Fresco Cave Suites and Mansions was the best hotel I stayed at in Turkey - and among the best anywhere in the world. It was wonderfully located - close to the picturesque town square, but not too close that one felt crowded, just adjacent to a hidden gem, a UNESCO world heritage site, which used to be part of the "old district" and isn't yet on the tourist trail, so is free to roam, and next to an old mosque (the only downside was the azaan at 4am that would wake us up, but it was musical enough to lull us back to sleep!)
The staff were super helpful, willing and very eager to please - right from giving us an early check-in, to arranging tours for us (and we double-checked their prices - very reasonable) without hustling us, and accomodating other small requests we had.
The owner, who speaks little English, was always around, but never intrusive. He appeared to be a very hands-on owner, keeping an eye on things, which may possibly be why the hotel works with clockwork precision.
The buffet breakfast was simply outstanding - from the freshly-squeezed orange juice, to the walnuts, other dried fruits, halvas, fresh array of local cheeses, the crisp salad leaves, the fresh-cut fruit, yummy cakes and croissants, every sort of olive you can imagine to the made-to-order eggs. Just thinking about it makes my mouth water - it was that good. The dining room staff was even more exceptional - always smiling as they buzzed around helping all the guests,
The entire hotel was spik and span, even for very picky guests like us.
The rooms were spacious, airy and tastefully done in local style. Ours overlooked the sit-out area that overlooked the park next to the mosque and it was peaceful and beautiful. Our kids enjoyed the huge hammock and with the flowers in full bloom, that place was picture-perfect.
Our room also had a huge bathroom, with a separate shower area and a tub with a jacuzzi. We were planning to go to the local Turkish hamam, but after reading the reviews (and more importantly, after walking down to check it out ourselves) we chose to have our own family hamam bath in that cave-style bathroom! It was totally unforgettable!
I'm so glad my 12-year old found this hotel for us to stay at, and we changed our reservations at the last minute. Thank you Fresco, for making Urugup special for us!!
