Don't let the wild color scheme deter you--hot pink walls and bright orange curtains are a bit shocking, but this place is a budget-travel steal. For just 30TL a person you get a clean room, a clean, private bathroom, nice and hospitable staff, friendly travelers, and a central location. There's also good wifi, an air conditioning unit (which we didn't use because it wasn't warm enough for that yet), TV (also didn't use--Diyarbakir is a great city, don't waste your time watching television!), and again, great service. I can't stress that last one enough--especially as a woman traveling alone or with another woman, feeling comfortable where you stay is very important.

The regular staff doesn't speak English (though they are very friendly and Tuncay does what he can to help), so they call their friend Omer who can translate, give you any information you need and acts as a tour guide for those who want it. We didn't hire him as a guide but we speak enough Turkish to get around. Still, Omer and the rest are very helpful and friendly.

I can't wait to visit Diyarbakir again and I'll definitely stay at Surkent when I come back.

It is a lovely place as a budget hotel with wifi, tv, bathroom inside, and even air conditional(which works well, means i can stay here in summer also) in such a place during my whole trip. The room was very clean. 35TL for a single, u might barging until 30 i guess.
Diyarbakir is a nice city, not as its impression in the News.

The staff asked Omer was accompanying me to ATM in the night (for protection).
He became my guide since that night.
He is a nice guy speaking English, french(which i speaks with him in this 2 languages.) and also russian.
As he told me, he was not well educated, but during his working with tourist at the western side of turkey, he started to learn these language and managed to speak fluently while he is also working in other place in the city at same time.
If you don;t have enough time, or u r concerned about the safety in diyarbakir for founding someplace in a narrow alley, this guild is highly recommended.

Hotel Surkent has been a great base during our short visit in Diyarbakir due to its location within the old city. It is a nice place for the low budget traveler.
Our two-bed room in the second floor was quiet, nice and warm. Of course there was a TV in the room and even free Wi-fi.

Since the staff does not speak English they called up Omar, a travel-guide for Diyarbakir/Diyarbakir region and served us delicious çay while we waited.
Asking for Omar to be your guide in Diyarbakir is highly recommended! He speaks Turkish, Kurdish, English and French and is certainly a kindhearted person - everyone in the city seems to know him.
Unfortunately we didn't have a lot of time but we got to see quite a few of the city's great sights thanks to Omar. He definitely has the ability to quickly put together a great tour that works for you and your interests. If you wanted to learn more about the history around Diyarbakir and visit the smaller villages he could guide you there as well!
Visiting cities is not always just about the sights, it's also about the people you meet. After a tour with Omar you will not only be happy about all of the historic buildings and sights you've seen, you'll also have at least one new friend in Diyarbakir.
