Had chance to enter the castle and clocktower within on a business trip. The castle itself is very poor it's just walls and a big barren area. The are fresh excavations which are seperated with a barricate. The mescid is nothing special and in very poor condition.
The clocktower on the otherhand is worth climbing, the condition is very poor just like the whole complex. The stairs are poorly lit and very steed, last ladder you have to take in order to reach top is wooden with a tight passage but once you get top and start breathing normal the view is magnificent.
The whole Erzurum can be seen from top. All the major attractions like twin minaret madrasa as well as three cumbets can be observed. Catch your breath and enjoy the view. Remember thıu even it was summer the top was chilly and breezing so better bring long sleeves.
