“Best mushroom shaped fairy chimneys”
Reviewed July 8, 2013

We had a really well educated and traveled local guide on a two day private tour. We didn't want to rush it stumbling from one valley to the next so we told him to take us to no more than 3-4 choice locations each day and this was the second most favorite on his list. Devrent valley was his top choice. He was spot on. A nice cluster of the mushroom shaped and really tall chimneys abound here. You can also go inside a 2-3 room dwelling and climb up onto a little hill right next to the chimneys by the parking lot to enjoy fantastic panoramic views. The chimney across the road has been converted to a gendarme station!

“Unique Fairy Chimneys”
Reviewed June 22, 2013

Paşabağ or Monks Valley has the best collection of fairy chimneys in Cappadocia. It is mid-way between Göreme and Avanos. The fairy chimneys here have the look like giant mushrooms, many of them double or triple-headed, sitting on broad pedestal shaped bases. These multiple headed fairy chimneys make Paşabağ unique.

The name Monk’s valley is perhaps because monks used to take refuge here. St Simeon is said to have lived as a hermit inside one of the 15-metre high fairy chimneys and descended only sometimes to get food and drink brought by his disciples. The locals prefer to call this valley ‘Paşabağ’, which translated is Governor’s vineyard. The fairy chimneys with prominent heads looks like the Paşas (Ottoman governers) with their huge turbans on.

For the best view of Monks Valley and its fairy chimneys, follow the cobblestone path up to the top of a ridge. It is quiet, peaceful up there, without the clamour of and the view from there is stunning.

Paşabağ may not be as as fascinating as Göreme or Zelve, but has a good charm of its own.

“overcrowded and tour bus heaven”
Reviewed June 19, 2013

We arrived by walking from the Goreme-Urgup Road, but didn't hang around for long. There are far too many tour buses and crowds, touts and tourists shops etc for there to be any hope of enjoyment. And anyway there are much better examples of the fairy chimney landscape feature in the neighbourhood - in particuar near Goreme, in the Love Valley and near the Church of the Evil Eye 10 minutes walk off the road to the Goreme Open-air Museum.

“amaizing!!! I do thank my good luck that helped me to visit the placem”
Reviewed June 1, 2013

The geological formation all around Cappadocia valley cannot be described!!! The only that a visitor wants to see all of them again and again. It is a geological miracle as it is the one of Grand Canyon in USA and Meteora in Greece.
