“Lovely authentic food”
Reviewed November 20, 2012

I have been to cihan ocakbasi a few times in my years of going to marmaris, if you get a chance you must go as you wont be disappointed, the food is freshly cooked and you can see the staff cooking it openly in the middle of the restaurant, the times i have been have always been 5* quality food, i normally opt for a mixed grill which has a bit of everything and you get lots of meze and the price is good too, i believe for 6 of us eating the bill only came to 110tl thats with alcoholic drinks too.
Staff are brilliant and attentive, they dont hassle you and they make you feel comfortable. the majority of the customers are turkish which tells you this is a good place to go, so if you're fed up with the other restaurants that seem to serve the usual pizzas, chips etc this place is well worth the try.
Its situated at the top end of siteler, on the main road going to icmeler and opposite some of the big hotels. easy to get there by dolmus or walking but it is set around trees so keep your eyes peeled!

“Typically, Traditionally Turkish!”
Reviewed October 10, 2012

We had not been feeling 100% all day and apart from a quick walk to cancel a boat trip and pick up some medicine, we had spent the day lazing at our hotel.
However, by early evening we felt fit enough to venture out for a meal. We chose the Cihan Ocakbaşı as we had eaten here a few times before on previous holidays and were certain we would not be disappointed.
As we still did not feel up to traveling on a dolmus, we asked Pam in reception to ring for their tame taxi driver. We had used him before and found him a comfortable and reliable driver. His name is Mehmet Normal and is actually a Kurd married to a Danish lady. The cost of this was 36 lira (£12.60) for a return trip; which we were happy to pay for this door to door service. The driver gave us his card and we phoned him when we were ready. He did not ask for payment until he had returned us safely to our hotel!
The Cihan Ocakbaşı is situated on the main road from Marmaris to Icmeler and is on the right as you are leaving Marmaris. It is housed in an attractive, old, octagonal building and has extra seating in a small garden area. The kitchen is open plan and you can wander through and watch food being prepared and cooked behind a glass screen.
On this occasion we were quickly seated in the garden and menus brought.
To start with Jean ordered a small bottle of water and I ordered an ayran. These drinks arrived quickly and we ordered our food. Jean then ordered a glass of the house red. Unusually we did not want to linger as there was a "cabaret" night at the Club Evin that we did not want to miss.
As we had been to this restaurant before we did not make the mistake of ordering starters. Jean ordered the chicken shish and I ordered the lamb liver shish.
As expected a plate of rocket leaves, shredded lettuce and finely sliced onion arrived. Alongside this was another plate carrying two large grilled hot peppers and eight grilled button onions. It is a shame that Jean is unable to eat onions unless they are cooked to oblivion as they were sweetly delicious. On a smaller plate was a portion of bulgur wheat which had been cooked in a tomato based sauce. In a basket was a large round loaf of freshly baked bread which the waiter called Hamoul but my spelling could be a bit off on that! A waiter also came round with a mini pide each. This is all complementary and is why we did not order any starters! We have been caught out by this before.
Our main courses soon arrived. Jeans shish consisted of eight large cubes of chicken breast which had been marinated before being expertly grilled over the charcoal barbecue. My liver came on ten skewers; on each were four small cubes of liver and one small cube of lamb fat to keep it moist whilst grilling.
The chicken was fully cooked but still tender and moist. The portion was too big for Jean so once again the cats in our hotel garden benefited from the excess. I ate all my liver! It was fantastic. If like me you enjoy liver then this is definitely the dish for you. Perfectly cooked, each morsel was melt in the mouth tender with a flavour that only expert grilling over a barbecue can impart. The little pieces of lamb fat were small "bombs" of juicy joy! Yes I know fat is bad for you but this was just too good for me to resist. I will be back on my fat free diet soon enough.
Jean ordered a second glass of wine as she said it was as good as any we had had. I unfortunately had to stick to water as I was on antibiotics for a minor tooth ache.
What a wonderful meal. Not a thing wrong with the food, the service or the general, comfortable feeling of this lovely little restaurant.
Totally, traditionally Turkish. Go for it!!!
The bill:
Small water 2 lira
Large ayran 2 lira
Glass of wine @ 7 lira x 2 = 14 lira
Chicken shish 15 lira
Liver shish 13 lira
Total 46 lira (£16)
A very reasonable price for a very enjoyable meal.
Once again this gets 5 stars and we can safely recommend it to anyone who wants to try genuine Turkish food at its best.
Peter & Jean. :o)

“A lovely traditional turkish restauraunt”
Reviewed September 18, 2012

We ate twice here during our 2 week stay. The service was good and the food was out of this world. The restauraunt is easy to find its on the main road between icmeler and marmaris. Use the Marmaris dolmus and it only costs 2 lira each way. There was 5 of us we shared different Mezes and chicken shish Adana kebab cheese pizza. We got some free dishes on the house too. The staff are really friendly. If i go back to marmaris i would defentaly go to this restraunt again

“Relaxing traditional restaurant”
Reviewed September 16, 2012

Ate here twice ths holiday but have been on several occasions. Staff very friendly and helpful. Food very tasty and fresh.
Husband had his favourite Adana kebab and I lamb chops, on the second visit we shared a mixed grill. We had a couple of mezes to start along with the complimentary dishes of salad, onions, tomatoes, chillies, bulgar wheat, two different types of bread. If you want any more of these you just have to ask and they will ring as much as you want.
On the second visit we did not arrive unil 11pm as we were meeting friend, we were not rushed out so they could close we allowed to sit and chat and take our time over the meal and not made to feel uncomfortable.
No dancing waiters or loud music here just a very relaxing atmosphere.

Very enjoyable.

“The Best Turkish BBQ”
Reviewed September 12, 2012

Gotta be the best turkish BBQ in Mugla. We have been several times and just can't get enough of the authentic food. 5* all round. Well done Cihan and all the staff.
