Currently staying in Fethiye and heard some mixed reviews on here but thought we would give it a go.
We hadnt booked a table but on arrival we had a table setup on the adjoining patio next to the restaurant. We were told it was a nice spot and they liked putting couples on there as its out of the way of large groups in the main place. There was no lighting so we sat in the dark all night feeling pretty stupid.
We were sat on patio furniture so very soon we were hot and uncomfortable. We decided to both order the "Sunset set meal", and both opted for the lamb as the main course.
We ordered a bottle of the house white wine and a bottle of water. The water arrived and was luke warm, the wine was even worse. It tasted like it had been out all day and was closer to being tea/coffee temperature than your average white wine. The taste was something like watered down vinegar. Maybe its meant to be nice when its cool?!?
So we asked for an ice bucket (every other restaurant in Fethiye gives you one as standard without asking). we soon found out why they dont provide them....they dont have any! Instead the waiter brought out a pot from the kitchens full of tap water (needless to say it was warm) with a bottle of frozen water in it. Funnily enough with the heat of the evening and the warm water the ice bottle soon melt, rather than cooling down the surrounding water, so ill never be able to tell you if the "wine" would taste nice cool.
The starters arrived (Meze for 2) and everything on it was rather bland and didnt taste very fresh at all. Ive had around 5 Mezes at other restaurants in my stay and all have been infinately better than this one was. The portions were very small and nothing of note was very pleasant.
The mains arrived some 30 minutes later (ok for some but too long for me) and the sides were rice, potato salad and what seemed like a tomato/pepper combo. The rice tasted warmed up and was in one solid luke warm lump. The potato salad was ok and the tomato dish was edible but nothing more. The main part of the meal, the lamb slow cooked in a clay pot in the oven was horiffic. We ate about a third of it between us just because we were so hungry. The lamb was almost certinaly mutton. It was chewy, extremely fatty and was a lot dryer than lamb should be.
By the time desserts came out we were defeated and just wanted to go home. The dessert for the record was Baclava and ice cream. My girlfiend said the ice cream tasted like soil which was a fairly accurate description. The Baclava was ok but nothing like the ones you get over in Greece.
The final nail in the coffin was the bill, it came to 107 TL. We have eaten like Kings whilst in Turkey and to date our largest bill was 85TL. So the price more sickening than the food we had just eaten.
Oh actually there was one more nail, just for good measure. We asked if we could get a lift back to the hotel and were told that both buses had just left and we would need to wait 45 minutes for the next one. Both buses had actually left whilst we were waiting for our bill so they knew we were ready to go. It really was a joke of a restaurant and how it has been so highly recommended by others astounds me.
We ended up paying the bill and walking home....via the kebab shop :)
