My husband and I stayed 10 days in June, we were looking for a relaxing no hassle holiday after a hectic week in Istanbul. We got what we wanted and more at Clubmed Bodrum.
We had a rocky start when our pick up did not arrive at the airport, we waited an hour before phoning the resort. It turns out our pickup was waiting at international and not domestic arrivals...honest mistake. When we arrived at the resort we were late for lunch and everything was being packed up. We were ushered to a table on the terrace and the staff proceeded to lay out our own private feast on our table, a small thing but it was so thoughtful and we were hooked.
Our room was in block Z, at our request we wanted a room away from the action and noise and we liked the walk. Our room was spacious modern and had a fantastic walk in shower. We chose a sea facing club room. We couldn't see the sea just lots of pine trees but the room was perfect for us.
Archery was next door to our block, Servio was very helpful and entertaining. Tournaments are held almost every afternoon with various challenges. My husband loved this and enjoyed the inter country competition. I went on the snorkel boat everyday (except Sunday when most of the activities are not available) there are two trips at 10 and 2 pm. Al, Selina and captain Mehmet take you out to various coves depending on weather conditions. This was a wonderful way to explore the rugged coastline and see the beautiful boats that cruise around the area. Find out when they go to a cove called "swimming pool"- not to be missed. There are little to no fish on the 'snorkel' trip but go and enjoy a swim in a beautiful cove. The Hamam is a wonderful addition, we would end our day there with some apple tea and a nap in the quiet area.
We booked with Clubmec Discovery for a day excursion to Ephesus. Although this was a long day it was very interesting and we enjoyed it very much. The guide provided was french speaking (I think he was resident in the resort) so we were given audio guides at Ephesus which I enjoyed since we were left to our own devices and just had to stay near to our group. My only problem with the guide was that he spoke only in French knowing that we could not understand any French. Only after I complained to him did he make an effort to repeat the essentials in English ie were the bathrooms were, how long a stop was going to be etc. I expect more from a guide provided by Clubmed. We wanted to go to Pamukalle but there were not enough people to go on the excursion which was disappointing. We took the minivan/bus into Bodrum. The stop is just outside the entrance to the left and the minivans are clearly marked Clubmed, it costs 5 lira one way and run every half hour until 2 am, the trip into town takes 20 minutes. The town is picturesque and has loads of shopping. We went to St Peters Castle and did some shopping in town. A Sunday is a good day to do this as most of the regular activities in the resort are suspended and everything is open in town on a Sunday.
I have to compliment the resort on the both restaurants. The food was excellent, the staff was excellent. We enjoyed the chefs who were full of fun. The waitors were all excellent. We loved the little touches like the barbecue at the beach bar, the pancakes at tea time, the ice cream bar with take away tubs that we would take down to the beach after lunch. We loved Turkey night when they served Turkish dishes, it was deeeelicious. There was a lot of fresh fish and the produce was all delicious. The white night at the pool was very special when the whole restaurant is relocated around the pool area. A lot of work goes into this by the staff and it was much appreciated.
On the whole this was a lovely resort, the sports, staff, food were excellent. It is the first Clubmed I have been to who outsourced some of the evening entertainment and the was also excellent. The local staff shows were painful to watch. This resort attracts a much older crowd and the lack of a kids club made for a nice relaxing fairly quiet holiday.
I am taking off a star for the smoking in this resort. The French and Clubmed staff smoke EVERYWHERE! As a non smoker it was very frustrating and we would play musical chairs on the beach, restaurant, beach bar, pool etc.. the only refuge was the Zen lounge. I feel that Clubmed should look at their smoking policy / enforcement especially in line with legislation all over the world, it seems out of line with a company that focuses so much on health and fitness and environment.
