“An amazing hotel”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 25, 2014

The warmth and kindness from the owner and staff if Elkep Evi makes your stay there more akin to visiting friends than staying in a hotel. We stayed in Cappadoccia for 2 days in May and we arrived late. We were greeted by the owner with glasses if wine and offered a meal since all the restaurants were already closed. The next day he organized a tour with a taxi driver so we could pack in as many sights in our short time there. The morning of the second day he found us a great deal on a balloon tour and organized another day trip for us. All the while, his staff helped us track down our lost luggage that was cross crossing the globe. The property is amazing as is the breakfast, but nothing compares to the staff, who want you to fall in love with this region. Which you will.

The location is great. It's close to a winery, and a few restaurants. The rooms are clean and well put together. I cannot recommend Elkep Evi any more highly.

Great location, friendly and helpful staff, tastefully decorated comfortable rooms.. Great with kids but also can be preferable for a romantic getaway. You literally sleep in a cave. So quiet and peaceful.

Elkep Evi is a wonderful, genuine cave hotel in Ürgüp, in the heart of the Capadoccia, with wide views of the surrounding valleys and warm and welcoming staff. If you wake up early, you can see the air baloons on their voyage over the Capadoccia.
The hotel is carved into the cliffs that overlook Ürgüp, but is just a short walk down to town.
Our apartment, which slept four comfortably, was large (50m2) and decorated with antiques in the alcoves and nooks of the cave room, and came with big comfortable beds, embroidered sheets and fluffy towels - which showed the care and attention that has been paid to the rooms.
Outside the room, we had a patio to our own, with a day bed and a table overlooking the garden. The hotel had thoughtfully provided us with warm blankets, so that we could enjoy the patio in the cool April evenings. It was a lovely way to unwind at the end of the day.
Our host, Mr Haydar, a former tour guide, was very welcoming and full of good advice about how to explore the region, and very generous, as was Tuna, a lovely young man who looked after the hotel in the evenings and early mornings and studied tourism during the day. My boys became especially fond of Tuna during our five-day stay.
The breakfasts were delicious - fresh bread, local cakes and dried fruit, eggs, feta cheese, tomatoes and cucumbers, cereals, honey and yoghurt - catering to all tastes and huge appetites.
Best of all, we found Elkep Evi´s rates very reasonable compared with some of the cave hotels in the region.

Room Tip: The ground floor apartments are great for families with children, and come with a patio with a day b...

Wonderful experience. Beautiful view, very quiet, allows you to get the most from landscape, city is walking distance. Staff were always available and helpful, specially for the kids. I have asked to arrange all tours, walking visits, balloon - all was done in perfection.
I was at home. Definitely to come back!

Cave hotel near Urgup. I spent three nights there. Carved out of the cliff, my room was large, airy, quiet, clean. Nice bathroom. Cave had windows out to a veranda area where we could sit. Nice views. Good breakfast with views of valley below. Could see hot air balloons across the vista

I stayed here for three non-consecutive nights, coming back visiting another region after a positive experience on the first night. The hotel is small, with about a half-dozen suites. Each suite/room is separately carved out of the cliff face, and is perfectly isolated from the others.

The rooms are comfortably appointed, but are not luxurious. My suite had a bedroom area and a sitting/lounge area as well as a small patio. The bathroom was quite large and was separated from the bedroom area by virtue of a giant wall of rock.

The hotel is located about ten minute's walk from the town center. There are many restaurants and shops within easy walking distance.

The proprietor was very solicitous and spoke good English. Some of the desk staff were also very helpful but between their broken English and my broken Turkish it took a bit longer to organize some tours or get dining recommendations. Nevertheless, everything was done right.

Breakfast was included in my rate, and was excellent. They had a great spread of meats and cheeses, as well as fruits and vegetables (including many olives), and breads and jams. They also offered eggs made to order and hot drinks including Turkish coffee brewed on demand.

I stayed in this hotel for 2 nights. It was a different experience. The cave room was comfortable and peaceful. The rooms are cool though there is no AC fitted. There was no TV and hence a little boring since I travelled alone. There was a bed provided outside the room that was quite convenient for sitting in the evening. Wifi was available till outside the room. Breakfast comprised of few items. Lunch and dinner are not available.

Room Tip: Rooms away from the side road are quieter.
