“Very quaint, but don't expect luxury”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 24, 2012

This hotel is literally an old house that has been renovated and is run (when we were there) by a nice woman named servet. our tour group stayed there and literally rented out the whole place with its 7 rooms.

The rooms are all basic and have bathrooms in them of varying size. We were in the top floor 'yasmine' room. Unfortunate the toilet was so close to the wall that at 5'10", when I sat down, my knees hit the other wall, so I had to sit sideways. Not a huge deal, but tall people in this room, be warned.

The decor of the place authentic with the beautiful wood ceilings and floors, with lots of carpets covering the floors. I the winter I can imagine a big roaring fire on the first floor. No shoes can be wore upstairs on the wood floors to preserve the wood, not a big deal. The laundry there was reasonably priced and smelled so clean!

Breakfast, oh the breakfast! They make their own jams, cigar borek, cheeses, and they serve lots of fresh veggies and fruits that are in season. The girls were very johnny n the spot and were always refilling out 'chai' (Turkish word for tea). We had breakfast out in the garden since the weather was so nice. Very enjoyable.

Servet who ran the place whe we were there speaks very little English, but that was fine for us since our tour guide could help, it make sure you are aware if you come on your own. We stayed for 3 nights and she was a sweetheart. At the end she friended me on Facebook and I will make sure to send her the picture he taken with another couple.

Overall the place was very nice and had a great authentic feel.

The owner is the nicest guy you will ever meet who will do anything for you, but there are a few significant weaknesses to this place that in fairness should be noted. Most importantly, it is not in the historic part of Safranbolu. It is in the modern "Kıranköy" neighborhood, NOT the historic "Çarşı" neighborhood for which Safranbolu is famous. Therefore you will need to walk (about 40 minutes - a pleasant walk in good weather) or taxi or try to figure out the busses to get over to Çarşı, where all the action is. Also, much has been made of his art collections. This is not art, this is just a hoarder who has found a way to turn his addiction in to a strength! Our room was the old shortwave receiver room. Cute, particularly for an old shortwave listener like me, but frankly it was just cluttered, and it made my wife who is a neatnik edgy.

So if you want the nicest proprietor on the planet, and if staying in the modern part of town has advantages for you (for example, if you are coming in by bus,) this is your place. If you want to stay in the famous historic zone, head over to Çarşı.

We arrived at the hotel relatively early around 6 am
Woke up MR AHMET early, but he still warmly help us to check-in and prepared breakfast for us by himself.
Hotel location excellent ,can see the the appearance of the the whole town
The town of great is full of historical type everywhere handicraft inherited artists.you can enjoy the walking way to the center of town.
MR AHMET implant the life-giving lanuage to the house.
We visited the house inside and out and he showed us the transformation of the entire house
Gives the impression of the whole house is more like a microcosm of a small museum.
Collection of cameras, bottles, perfume bottles, the very breath of life.
maybe next winter will be a good choice when it is snow .there is a large fireplace in the hall all of these are worth to expect.
Classic Turkish breakfast is very fresh, homemade jam
Very Carefully take care of the garden, even u dont want walk outside ,the 200-year-old house has been told you about the story of Safranbolu.

super thanks for Mr Ahmet's helpful for our trip!

Ms Servet will make your stay in a beautiful hotel in a lovely city as easy and enjoyable as possible. Besides a very fine room, the traditional mansion has a lovely garden where an excellent Turkish breakfast is served. Ms Servet a great deal of assistance, not only information, about local sights, restaurants, and onward transport. "Everything" is within walking distance but be prepared for hills.

Our time in Safranbolu at Degirmenci Konak was excellent! We loved the climatic, old Greek house with its quaint design and the collection of cameras :) Ahmet, the owner, is an outgoing, knowledgeable and particularly friendly man. He served delicious home-made jams, gave us a lift here and there and dealt with all the numerous questions my fiance kept asking ;) It felt like much more than just a visit there. We listened to traditional Turkish music, ate traditional food and walked through the paths Ahmet recommended. We're already planning to come there again. Thank you, Ahmet. See you soon. Special greetings for Isma :)

I share the views of most fellow reviewers which I am not going to repeat here. Would like to thank the very kind lady owner again for the wonderful stay. There are two things I may wish to bring to future visitors' notice: 1. if you are taking long-distance bus to Safranbolu, just take a taxi direct from Safranbolu Octagor to this house. The fare should be no more than 15TL by meter and it saves you a lot of time finding the place. Free dolmus provided by bus companies will not drop you there. You will waste time orientating. 2. Walk to town centre is okay, downhill and takes around 15 minutes in leisure. The return however is not that easy. You may get lost if you are not careful as you will find that all houses look the same. My suggestion is actually to take a taxi (10TL fixed price) to save the hassle.
