ours did. Flotillas are sociable so bareboat if you want quiet time alone in the evening!! Quite long stretches between moorings & possible rough seas would put me off taking very young kids but our 11yr old enjoyed it (mostly... We did use the seasickness tablets!) and there were some hardy 9 year olds who loved it!!

RESORT:

Room: We had second floor rooms with balconies & wonderful views over the resort, the sea & the mountains beyond. I'm not sure there were better rooms in Adakoy, it was worth the money & the cleaner did a good job all week. There was plenty of room for 5 of us. The beds had toppers so they were firm but not uncomfortable & our air conditioning was quiet & efficient.

Activities: we enjoyed the waterskiing, tennis, sailing, windsurfing and fitness but I was aware that there were a handful of instructors who were not as engaged or encouraging as others. Jon & Chris deserve medals for their enthusiasm in baking heat on the tennis court - what a credit they are to Neilson, however the tennis is oversubscribed and group lessons too full to be of real benefit (but they are fun). I recommend a private lesson (extra cost). David on the waterski platform knows the meaning of service but if you were unlucky you might have had a ski boat with no one speaking to you at all (except for shouting the necessary orders!). The Hot Shot team were super cool lads and kept my son very happy. He has come home a confident young sailor & windsurfer. Jamie on TAG was amazing with the teens (what a handful!) our son thought he should have someone else to support him.

SAILING:
Neilson make it quite clear that the winds at Adakoy are not as strong as in some other resorts. It was perfect for us, enough for learning to sail and my more experience son just went a little further out to find the wind!! The regatta and laser races are very popular.

POOL /bars
The pool does get busy but you can always take yourself down to the 'beach' which is more peaceful.
The pool bar stayed open for us.... Late! We thought all the bar staff were great.
I don't go in for holiday 'entertainment' but I recommend you give the social nights a try.... They were fun!

INSECTS/WASPS
This was not a problem on land or at sea, in fact on flotilla we all wondered where on earth all the bugs were!

FOOD
Faultless. Delicious, fresh and interesting!

FLIGHTS:
If you could avoid flying Thomas cook then I would! Frequent long delays, inefficiency, bad communication, no leg room.... The list goes on. Neilson needs to address this or they will loose customers.

Overall a fabulous 2 weeks at Adakoy.

Myself and my boyfriend booked a week in early May in the hope to learn to windsurf, enjoy the watersports, club board and pool lounging.
We were thrilled with our holiday and managed to do all of the above and more.
Our hotel room was facing the tennis courts, with a view of the sea and it was ideal! We had to clean off some bugs from the ceiling on arrival, and swot a few during the week, but that's normal in the heat and when abroad.
The pool is fairly small and can become crowded and fairly noisy when the kids are around, so on these occasions the loungers by the shingle beach are more relaxing.
The restaurant is fantastic, really the food is immense - given that all bar evening meals are included in the package, it's a real treat. Deserts are too amazing to resist. There is a lack of couple-sized tables, so we up for sharing with either a range of other guests or another couple.
There are so many activities to choose from, the only stressful part was sign -up on the first morning, where we had to split into two and even then some were fully booked. Find one activity that's your priority and go to that one first. The windsurfing teaching was fun and really developed us from beginner through to experimental novice in a couple of sessions! Booze and Balls with Tennis john was a great social activity as was the quiz. The booze cycle isn't much of a cycle, but does include a boat trip to Marm at sunset which was nice.
With this holiday, you get what you put in, the more you to the harder you'll need to relax!! Enjoy it!

From start to finish this was a great weeks flotilla. We sailed from Adakoy on our yacht London . Any little problems with the yacht were soon put right , promptly ,by Pete. ( Nothing serious).
Neil and Arzu completed the lead crew. They were all brilliant! What a good team.
The weather was superb ! Hot , hot , hot and breezy. We got 9 knots the one afternoon. Mostly 5/6 's . With winds gusting to 30 mph on one occasion.
We visited some lovely secluded places to eat. . The Dufour 37.5 was a great boat... We even had a walk in shower . Good size cabins. Nice size galley .
Will definitely go back in the future.

We have just returned from our very first Neilson holiday at the adakoy beach club in turkey. It will not be our last.. We had a fabulous time, free windsurfing, dinghy sailing, water skiing, plenty of tennis and great food. We travelled with 2 sixteen year old girls and they had a fabulous time too. The staff are all very friendly and couldn't do enough to assist. Amy the guest services manager was great and did a super job in looking after everyone wonderfully. Very well organised activities.. We then went on the flotilla the following week. I think this was a good way to do the beach club first as everyone had made friends and then followed with sailing with the friends everyone had made. 2 spectacular weeks. Thanks to felicity and garrett, thoroughly entertaining..Thanks to all the team at Neilson. You're doing a great job! We will definitely be back!!

Room Tip: All the rooms were situated close by to the facilities nothing is far away. I personally would have...

We had a great time in Adakoy - thank you Neilson. We were travelling with two teenage daughters who made the most of all the activities on offer, as did we. Our main objective was to waterski so we bought the premium package which was well worth doing, especially in the busier months. We were then guaranteed two 15 min skis a day with excellent tuition (thank you Chas, Camil and the ski team at Adakoy!) The girls are now confident skiers and wake boarders which is fantastic.

The girls had a great time in Surf Squad (11-14) with Jamie, and could dip in and out of it, depending on other activities, so it was really flexible.

We also really enjoyed the tennis programme - thanks Jon and Chris, and actually ended up playing a lot more than we thought we would. There are plenty of Babolat rackets in the resort, but i was quite glad that we took our own, as we got plenty of use out of them.

The resort is so peaceful and quite compact which makes it really convenient to access all the facilities and activities throughout the day. We had interconnecting rooms which were really clean and spacious, with a terrace area outside which was great for drying wet towels etc.

We really enjoyed the food - all hot food cooked in front of you with delicious salads and plenty of fresh fruit. There is a comprehensive shop on site which stocks all the essential items you may have forgotten or need. There is a lovely relaxed, friendly feel to the resort.

We would definitely come back to this resort again.
