Be careful if you go here on one of the 6 island boat trips as they only give you an hour on the island and we walked for 30 mins and were still nowhere near the waterfall so had to turn back, we didnt meet anyone who got to it in that time

Though I saw just 3 butterflies, I enjoyed Butterfly Valley as a highlight of my Turkey trip! You can only get there by boat, so we chartered a private speedboat for 5 hours by a tour company at Oludeniz (very cheap- only cost about 60.00!). We spent a couple hours here at Butterfly Valley to swim, eat, and hike to the waterfall. The waterfall was more of a hike than I expected, though, in my bathing suit.... pack some tennis shoes and real clothes! heehee

After getting ashore by sea (make sure to wear water shoes if you have them - the rocks in the water at the beach come up pretty fast) you will probably think, "now what?" That's the point of Butterfly Valley - now nothing, except to start walking. There are a couple of places announcing various things to buy, but as usual, this time we saw only one man and his son selling some water and a few souvenirs in a tiny hut, and that was it. There is virtually no one there, and there is nothing to do, except to listen to the insects making their little buzzing noises and, further on, the water sounds of the creek falling down some rocks at the waterfall and making its way to the sea. The valley is formed by sheer rock walls and the opening gets narrow fast. It is full of native vegetation and smells of resinous plants soaking in very hot sun. Up towards the falls, of course, it is shady and more mysterious. I doubt if the valley has changed in a thousand years. I think you can rent little tents to sleep in, but I am not sure. Most people visit as part of a Blue Cruise. We have actually seen butterflies there every time we have visited, although there are more earlier in the season than later, of course. I totally recommend this weird little place to nature lovers of any stripe; just don't expect excitement, only serenity.

Popular location for blue cruise yachts and ask day trips from Olu Deniz. Whist no doubt a stunning location, the lateness in the year (dry and burnt off) and hordes of visitors made the visit a bit fa let down. No butterflies but did not expect any. The path down was treacherous and need sensible shoes. In the gorge, you could do with a helmet because of overhanging rocks. Made one feel nervous.

If you are staying in Oludeniz or surrounding areas you can not afford to miss out on this little gem of a place.

Contrary to it's name there is not an abundance of butterflies but you will see a few on your venture in the lower grounds of the valley.

My husband and I wanted some quality time here and choose to get the Butterfly Valley taxi boat across rather than the many boat trips which limit your time. It cost 20 TL per person for a return journey and included the 5 TL entrance fee into the valley itself.

The ticket is bought at Oludeniz harbour hut at the front of the beach where you can also buy boat tours. Take your camera with you this place is a little paradise and it's beauty is second to none. My husband said it was on par with the places he has seen in Thailand which he use to say was the most beautiful place in the world.

The facilities are basic and it's more back packer than 5 star luxury but that made it even more exciting. The food was reasonably priced.

It is quite a trek up the valley walls to the waterfall that towers at the top. Wear suitable shoes part of the climb includes the mountain spring and wet large rocks. A lot of people gave up because their shoes were not cut out for it.

We were so pleased that we made time to visit this island.

The taxi boat return journeys leave Olu Deniz at 11am and 2pm and the final boat in & out is at 5pm (leaving at approximately 5.30pm don't miss it - unless you are camping of course). The bugs were quite big so campers should be brave!!

Probably the best day trip on our stay in the resort.

Note: You have to get on the boat in the sea as it does not reach the shore so people with young children or mobility problems would be better to miss this. Also the valley climb is steep, suitable for only a mobile adult/ teen/ child
