Our experience at the Tempo Izmir was better than expected. It was a pleasant surprise when on the arrival late at night the receptionist Mr. Hussein greeted us with the expression that he was waiting for us. From then onwards it was most pleasant stay all the way. The staff was very courteous and helpful. The cleaning was carried out most professionally. Rooms/Residences were spacious with nice décor. Only thing that needs to be improved is the wifi service, signals sometime were not very strong. More English TV channels specially for kids would add more value to the stay for families with young kids. Overall it was well worth the money. Well done Tempo keep it up!!!

We had booked a room for 2 adults + 2 kids and we got two large interconnected suites. Each suite was very large by hotel standards and the decor was modern and fresh, even a little funky in a fun way. The folks were friendly and very helpful and breakfast was served in the room at no additional charge. I don't know much about the location - we came in late at night and left early the next morning - but the place itself was great.

The Hotel itself is great one. Really comfortable and clean with all the facilities that a family need. Very friendly and helpful staff. They really value the customers. Ready for assistance. But the sorroundings was not that attractive. You have to walk for about 10 minutes (out of the hotel and left) to get to more live places. For the people who are not afraid of walking, withing 15 minutes you can get to the heart of the city.

Room Tip: It seems that the rooms facing the main street are a bit noisy. Ask the reception to give you a room...

This is the third time that we stayed at this hotel and we never regreted it. Although we have traveled a lot, this hotel offers the most comfortable, spacious and well equiped rooms we have ever stayed in. The hotel is not luxurious but very modern. This is a relatively new hotel situated in a not so central location, although the centre and main highlights of Izmir are accessible by foot. The rooms (they are actually appartments) are really spacious, varying from 45 to 70 sqm, depending on what you pay. We always choose the standard suite (the middle size, which is 55sqm), which includes a large bedroom, an even larger living room with a fully equiped kitchen and a middle sized bathroom. There is even a laundry and a scale inside the room!!! The room price is considered average but the quality to price ratio is excellent.
The fact that there is a fully equiped kitchen can save a lot of money as you can cook almost anything. The only thing missing is the oven. Just next to the hotel you can find a small supermarket and a pizza shop, which is really convenient.
Outside the hotel and all over Izmir you can easily find a taxi. The hotel is situated 18Km from the airport and the cost by taxi is approximately 50TL.
The hotel's personel is very friendly. Mr. Bora, in particular, is extremely helpful and willing to make your stay as pleasurable as possible.
The only drawbacks of this hotel are:
1) its average location, because of the distance to the city centre and the bad reputation of the neighbourhood (erotic bars), though they didn't cause us any problems even when we were coming back to our hotel late in the night.
2) its poor room breakfast. Every night you fill a form choosing your breakfast among some options with a lot of restrictions (for example you cannot choose both white and yellow cheese). The quantity of the breakfast is quite small and the quality is not the best. One of our biggest problem was that the omelette was always raw (uncooked) and we had to write a note in Turkish on the form every day so that they cook it well. However, because we had stayed in this hotel twice in the past and we knew the breakfast problem, we bought some food from the supermarket to make up for the bad breakfast.
As a conclusion, we strongly recommend this hotel to everyone.

Room Tip: Prefer higher floors and rooms to the back of the hotel, as there is a noisy street on the front.

We picked Izmir as a place to stay to visit Ephesus. It was halfway through our 2 week vacation and the apartment-like room with washer was much more comfortable than your typical hotel. The room was large, the bathroom was o.k. size but the shower was very small, basically a glass enclosed shower just a few feet in diameter. The bedroom was a nice size and then a large sitting room with couch, table, TV, desk, kitchen table/chairs and small kitchenette with full size refrigerator and washing machine. We did not pre-book a trip to Ephesus, thinking we'd be able to find options in Izmir. The hotel offered a tour which at $60-$70 euros seemed high so we walked into Izmir thinking there would be many tours to choose from. We could not find any other tour trips offered. We decided to go with the hotel's recommendation. The tour started out well with a small group of 6, a trip to the Virgin Mary house and Ephesus. The guide was knowledgeable and informative. Lunch was very good, served family style with a lot of options. After lunch though, the tour became a sales pitch for local products. First stop was rug store. We were shown the process for how to weave rugs and make silk, then moved into the sales room and shown dozens of rugs. After the rug show, we were given time to shop. From the rug store to a leather store, first an explanation of the leather, then a fashion show then time to shop. From the leather store to a pottery store. First a demonstration of making pottery then time to shop. These were not inexpensive stores. After reading places we missed in Ephesus, we decided to take the train in the next day. Our hotel provided directions, train easy 5 minute walk although hard to find English help at train station. Izmir does not appear to be a heavy tourist town. There may be some cruise/ferry tourists on the waterfront which is about a 15 minute walk from the hotel. The waterfront area is pretty nice, lots of tables/chairs bordering the water, good place to watch the sunset. Overall though, not much in Izmir. The bazaar was really crowded and uncomfortable, many of the shops sell plastic items similar to items found in dollar stores. The location of the hotel is not in a good neighborhood. The sidewalks are narrow and crowded, you walk by several nightclubs with very scantily dressed women standing in the doorway, the shops are run down. I don't mind experiencing local culture and neighborhoods but not if I don't feel safe. I did not feel this was a safe neighborhood and did not feel comfortable walking to or from the hotel at night. Planned on taking the train to the airport, hotel recommended subway which was a short walk away and very convenient. Good, helpful and friendly hotel staff. Overall, really nice hotel in a really bad neighborhood.
