“good, but not that good!”
Reviewed September 1, 2009

Cappadocia is beautiful, the cave hotel is very unique and I recommend it.

the positive: nice big rooms, great Jacuzzi, great design for the room, absolutely impressive and very nice cozy bed.
Absolutely amazing view!

The negative: the service and customer service was very disappointing, the breakfast was just ok and there were tons of bees which made it almost impossible to eat.
room doesn't have a television for some reason.
also no wireless internet in the rooms, only in the reception which closed around 10:30-11:00.

generally, the place is great to visit, the hotel is quite expensive, not good and plesent service at all, beautiful view.
it's ok, but I believe there are better choices in Cappadocia.

Kapadokia was the most spectacular place we visited while in Turkey. Elkep Evi was part of what made spectacular. Yes, it is an honest to goodness cave but it did not lack any of the modern conveniences. We arrived at 3 in the morning and there was someone to welcome us to the hotel. We were very tired and of course we did not see anything out because it was dark but when we got up the next morning and look out of the window we were very pleasantly greeted but a gorgeous view from our window. We only ate breakfast at the hotel wish is served outside overlooking the the valley and the town. The food is fresh and the service is excellent. The staff and the reception was very pleasant and efficient. Ferda and the rest of the staff are there to help make your stay a delightful experience. Keep up the good work and best of luck to you guys!!!

Our amazing 4 days in Cappadocia had a lot to do with the gracious and beautiful cave hotel, Elkep Evi. Who would have thought a room carved out of a cave could be so comfortable, relaxing and well-appointed? Breakfast could not have been in a more beautiful location - a grassy rooftop garden with fruit and pine trees, roses, vines and a panoramic view of Urgup, the countryside and distant mountains. We never tired of the bountiful and healthy breakfast buffet of fruits, yogurt, cucumbers, tomatoes, olives, cheese, fresh-baked bread, spicy eggs, whole fruit preserves and more. The multi-course prix fixe dinners were delicious and reasonably priced. We found the staff accommodating and gracious, offering cookies, tea, lemonade, rides, and touring suggestions. All that and free internet wireless in the rooms and reception area - who could ask for more?

We were overjoyed when we walked into our room. Not knowing what to expect, but knowing the size of a typical hotel room to find not a cave room, but a cave suite was fantastic. It was decorated with class and had all the amenities and then some. The view from our "balcony" was fantastic and a short walk to stand on the "roof" had even more great views.

The staff and hosts were there to help us with every need and answer every question. They helped us arrange travel, tickets, and what sights/sites to see. They were always there with a smile and hello.

The breakfast was great and the dinners were always very good and the price was extremely fair. The view from the dining terrace was also a nice to look forward too.

The only problem for us was that all of the things we wanted to see were not in Urgup so we spent a lot of time waiting for the public bus or paying for a taxi.

If you need to stay in the Urgup area this is the place to stay.

If you're going to visit Cappadocia, you must stay at Elkep Evi. There are many hotels in Cappadocia, and many that claim they are cave hotels, but Elkep Evi is truly a cave hotel, and a beautiful one, at that. It's intimate and romantic, every spacious room is unique, with floors covered by Turkish rugs and kilims, and lovely terraces on which to relax and enjoy fabulous views. It's at the top of a hill, and is quiet and non-touristy. The town of Urgup is a short walk or taxi ride away. We enjoyed Turkish breakfasts in the garden with soothing music enhancing the views. An array of olives, cheese, tomatoes, cucumbers, delicious whole-fruit jams, Turkish bread and fresh-squeezed orange juice are brought to the table, plus there's a buffet of fruits, cereals and yogurt, and eggs are cooked to order. (Ask for menemen, Turkish scrambled eggs.) On cool evenings, a 4-course, prix-fixe dinner is served in the intimate dining room. The staff is friendly, professional, and most accommodating, and will arrange airport transfers and tour guides. There's so much to see in Cappadocia that at the end of your visit, you'll wish you had scheduled time just to enjoy the hotel. There's no more beautiful place to start and end your days in Cappadocia than Elkep Evi.

I just returned from a 4 night stay at Elkep Evi in Cappadocia. I had the best experience ever. I traveled with a group of 4, and the cave rooms were beautiful, well appointed, very nicely decorated and very clean. The breakfast was a delicious, traditional Turkish breakfast served out in the garden in a beautiful, quiet and romantic setting-- including a fabulous view over Urgup. Dinner was also excellent-- and we ended up eating most of our dinners at the hotel! The staff was extremely helpful, gracious, polite, knowledgeable, and more then accommodating. They were able to help us change our return flight, and even called France to reach the airline office!!! The also helped us with our hot air balloon reservation, suggestions for shops in the town, taxis, hiking, tours... anything we had a question about, they were able to give us a detailed and informative answer. The staff members had such a positive, helpful can-do attitude, and we really appreciated their hospitality. When we visited, the owners (a couple from the United States) happened to be there. There were also very knowledgeable and gave us extensive information about the area, provided us with ideas for things to do, and were able to point us in the right direction for a fabulous restaurant down the road (called Ziggy's). They were wonderful, friendly and helpful-- and really made a positive and everlasting impact on our stay. There are stairs at Elkep Evi, and the hotel does require a bit of walking, but if you're planning a visit to Cappadocia-- you should be planning on doing a bit of walking anyway! The general manager, Haydar, was very warm, friendly and helpful. He carried on a conversation with us at breakfast, and when he found out we wanted to do a morning hike he asked if we wanted him to take us on a trail!! This is a beautiful hotel, friendly staff, wonderful views, an excellent location... I could go on and on. Really, this is the only and best place to stay in all of Cappadocia.
