“Beautiful restaurant, horrible food”
Reviewed October 22, 2012

This restaurant is gorgeous and elegant inside. Great soft lighting, soft cave walls, antique pieces, nice music, really beautiful setting. Wonderful location right near the Argos Cave hotel and Cappadocia Cave hotels. That's where the greatness ends. The food is just downright bad and considering the quality, overpriced as well. We ordered the beef kabob which was tough, underseasoned and barely edible. As for the prawns paella - paella was bland and the "prawns" looked like bad small frozen shrimp that had been stuffed into prawn heads for appearance. The mezzes were not terribly impressive but not as offensive as the other entrees. Go for a drink before dinner!

“Best restaurant in town”
Reviewed October 17, 2012

For our third and last night in Uchisar we went to Elai. It was much better than the other restaurants that we had visited in Uchisar. It was clear that someone in the kitchen was attempting some serious cooking rather than running the basic catering that we had found so often before in Turkey. The dining room was smart and spacious, and we enjoyed an unhurried meal.

“Overrated and miserable experience”
Reviewed October 2, 2012

We dined here last week and were treated like we were something the dog had brought in. We were placed virtually in the kitchen.
Despite having a menu in English no one seemed able or interested despite asking several times to explain what the selection of mezze consisted of. Not an unreasonable request?
My son and husband's food was fine. Mine was meanly portioned and deeply average. Not the great culinary experience we had been lead to believe. The mineral water wasn't even cold and no suggestion of an ice bucket was forth coming.
Anywhere outside this area this restaurant wouldn't hack it. We are foodies and have eaten in some of the best restaurants and indeed have eaten in many Turkish restaurants that are far better than this.
When we asked for the service to be removed from the bill there was no interest in why and no apology for the miserable experience we had had.
On the plus side, the room is beautiful if you're not sitting in the corridor by the kitchen. The free table by the view was still free by the time we left the restaurant.
I cannot recommend this place at all.

“Very nice meal, great atmosphere”
Reviewed September 30, 2012

A quaint, romantic space, only 10 or so tables with beautiful design and antiques. Small staff and great food with Turkish influence. The samosas and beef kebab were scrumptious! I also recommend drinking the Turkish wine, we are fans.

“We kept coming back”
Reviewed September 30, 2012

We very much enjoyed this restaurant and ended up coming 3 times during our recent stay. There were multiple vegetarian options, the service was good, the atmosphere was friendly and the prices were't crazy. It was the restaurant we chose for our last night out of 10 in Uchisar after trying many others.
