“Off the beaten tourist track - rustic charm with somethign for everyone”
Reviewed May 28, 2013

When researching this trip, we looked at the package holiday options in Turkey and knew very quickly that that just wasn't our thing. When we found Black Tree Farm and Cottages on booking.com, we immediately knew this was just what we were looking for: a place off the beaten track, family-friendly, peaceful and relaxing. And that is what we got. We had the place almost to ourselves for the first part of the week and were soon joined by other families toward the end, which was perfect for or son who enjoyed the company of other kids. We walked, hiked, biked, rode the ponies and I became very adept at driving on the mountain roads, which were a bit stressful at first, but you get used to it after a few days. It's the perfect place to combine a few days of sight-seeing with a few days of sheer relaxation. As a tip, I would also highly recommend before arriving at the farm that you purchase some basic supplies along the way, like milk, bread, coffee, butter, etc. so that on your first day you have some basics and don't have to drive back down the mountain right away after getting settled (though the farm does have a small shop). The food at the restaurant is excellent and every effort is made to meet dietary needs. Hosts Bob and Anthea are warm and hospitable and willingly share their knowledge of the area and will help you schedule any activities or make recommendations. They are an interesting couple with many good stories of their own travels, so makes sure you spend some time enjoying their company. Lastly, learn a few words of Turkish (hello, goodbye and thank you), it makes such a difference and will put a smile on the faces of the people you meet in this wonderful country.

My friends and I stayed at Black tree for two nights as part of our Lucian way walking holiday, full of rustic charm, clean, comfortable if a little tatty around the edges, which for me was no problem, however some of my friends who are use to finer things found it a little too rustic, the food served here I thought was the best of the whole trip and our eccentric, knowledgeable and very hospitable hosts added to the whole slightly surreal experience, up in the mountains with lovely views, this may not be ever ones cup of Turkish tea but it was mine, GREAT!

I think my favourite thing about Black Tree Cottages was the pair of eccentric old Brits who own this place. When we arrived, some children's play equipment was being delivered and while I sat by the pool watching, the older woman owner (her name escapes me now...shame!) took a zip down the children's slide. I knew immediately that I was going to like my time at Black Tree.

The accommodations are rustic but entirely clean and comfortable. Four of us stayed in a stone cottage with two bedrooms and a shared bath. Hot water was plentiful. The rooms were nice and cool. Beds were comfortable. But we didn't spend too much time in the cottage because this place is laid out over a large space of open land. There are chickens and rabbits and horses (all of them, properly free range), a pool, some shaded areas outside for lounging, a hammock. We visited in May and had the place almost entirely to ourselves. Breakfast and dinner were served on an outdoor terrace (there is an indoor dining room too and if it is cold and you ask, they will light a fire in the old stone fireplace....just lovely!). The meals were delicious and if you're a Brit missing home comforts, you'll appreciate the eggy bread at breakfast with fresh marmalade.

This place is a bit out of the way, which is great when you arrive but it might be a bit tricky to get to. Make sure you know how you plan to arrive or ask when you book. We were with a guided hike so we had private transfers. But to be honest, the locals in this area are so helpful and kind that you could probably arrange something pretty easily with a couple of inquiries.

Had a great time enjoying the rustic charm of staying on a farm in a real Turkish village rather than a trashy tourist resort. The farm is off the beaten track so won't be for everyone but getting there was half the fun for us (the views from the winding mountain road of the coast were stunning). Our cottage was very comfortable but we did need the open fire as it was a bit chilly in the evenings in October. Anthea and Bob were very friendly and helpful hosts. The food and atmosphere in the onsite restaurant was great.

Blacktree is an oasis. This summer, we stayed for 3 nights at Black Tree. The place, like most of turkey's villages, are generally inaccessible but it made the area all the more exclusive and serene. The cottages are clean, and the grounds are amazingly natural and peaceful. More importantly, our hosts were super friendly and helpful. We highly recommend Blacktree!

This summer we, my husband, my two kids and I, decided to have a tour starting from Kuşadası, Aydın and ending at Olympos, Antalya. Black Tree was just a two days stop over of our family road trip.We did not know what to expect because we only saw the pictures and read the comments, and made our reservation through the internet. When going there, 1600 m. above sea level, many times I thought we were lost. When climbing up the view was awesome. Only when we reached there I could believe that there was a place called Black Tree. And after a small tour around I thought we were in heaven. We spent two wonderful days at Black Tree. The stone house, with a fireplace and splendid furniture, food and people serving were all so amazing. It was really peaceful for us adults and so adventurous for our kids. They spent whole day at the pool and shared wonderful time, chasing rabbits at night and spending time with two sweet dogs, Maddie and Boncuk during the day and at dinner time. It is an ideal place for whole family. Adults can spend the day and the night without wondering where the kids are and what they are doing. There are workshops, pottery, mozaics, etc. and activities like pony riding and tracking for kids set by Anthea, the owner of the place. At the end of our stay there, neither my husband and I nor the kids wanted to leave.
It is especially a wonderful place for families. During our stay there, there were 10 kids, including ours, having great time.

We spent an enchanting week at Blacktree Farm in August with my husband and 2 girls aged 14yrs and 10yrs old. We stayed in one of the detached 2 bed cottages which oozed rustic charm .The small kitchen was basic, but adequate for our needs and there was delicious organic food served all day in their restaurant which was very reasonably priced. The farm had plenty for the kids to do and the swimming pool was a magnet for all especially because of the beautiful inviting shaded cushioned areas around the pool .There were lots of other things to do around such as tennis, horse riding, walking trails and mountain biking but best of all were the hosts Anthea and Bob (Gurbuz) ,they are the most welcoming generous hosts you could wish for .Anthea has an amazing zest and passion for the place and surrounding area that it is infectious and Bob is a wonderful host in the restaurant ,both would bend over backwards to help us any way they could. This is a lovely enchanting magical place that we share reluctantly with others as we would honestly like to keep to ourselves as a secret hide away!

Room Tip: We stayed in one of the detached cottages which are quiet and spacious
