Melrose House Hotel
Ranked #4 of 28 Hotels in Pamukkale
Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed April 2, 2013

Our one night stay at Melrose House was our first stop outside Istanbul. It definitely set the bar high for our future stays in small hotels in small towns as we drove through the country. The owners are a wonderful couple who would do anything for you. The meals are all cooked in the home kitchen and are excellent. We definitely recommend having a dinner here. The rooms are typical smallish rooms but are comfortable and clean. Our group had three rooms and none had complaints (although we were eyeing the room upstairs with the heart shaped bed).

This would probably be a wonderful place in the summer - there are lots of outdoor tables and the pool is currently being expanded.

I would like to add to the positive reviews that have been written for this hotel. We thought we had made meticulous plans for our holiday in Turkey last year, so I was horrified when we had an email from Ummu to ask where we were on the evening before we thought we were due to stay in Pamukkale! I explained my muddling of dates and she said not to worry, we could arrive the next day and they would make a plan. When we arrived, they laughed and said our only punishment was to be up-graded to a bigger room and to pay the difference (which was not a lot as this is a very affordable, value for money establishment!).
We also benefitted from their advice about visiting the site at sunrise, and thoroughly enjoyed the delicious meal served on the terrace, as well as dipping in the pool before supper!

We stayed for just a night but from the second we walked in, the host (not sure if he's an owner) was so attentive and caring. He was eager to help us with our plans and activities, and kept offering for us to use the pool and let him know if we needed anything. He didn't stop for a second, keeping himself busy around the reception and dining area- a good honest-hard-working man. The town and terraces are only a 15min walk away. So the location is set right outside the busy touristy area but much more peaceful and relaxing that way. We had dinner at the hotel which was delicious and the service by the family was excellent. Our round-bed room was comfortable with a nice balcony view from the top floor. The bathroom was a little small and outdated but everything was still a great value.

Stayed in the stone suite for a night while visiting Pamukkale. The hotel is a house with nicely decorated rooms. The stone suite had a round comfortable bed which was nicely decorated. There is not much in the town of Pamukkale and Melrose offers a great option to spend the night while visiting the area. Hotel is run by a family which is very nice and courteous.

Pros:
Friendly and helpful staff. Rooms are very clean and in very good condition, with AC and breakfast. The internet access was also very good and the only high speed access that I have experienced in Turkey.
There is also restaurant for your dinner if you don't want to head to town to eat, equally low quality food as anywhere in Pamukkale.

Cons:
Slightly away from Pamukkale centre, but this is only a 8min walk though. And the entrance to travertines is 2min from there.

Bottom line: Great option to stay a couple of nights while in Pamukkale.

We only stayed at this hotel for one night but it was probably the best hotel we stayed at our entire trip. The hotel was lovely. It was close to Pamukkale, the service was excellent, and the room was clean and cozy. The hotel was beautifully decorated with Turkish lamps and the workers did not try to push all sorts of touristy activities on us though they were helpful in giving us directions to Pamukkale and Hieropolis.

The hotel ıs overall of a hıgh standard and offers clean and spacıous rooms wıth very nıcely furnıshed common areas (lobby, terrace, restaurant) however several ıncıdents marred our experıence. We arrıved on the overnıght bus from Cappadocıa at around 6-6:30am and had prevıously been advısed by Mehmet that they would pıck us up from the bus statıon ıf we called upon arrıval however when we trıed callıng, they dıd not answer so our bus company were nıce enough to drop us off ourselves as they were droppıng off another group nearby. Luckıly someone was there to let us ın and as our room was not ready yet, we agreed to waıt untıl 10:30am-11am for the prevıous occupants to check out. We were just exhausted and were lookıng forward to a shower after the room was fınally made ready however quıckly realısed there was no hot water- ıt would have been nıce ıf they had prepared for the the volume of checkouts that mornıng and turned on both hot water tanks ınstead of just the one! We had to waıt a further hour before the hot water was made avaılable, and no apology was made.
Another ıncıdent was when we asked one of the teenage boys who worked for the famıly to book us a shuttle servıce pıck up to the aırport for our 8:25am flıght. We asked ıf we could pack our own breakfast as we'd be leavıng before ıt was ready but he ınsısted that he would make us sandwıches and assıst us wıth our bags when the pıck up arrıved. He also advısed us that the pıck up would be at 6:20am whıch dıd not sound rıght as the drıve ıs over 1 hour accordıng to Google- luckıly we double-checked wıth Mehmet who advısed us the correct tıme was actually 6:05am - a very bıg dıfference and potentıally a massıve mıstake! The boy also dıd not wake up and help wıth our check out and of course, was not there to gıve us the sandwıches as promısed. Such ıncıdents dıd not reflect a totally professıonal operatıon - whıch was a pıty as the restaurant served great food and the rooms were nıce and clean. The bathrooms could have done with a bıt of updating too.
A fınal tıp - ıt ıs a good ıdea to read extensıve revıews of Pammukale as a locatıon before consıderıng the need to book even just one nıgt's accommodatıon here as we were quıte caught out...

Room Tip: Go for a room on the top floor as ıt ıs quıeter.
