Les Maisons de Cappadoce

We stayed in Studio Kaya and it was amazing. Not only charming of course, (amazingly so!!!) but you had the feeling you were not staying in a hotel but your private house, among other houses where other private people lived. The staff was more than attentive and gave us great advice on how to spend our time there, brought us breakfast in a basket and fresh bread every morning. We ate breakfast every morning on the patio watching the balloons take off and overlooking the Pigeon Valley. I think Cappadokia can get very touristy and you can put yourself in a place where all you see are other tourists. But in Uchisar, in a cave house of Les Maisons d Cappadoce, you'll feel like a local person. But one with friends. And you can walk from there to various restaurant choices or else bring food back to your own patio.
Also make you ask for Mustafa to be your guide for a hike in the Rose Valley. It was a highlight of our two weeks in Turkey. He runs the rug shop next door to Les Maisons's offices but he is maybe the one person in Turkey who will not try to sell you a rug. He's VERY knowledgeable and kind and good fun and his English is excellent.

We stayed two nights, 3 adults, in a lovely, well designed, three bedroom "apartment", one of about 18 homes, Jacques, the owner, and a French architect has lovely hewn out of the side of a cliff in Uchisar. A breakfast basket was delivered each night, with fruit, yogurt, cheese, olives, jams, eggs and bisquits, and fresh bread was delivered each morning. These folks help with reservations, transportation, expert guides. Cappadoche is magical and Les Maisons is part of the magic.

Located in the land of fairy chimneys, Les Maisons de Cappadoce is a gracious collection of Harvard-architect remodeled homes that has become its own neighborhood. We two stayed in La Studio Forge. We arrived there after two long flights and a long layover with an hour’s drive from Kayseri, the nearest airport. We were transported with joy to be anywhere, much less in our own home. We walked in to the open yet snug living room with its fire already laid in the fireplace and French doors opening out onto a sunny balcony with an inviting table for breakfast, bright red geraniums added in the foreground and, just beyond our very own fairy chimney. The bedroom was down the hall to the right with its closet, kilims, and folk art collection. The bathroom had its share of art plus counter space and a wonderful shower with a high tiled wall for privacy. The kitchen was well stocked. Fresh makin’s for breakfast (eggs, preserves, snacks, fruits) appeared in a basket each evening and, every morning, we heard a rustle at the door when the bakery-fresh bread was hung, warm, on the door. Our hosts, Sevim and Jacques, were marvelously hospitable and full of willingness to make connections, arrange tours, recommend the best place to make purchases and nearby places to feast. The take-off point for balloon rides was so close that we could see them every morning and hear their hot air whoosh as they ascended and descended.

As we headed out for our daily adventures, we loved walking on the “neighborhood” street, past the collection of ducks and kittens at the intersection nearby and up the hill to the Uçisar town center. The town itself is one of the attractions. It has just the right number of restaurants and shops along with its own castle and quick access to the more metropolitan Ürgüp as well as roads that head to every historic, scenic valley, town, and underground city.

Les Maisons de Cappadoce was one of the most comfortable, well-placed, elegantly designed, and artful B&Bs in which we have ever stayed—and that is going some.

I stayed at Les Maison de Cappadoce (Maison des Chevres) with four of my friends during my recent trip to Cappadocia. It was my first visit to this very unique and beautiful location and it was probably my favorite portion of my visit to Turkey. The accommodations are each very unique, beautifully designed & decorated, rustic, and so intertwined with it's natural setting that you truly feel like you're experiencing (an albeit luxurious version of) "cave house" living. Jaques and Cetin took wonderful care of us, as did the sweet housemaids who delivered our daily breakfast basket of fresh cheeses, fruits, breads, etc.

The staff also partners with the best local businesses and services to organize any tours, excursions, etc that interest you. Mustafa, our fearless guide and local rug-store owner, was absolutely charming and took us on an unforgettable hike through the Pigeon Valley and Fairy Chimneys. Cetin was a dear and made sure that our needs were always met - he even hand-prepared a lovely private dinner for us on the terrace - SO DELICIOUS! The staff gave us honest and excellent recommendations on what to see and what to skip - they were spot-on every time. We truly felt like we were discovering uncharted ground as we explored areas that were void of the mass tourist groups. And above all, we felt like we built friendships with the locals and staff (sealed with a little raki and live music).

If you're seeking a genuine, non-commercial, Cappadocia experience, definitely give these guys a try.

Uchisar is a beautiful and charming village in the heart of Cappadocia, and Les Maisons de Cappadoce perfectly embodies all of the wonders of the region. Each suite/studio is a cave house meticulously restored by Jacque, a French architect and the hotel's hospitable proprietor. My husband and I were extremely impressed with how Jacque's restorations fully respect the integrity of the Cappadocian landscape while offering a complete array of modern amenities. We visited while on our honeymoon and stayed in the "Studio Les Chevres." It was stunning -- outfitted in all white, with marble floors and bathroom. The studio included a kitchen, bedroom, and bathroom. A fireplace and candles added an aura of romance to the bedroom. Our beautifully landscaped terrace (which afforded more privacy than some of the other units) looked out over the Pigeon Valley (a spectacular view, especially at dusk!), and it was the perfect place to relax with a glass of wine and a book. Each afternoon, the staff delivered a basket of breakfast goodies for the next morning (eggs, jams, fruit, milk, juice, etc.), and then each morning, a fresh loaf of bread was hanging on our studio door when we woke up. Who could ask for anything more?! The staff -- and Jacque in particular -- were delightful. Our stay included a dinner in Les Maisons' new (though still partially under construction) restaurant, where we dined with another young couple staying at Les Maisons. The dinner was delicious (my husbands' favorite meal during our entire stay in Turkey!), and Jacque was a charming host. There is also a lovely restaurant just up the road from Les Maisons -- Elai Restaurant -- where we had a fabulous dinner as well. This is really a special place, and I feel fortunate to have had the opportunity to stay here. Cappadocia and Les Maisons were a highlight of our honeymoon travels through Turkey and Greece -- we would return in a heartbeat!!

My wife and I have been international travellers for 30 years and have stayed at many special properties...Les Maison de Cappadoce is definately one of our most memorable experiences.
We are happy that we decided to stay in Uchisar out of all the other villages in Cappadocia as it is by far the most magical village in the area.
We were also very pleased to realize that Jacques's property has the best setting of all the hotels in the area. We stayed in the Kaya Maison...and we will never forget the breath taking view from our patio.
Jacques is a very talented and passionate designer which is reflected in every detail of his rooms. Well done Jacques! Thank you for the memory.
