“Overated Hotel & Staff”
Reviewed November 17, 2012

My Partner & I have just returned from a 21 night stay (8th Oct – 29th Oct) at the Mutlu Beach we choose the hotel because we had earlier this year holidayed in Egypt (Luxor) and Portugal (Albufura) but at both 4 star hotels we had to endure loud noise from in-house discos or entertainment bars often into the early hours.

The Mutlu Beach advertised neither and was described as “small & friendly” , it was small 45 rooms but certainly not friendly maybe because it was nearing the end of the season but that is no excuse for poor service – this was our first experience of a 3 star hotel and for us a lesson learned and never to be repeated.

Reception – was staffed by mostly sullen unhelpful males more interested in their mobile phone conversations or watching TV, rarely did we receive a good morning or good evening in fact most times the counter was unmanned.

Accommodation – The room was very basic but clean the biggest problem was the lack of hot water most days, the a/c was controlled by reception the room temperature was set by them which remained at 24° day & night. We paid an extra £75 for the use of a safety deposit box and mini fridge. Out of 22 TV stations only one (BBC World) was in English and this was frequently unavailable due to “no signal” none of the other 21 were affected.

Breakfast – If you could call it that consisted of either an omelette or fried eggs, toast, damp cereal, dried fruit , jam, four tasteless cheeses, sliced salami, tomato & cucumber with tea & coffee. The most spartan breakfast selection we have ever experienced. We bought our own fresh fruit, cheese & cereal.

Pool Area/Gardens – the “spacious gardens” advertised were unkempt with many areas of bare grass leaving just bare earth; the local dogs roam the area constantly leaving their messages which remained in situ for days.

The Mutlu Beach is located at the farthest end of Calis promenade adjacent to a very noisy Turkish restaurant & dancing venue which operates well into the early hours. When we raised the issue with reception they were well aware of the problem and stated that as the restaurant operators enjoyed a good relationship with the local municipal authorities there was little they could do and suggested we complain to the Tourist Office, this we did and the noise reduced dramatically.

One afternoon we were in our room when smoke entered our room we immediately checked the corridor as we were aware there was just one stairway serving all four floors (no alternative means of escape!!). The corridor was clear and we found that the smoke was coming from the kitchen service yard below our second floor window and balcony, staff were burning rubbish which permeated into our room via a poorly fitted window. We reported the incident to the management who instructed the burning to cease but we had to leave the room for the rest of the afternoon to allow the smoke & smell to disperse.

We would rate the Mutlu beach 2 stars and would never return.

The Mutlu Hotel is lovely and in an excellent location. Most rooms have wonderful sea views. We were lucky to have a full sea view room and enjoyed sitting in the balcony every evening watching the gorgeous sunset. Gonca is in reception and is such a lovely person - nothing is
a bother for her - always a smile - a little angel! All the staff are good but Tan in the Bar is so
nice and always happy. Good choice of breakfast. Rooms are kept so clean with fresh towels
every day and the cleaners are again very friendly and hard working. Looking forward to a
return visit next year.

a great hotel, right on the seafront, could not be better location. The rooms were fine, all with balconies and sea views.
There are 4 floors and one lift which broke down a couple of times whilst we were there, so if you are reliant on a lift, I would ask for 1st floor rooms only.
I would definately go back.

We just love this hotel and have now lost count of how many times we've stayed there. We have already booked for 2013. Eylem is always ready with a smile and a big hug when we arrive. The staff are so friendly and helpful. The outside bar area was updated this year and is now more attractive, the garden and pool area are kept very neat and tidy. The bedrooms are basic but very clean, towels are changed every day and bed linen changed on a very regular basis. Every room has a sea view, most are side seaviews, the higher up you are in the hotel then obviously the better view you have, some rooms do have a full seaview and we have been fortunate to have this on all visits. We only stay on a B&B basis as we like to vary where we eat and have some favourite restaurants we like to go to, but the food is very good at the hotel and always freshly cooked. We do enjoy the BBQ evening which is a three course meal for around £10 per head, very good value. If you want a hotel which is lively and provides entertainment then this wouldn't suit you, but if you just want to chill then it would be ideal. There have been some adverse comments about the hotel but may be these people had higher expectations. We wouldn't hesitate to recommend this hotel. To wake up to the sound of the sea every morning is just wonderful.

Stayed for ten days at the end of September, with Thomson. Arrived late at night, but two very helpful gentleman ensured we were in our room in a matter of minutes. One of the gentlemen was Tan the barman. Always friendly and good for a laugh.

The following morning, went down stairs for breakfast and what can I say, but what a view!! The dining and bar areas are right on the prom with the beach and sea right there in front of you. The only thing more jaw dropping was the sunsets.

As many people have mentioned the water taxis and the pick for the dolmus to Fethiye are behind the hotel and can be reached in a couple of minutes. We did walk to Fethyie one day and managed it in around 40 minutes, just in time for beer o'clock. Speaking of beer, the hotel as well as serving Efes beer also served a large bottle (1 litre) of Marmara beer for 8lira, which is about £2.85

We had a room on the second floor, all with a lovely view, had to sit in the bar to enjoy the sunset as we were south facing, but is no hardship. Yes the beds are hard, but it did not stop me sleeping! Emlyn is a jewel and friendly and helpful at all times. There is a slight concern about the hotel being 'Thomson' only next year, as things stand I cannot book the Mutlu for the same duration from Luton airport, but can from other airports. Not sure why.

Eating out, we did not really have a bad meal in Calis, Casa di Mama, Barbellas, Brothers, Bar Nil, all serving really good value food. There is plenty of choice either along the prom or along the strip. It is a case of pay you money and take your choice.

As I understand it, the hotel is closing for a few months to enable some works to be carried out. Emlyn, said it included the pipeworks been modified. The last couple of days were queiter, as Emlyn went to work in an other hotel, until next year.

Would love to go back to Calis beach next year, wether I can get to go back to the Mutlu remains to be seen.
