If you are looking for a clean and simple friendly hotel at the base of the travertines look no further. My husband and I stayed here for one night in early July. We do not care for large tour groups and wanted to stay away from the larger hotels that attract huge groups. We had travelled from Selcuk earlier and had done a small group tour of Hieropolis and Pamukkale with Hermosa Tours. We highly recommend Hermosa Tours. They have offices in both Kusadasi and Pamukkale. Ask for Anna to help you-she is absolutely wonderful. Instead of doing a day trip to Pamukkale from Selcuk or Pamukkale, we wanted to stay overnight in order to see the travertines at sunset and at sunrise without the hordes of tourists. If you do just the day trip (which is better than nothing if your time is extremely limited) be prepared to share your views with throngs of people. After our group tour we checked into our hotel. We asked for their nicest room with a view of the travertines. We got a very spacious room directly in front of the travertines and a lovely balcony. The air conditioning worked perfectly and the bathroom was very modern -even had a working hair dryer and nice shampoos etc. We were literallya 10 to 15 minute walk from the lower gate of the travertines. We went back around 5 and stayed till 8 p.m. We had planned on swimming in Cleopatra's Pool as our visit to them in the middle of the afternoon had been a complete turn off with wall to wall bodies. We never got there as we spent the entire time taking marvellous pictures in the travertines. After 5 p.m., people were definitely leaving to go home. While it was rare to have a pool all to yourself, it did happen. If you are patient and a good photographer and you you go at the end of the day, you can always manage to take photos of just you and your family. The photo ops are absolutely magnificent. At sunset, the photos are sublime. When we got back to our hotel we freshened up and had an absolutely wonderful dinner at Hal-Tur. Tables were set around the swimming pool.It was a very romantic atmosphere. Soft music was playing in the background. The food and the service were excellent. The owner does run a carpet shop, however, he is very good natured and is not pushy. The next morning we had an awesome private tour of Aphrodesias arranged by Hermosa Tours. Our guide's name was Tourgut and he was fantastic. He drove us personally to Kusadasi and put us on the SunExpress shuttle to Izmir. Hotel Hal-Tur also organizes tours, but I did not go with them as there was a language barrier in our e-mail correspondence. I needed special transport after my Aphrodesias tour to get back to Izmir airport and this was too difficult to arrange as I do not speak or write Turkish. Once we arrived at the hotel, there was no communication difficulty. We had a wonderful stay at Hal-Tur.
