“Beautiful place, awesome view”
Reviewed October 14, 2013

We liked the awesome view. It needs more restoration. I was not expecting to see how big this place is, there are many places to visit and a day is not enough. My understanding is that the whole altar dedicated to the God Zeus was transported piece by peiece to Germany where now can be seeing.

“HIgh and Mighty”
Reviewed October 8, 2013

The acropolis at Bergama is fascinating. It is not handicapped accessible and has some hard walking. You get to the top via a chair lift. The ruins are impressive but not as much as Aphrodisias or Esphesus. But the chair lift to the top to see the wonderful views is worth the trip.
Take you time wondering around. I had a tour guide so did not need the audio service. I went in early October when the crowds were smaller and thus had more time to look around. The guide said that during the high tourist season that it was very hot and croweded.

“A quiet sanctuary but with little to see and visualise.”
Reviewed October 5, 2013

One of the main attraction at Bergama. This place is hard to reach by foot. Either you'll have to take the cable car up or drive all the way up. Parking was supposedly charged, but when i was there, there was no attendant in sight, so I did not pay for it. (PS: a tip; you can try bargaining down the parking rates in Turkey, It's really funny that the displayed prices are not fixed).

The entrance fee for this ruin is 20 Lira, and the audio guide was around 10 Lira. The audio guide was pretty useless and had little information content. But if you do come here with some friends, it will be a good idea to share an audio guide. They will include a map that gives u information of the ruins you are looking at. The most impressive area that remain is probably the theatre, but even so, it can hardly compare to the one at Efes or Aspendos. Personally, other than the rich history of this site, the other good thing about this place is that there are hardly any tourists around, so you will be able to take in all the sights at your own pace.
