We were looking for a cheap and cheerful hotel room in Calis beach close to the pier so we could get a boat over to Sovalye island to meet friends.
We booked a double room a couple of days before arrival at a price of 93 TRY. Found the hotel easily enough, a few car park spaces at the rear of the hotel. Shabby looking at the back, gardens unkempt. The reception area was clean but bare. The front of the hotel faces the beach. Nobody at Reception when we arrived but somebody soon came (if nobody there check the corridor on left hand side leading to an agency at the front which is part of the hotel).
Checked in easily enough however a) we were offered twin beds as no double available despite one being available at the time of booking, b) the price had jumped to 120 TRY (due to the conversion rate apparently, even though I booked it in TRY) and c) payment was taken there and then, not on departure as per the booking. Not a good start!
Rooms are over 2 floors (1 and 2). Reception, an agency and La Casa di Mamma restaurant take up the ground floor. We were allocated room 103. Room key doubles as electricity key and the fitting was loose with exposed wires. Small, clean bedroom with air conditioning. Towels and mini toiletries bottles included. Furniture dated. Mini balcony overlooking the sea. Bathroom was horrible – dingy with dirty grouting, no shower cubicle or curtain, just a hole in the floor and no shower curtain so everything gets soaked. I didn’t use it. Wiring exposed in the light above the bathroom mirror.
Went down to breakfast just after 8. It’s served in the La Casa di Mamma restaurant. We must have been too early as the staff were still cleaning up from the night before! Drinks order was taken 10 mins later and arrived about 15 mins after that. Breakfast is continental style i.e. bread, sliced ham, cheese, olives, tomato, cucumber with a hard boiled egg and tea or (very strong) coffee.
The stay served its’ purpose but wouldn’t stay again.

Room Tip: Ask for one overlooking the sea / promenade

Found easily enough, the hotel is in a lovely location in Fethiye--but the "lobby" is somewhat strange, as it is adjacent the kitchen of a restaurant on one side, and a corridor leading to an outdoor recreation business on the other.

We initially were put into a room that faced the back (and was close to the garbage), so the stench was very unpleasant. Additionally, the room smelled like it had been smoked in (we had been assured we were given a non-smoking room as we had requested), and there was definitely something unpleasant about this room. There was only one electrical plug-in we found, so charging two phones at the same time wasn't going to happen. Also, there was a 1 cm gap under the door, so mosquitoes and other bugs entering the room were only hindered by putting a rolled-up towel on the floor in front of the door.

We attempted to talk with the manager/desk personnel to request a different room for out entire stay, but they were unable to change our room for the first night. We endured it, and the next morning were moved across the hall to a different room that faced the water. Thank goodness. Not certain we could have dealt with the first room more than one night.

The across-the-hall room was better--there was no foul smell when the door to the balcony was opened; the view of the seaside was beautiful. It was a lot of fun watching the crowds on the "boardwalk" in the evenings. No need to go out for entertainment when it paraded in front of you every evening!

The bathroom was the "all-in-one" with the shower not separated by a partition. In other words, everything gets wet when you take a shower!

Breakfast was included in the price of the room, but it wasn't served until 0830, which could put a crimp in one's travel plans if they intended to get an early start for the day. As for the quality of the breakfast, it was OK. Have had better, have had worse. The kahvalti plate included a boiled egg, sliced meat, slices of cheese, several types of preserves, bread and the ubiquitous cucumbers and tomatoes. Chai was included for a small price, as was water.

Room Tip: Ask for room on the Mediterranean side of the hotel; ask if you can have an earlier breakfast if you...
