“A place high and hidden...”
Reviewed November 23, 2012

Pinara is an interesting ancient place -located high up in the hills off the main road between Fethyie and Kalkan/Kas.
It is a place to do picnic and spend some time looking at the various ruins, the theater and the iinumerous rock-cut tombs towering over Pinara itself. The road up is narrow and steep, but when you get there the view is panoramic and the place was never crowded with people.

“Amazing”
Reviewed October 4, 2012

I really want to know how they made those tombs in the face of that gigantic rocky mountain? The road leading here is a bit sketchy if you're driving yourself. The rock tombs here are pretty fantastic as is the overall site. If you are planning to visit Patara, include this in the same trip.

“Evocative ruins speak”
Reviewed October 3, 2012

We went to Pinara from Beyaz Yunus FARALYA on a visit organised by Exclusive Escapes. With just a total of 6 in our party we were fortunate indeed to have the services of Federe, a glamourous and educated guide who freely shared her natural passion and knowledge of Pinara.
She made the stones come alive for us. We learned that this had been an area for early retireds since more than 600 yrs BC. We learned that the unusual heart shaped columns may not have been part of a Temple to Aphrodite but a brothel (very active retireds). We learned the difference between a Hellenic ampitheatre and a Roman. We were in awe of the archer Pandorus(1600BC) summoned to Troy due to his prowess, His name still remembered today. What a guy! We learned that the 26 Lycian cities had different currencies. We felt connections with the present day standing in the area that would have been the Council/exchange and brokering chamber. Some things never change. So much to tell. If you have the chance go there. It is well worth taking a guide. Check on their credentials. Federe had a degree in Archaeology and Arts. It was her outstanding and energetic involvement that captured the moments in time for us. Good luck, hope you enjoy your visit as much as we did. Sandy G

“Great place”
Reviewed September 22, 2012

Pinara is definitely worth visiting, the place is not easily accessible but you can manage it with a normal car (not a jeep), entrance fee 5 lira and is open till 7 pm. There are rock thombs, ancient theatre and plateau with ancient agora, remains of the odeon, and magnificent thombs carved in the unbelieveable rock.
