Ruins of Asklepion, including a smaller theatre, paved road and a lot of remains of different structures, are down in the valley beneath the Acropolis. You can enjoy spectacular views both from Acropolis to the valley and from Asklepion to the Acropolis. We found it dificult to find a good alternative for lunch in the nearest town of Bergama, even in the restaurants nearby the Museum.

Much like other Turkish ruins, this being a medical center of ancient times built around an alleged miracle inducing spring, in the hills of the Bergama region on the west coast of Turkey. Not the best of preserved sites by any means, but one with an interesting history, and intact enough to make the trip worth your time. It lies about two hours south of Canakkale by car, and around two hours to the north of Izmir. There are restrooms and eating establishments close by, and for entry into Asclepion there is a fee.

The medical facilities are still laid out and standing in reasonable fashion, and the underground corridor to the treatment facilities is also still intact. All have access to the "miracle spring" which is around the center of the attraction, and it turned out to be the focal point of a gypsy wedding which happened to in full celebration at the time of my visit. Not being one to be too skeptical, I also splashed about with the spring water. The streets and structure decorated with columns are in several locations, and the facility has many interesting areas worth your inspection.

90 minutes pretty much covered the history, exploration, and photo opportunities for me, but you may find the need to adjust by 30 minutes either way depending upon your interests or the weather. The obligatory souvenir stores are right next door.

I'd give it 7 stars out of 10

If you've been to the Pergamon museum in Berlin then you should have a clear picture of the original site but you've never guessed the very original site was like a ruined area!

A 5 minutes gondola ride will take you up to the mountain top. You've got beautiful views and stunning ruined site. There are lots of souvenir shops at the bottom of the site also. Not of good quality but very affordable.

The city of bergama is dirty and seedy. We found a GREAT hostel, but the town is not very nice. If you are going to Pamukale or Efeses, you can skip this one.

If you compare the Asclepion with Acropolis, you will be a little bit disappointed. But I found it very different than Acropolis. There is not much to see here like Acropolis; but the tunnels look very impressive.

I preferred to walk here from the city center and it took me about 25 minutes. It is very easy to find this if you follow the signs.
