Sun Maris Beach Hotel
Ranked #208 of 234 Hotels in Marmaris
Reviewed June 20, 2011

We stopped in the Sun Maris Beach Hotel for a week from 11/06/11, im trying not to be too negative about it as we did have a good holiday but some things really spoiled it for us, firstly ill start with the fully inclusive, ive ALWAYS thought that fully inclusive means that ALL food, drink and entertainment was free, not at the Sun Maris it isnt, if you want a full english breakfast you have to pay, the free drinks stop at 22:30 and the ONE night that they had entertainment they expected us to pay £15 each, needless to say that we didnt, so they barred all the free drinks from the entertainment area and stole all the tables, also if you are not a size 8 with blonde hair or if your not spending money you will find the staff there are a bit ignorant apart from the staff around the pool who were a good laugh.
Next ill mention the food, this was the main problem for us, to be quite honest it was shocking, absolutly awful food, even if they serve chips you only get about 8 chips on your plate, i carnt really tell you what they served because it didnt resemble or taste of anything, if they paid the same amount of attention on the main meals as they did with the cakes it would be much better, we ate out most of the time because it was that bad, so again, if your fully inclusive STILL take plenty of money with you for food, also the free drinks are VERY small, about the size of a childs beaker and you can only get 2 drinks per visit, one drink per visit after 21:30, so you will find yourself queing up at the bar every 5 minutes.
And lastly dont dirty the towels or they will try to charge you £10 for them, we mopped some spilt coffee up with ours and had to report to reception the next day where the manager got VERY stroppy with my parter infront of all the guests, he demanded she pay £10 and when she refused he give her 10 minutes to clean it and bring it back, she washed it and it came clean straight away, i took it back 2 hours later and told him to shove it where the sun dont shine.
I also got ripped off when i changed some currancy at reception so beware!!.
But apart from that it was a good Holiday, i would defo go back to Marmaris but not at this Hotel, when we ate out at restraunts the waiters would always ask where are we staying, when we said it was at the Sun Maris Beach Hotel they ALWAYS said "hows the food", that says it all doesnt it lol.
On the positive side the Hotel has very clean rooms (with a tiny balcony), a good swimming pool and is only 60 seconds from the beach.
Would defo recommend the boat trip to the mud bath, takes ages to get there but its worth it.

My girlfriend and I have just come back from a week in Turkey staying at this hotel. Its not as bad as the reviews make it out to be but if you are expecting luxury, then you need to be else where. It is how ever, very basic. The rooms and hotel in general were clean. The staff are very helpful if asked to assist. The food is very repetitive but is not in the discription of slops as was commented on in some of the reviews. There is salad and fresh bread at every meal and soup at lunch and evening meal. Although meat dishes do seem to be in short supply. With a bit of imagination you can muster up something palatable. It does try to cater for europeans and not just the British! The balcany is small but there is room for 2 chairs although there is only one chair per room. In all honesty, I would ask why are you needing to sit on a balcany any way? Air conditioning is free and reasonably effective. The maid comes every morning to empty the bathroom bin and replace toilet rolls but towels and sheets were only changed once during our stay. We had to ask for a towel change after 2 days. The hotel has its own pool and thats why it has 3 stars otherwise this would only be a 2 star hotel. The sun loungers are taken up pretty early in the morning but to be honest you are better off walking the 5 minute walk to the beach. Here there is a plethora of restaurants providing free use of their sunbeds. We used the Seven O'Heaven bar which has a wooden decking jetty. You are not expected to purchase drinks in order to use the sunbeds but to be honest for what the drinks cost you may as well do so. Here they make very nice cocktails in proper cocktail glasses and also some nice fresh fruit frozen smoothies. You dont even have to leave your sunbed as there is a waiter service and you settle the bill at the end of the day. The food is very reasonable too. The problem with this hotel is not the hotel itself but the majority of the clientel. Because the hotel is cheap it attracts the gutter trash who tend to hang around the pool, guzzling AI beer and smoking and complaining. Do your self justice, if you have already booked this hotel, dont worry about it but do make an effort to spend your time at the beach instead of around the pool. There are worse hotels than this one in Marmaris! Visit Old Mararis where the marina and castle are located, which is about a 20min walk along the sea front from the hotel and has a number of very nice restaurants. The hotel can be a bit noisey during the night but come midnight the Police or Government officials (Community Wardens) are lurking around making the bars around the hotel turn the music down to an acceptable level. There is a bar opposite the Hotel called the Albatross. It serves proper alcoholic drinks and has a very good and lively atmosphere with friendly bar staff and good music. The local shop at the end of the street just before the beach offered the best exchange rate that we could find. CHANGE YOUR MONEY when you get to Turkey but NOT in the Airport! The Turks were very friendly towards us and although you do get touts along the sea front soliciting for your business a very polite no thank you and a wave is sufficient for them to leave you alone. Over all, we had a fab weeks holiday and would definately go again. Maybe not to the same hotel because we didnt think that AI was the way to go here and it is very reasonable to eat and drink out and actually much more fun. Dont let the bad reviews on here spoil your holiday. Go with an open mind, make the most of what Mararis beach front has to offer and if you just accept the hotel as a base for a bed and a shower then you wont go far wrong. We paid £215 pounds each for a week in Turkey including flight, hotel and all inclusive. You cant go far wrong with that and if you think that is bad then you seriously need to re-evaluate! Enjoy your holiday and have fun.

ignore reviews about food been inedible, was in our opinion very international, NO FULL ENGLISH GET OVER IT! can buy one at hotel for less than £2.50 if needs must, everything nicely cooked, fresh tasty breads, soups, salads, chicken, meatballs, beef varied, served with rice, terrific fresh potato wedges sometimes chips (not everyday) deserts varied gateaux, fruit etc, ok A1 ended at 10.30 but up til then included beer, wine, gin, vodka, raki (like ouzo) my favourite (slept well) next to no entertainment granted, but music played from paying bar, you could here this. would rate it more but did not like the manager, on the staffs backs all the time, had key to tip box so if you wish to reward the hard working staff give them tip direct, we paid £470 for a week including flight, A1 hotel, transfers and airport parking, cheap enough to use as base, if you wish to go out, we just wanted a cheap week in the sun, met our expectations, marmaris in general good value value for eating and drinking out, book your tours through the street vendors and they will give you better deals if you book more than one excursion with them, jeep safari is a must! just go enjoy, try to get on with other races, we can be the most ignorent, say hello gets a reply from anybody most of the time

I cant believe people have had things to complain about here, i have just come back after 2 weeks staying there with my Grandmother and I had the best holiday ever! The staff are so friendly and make you feel so welcome! It was my first time to Turkey and I am already trying to book another 1 back to the same hotel in Sep. The food was lovely we didnt eat out once. There was only entertainment once a week (Turkish night) but we were kept more than entertained by the pool bar staff! I would definitely recommend this to anyone. Its 2 mins walk from the beach front n if you fancy a change of scenery there are plenty of bars, restaurants and clubs a stones through away!

Stayed at the Sun Maris last year at the same time as we did this year, enjoyed it then and enjoyed it even more this year, improvements have been made, staff were very helpful, food has improved from last year, there were 2 adults and 1 child in our party and we were in a family room on the 6th floor, lovely clean rooms, everything in working order. Like a previous reviewer said the black mirror bar has moved a few yards away, but we were still able to use the bars seating area around the pool within our AI and wasnt hassled to buy a drink from them. Plenty of sunbeds available as well, the only downside were the bulgarian students who were very noisy, there were 4 boys in the next room to us, and I had to tell them to keep the noise down, which they did!
All the waiters were very helpful, especially Issac and the AI barman, even the restaurant manager smiled a lot more this year!
As everyone has said you get what you pay for, and This hotel is real value for money.
We didnt want to come home and are hoping to go back in August fingers x

Just got back from sun maris hotel after being transferred from the central which was shut then the city which is a dump, i would not advise anyone to go there. I cant understand the bad reviews on this hotel, we flew out on the 21st may for 12days, there was 6 of us including 2 children, the rooms are basic but very clean and was cleaned every day with clean towels, the food was good but alot of chicken also very good deserts you couldn't starve here!!!!!! The staff were so nice they would help with every problem if needed. The pool was good and you could get a sunbed anytime!!! that's when the sun was out !!!!!!had 5 days of thunder and lightening so theres not much to do if it rains, the kids found it boring!!!. The beach is 2min walk and the bars are the same 2min walk, you get what you pay for, the hotel caters for bulgarian students which are a damn nusience
security needs to be upraded!!! Martin who works the all inclusive bar is frendly but wants to be tipped every day!!!!. We will be returning to the sun maris again this year.

Hi
We stayed in this hotel again in may 2011, Last year was good, this year its very good and a lot has been done in the food department even more choice and new staff.
The room was cleaned towels changed and all appliances worked (TV with brit chanels ect.Aircon shower worked fine as did the air drier)
Pool was very clean and the porters are quick to clean any accidents you may have.
Staff cant do enough for you tip or no tip they always try to help!!
The bar closes 10.30 prompt q or no q real Coke fanta scheppes not from a bottle from a machine (the real thing) along with vodka beer raki shandy tea coffee are served 10.30am-10.30pm.
Afternoon cakes served 4.30-5.30pm everyday.
The entertainment is almost non existant but with the kareoki bar in the same complex (though not part of the AI concept) youll find plenty to do other bars are a few steps away.
The Black mirror bar as moved near to the beach (50 meters away) the bar ajoining the hotel is called Mirror bar and IS NOT included in the AI concept so be warned there are notices around telling you,( they do a nice English breakfast or 3 course meal in the steak house) can get a little noisy as your in the middle of the bars, a room at the back overlooking the 4* ciahan turk pool which you can use to escape the screaming kids in the hotel pool lol.would suit familys with children in high numbered rooms from no 512 upwards
Overall many improvements have been made staff changes better quality drinks/food etc
remember your not there for a long time just a good time.
