What fun!! Felt like I was 12 again ...ducking thru tunnels, "exploring" hidden passageways...what a place for hide and seek! But of course this is quite a historic structure and a testimony to the will to survive. Can't imagine anything like it anywhere

Imagine a "city" --- rooms carved in rock with internal staircases connecting different levels and tunnels connecting the rooms on each level. Used my several hundred people both for storage of goods and for protection when threatened by passing armies. Must have taken decades for a dedicated people to create.

you cannot fathom that over a thousand years ago, people could have figured out how to live 8 stories under ground and have fresh air ventilation, security and so on. this is a must see historic site
