Our guide took us here for lunch on our first day there. Food was good and set in a fairly traditional environment. No real frills but it was a nice change of pace.

“What a treasure!”
Reviewed September 18, 2012 via mobile

We had trekked about 6k as part of a longer walk and had booked for lunch. We arrived rather hot, dusty and dishevelled but we're given a courteous welcome and after a quick wash up sat and enjoyed a most delicious lunch. I am vegetarian and the young owner joked with us over what I could eat - which turned out to be most of it! Everything was freshly cooked and presented so well. Such a nice atmosphere. It set us up well for the last 6k of our walk. Would love to go back.

“One of our favorite meals in Turkey--”
Reviewed September 10, 2012

I first read about Aravan Evi in a Conde Nast Traveler article written in 2010. (The author of that article also deemed it one of her favorite meals in Turkey.) It is not a typical restaurant: Because things are prepared fresh every day, you need to call and make a reservation for the standard set menu. It is a small restaurant set inside a picturesque boutique hotel, and you might not dine alongside anyone else while you're there, depending on when small groups are scheduled that day. It's not a drop-in kind of place; it's a destination, and for good reason.

This is Anatolian cuisine at its finest. I had several similar meals during my stay in Cappadocia, and this was far and away the best. The stuffed grapeleaves were a standout, as well as the beans and the main meat stew served with bulgar. Everything was so flavorful and fresh. And the homemade halvah sweetened with grape molasses is one of the best things I've ever tried. It was the only time I encountered desserts like that during my visit to Turkey.

This isn't a bustling restaurant. You go to Aravan Evi in order to partake in a meal lovingly prepared by the mother of Okan, the young proprietor who doubles as a server during the meal. He and his family represent the very best of Turkish hospitality, and we loved getting the chance to talk to him about the family business during our meal. He is so knowledgeable about the preparation of the food, the cultivation of the various ingredients, the history of the region, and anything else you might want to know about life in Cappadocia. Don't miss a chance to enjoy a meal at Aravan Evi during your visit to Cappadocia. The food is as special as the people who prepare it.

“Home cooking with a heart”
Reviewed September 2, 2012 via mobile

1. For the uninitiated, Turkish food is kebab and kebab. But at Aravan evi, you can discuss the menu that is being served to be as close to a home style cooking of urgup family or what you would feel like having for the night.

2. Our first dinner was a set menu of four course meal prepared by the mother. It consist if soup, starters, main courses and desserts. Not only was the dishes delicious, they were all prepared with a lot of care and I am not surprised with a lot of sincerity and warm welcome as well. I have visited many restaurants in istanbul and surrounding areas but the flavours tasted here is exquisite and completely comforting.

2. The second night, I requested that we have a 3 course of meal of salads, grilled chicken and fruits. Again, we felt that it was excellently executed and served well though very simple but it is according to what we asked for and more.

3. We had breakfast as well and as previously experienced, it was comfortingly pleasing.
